C10 Show Truck Project: More Blocking and Starting Body Work on the Hood

Made another lap around blocking and filling then primed again. Started working the hood and tested some Kitty Hair Fiberglass Reinforced Body Filler. #c10, #bodywork, #chevy

Are you planning on pulling the rest of the panels and doors off to prep and paint? I’m doing a frame off resto on my c10 and didn’t know if it is better to prep and shoot individual body parts and assemble later to to have them on first.

I will be pulling everything apart and painting each piece individually. It makes a cleaner job with no masking marks in the jambs and such. Just have to make sure everything will go back together and line up correctly.

I just welded up 7 holes on my firewall today with my cheap harborfreight welder. I think I need to invest in some kitty hair. Can I apply direct to bare metal?

Yes. Sand/grind with 40 or 80 grit then apply kitty hair to the bare metal. After it has dried completely sand with 80 grit before applying regular body filler. This stuff is tough to sand. There’s no finessing it like you do regular filler. Just apply it then grind or sand it off until it’s slightly below what you expect the final filler to be. You don’t really want it to show through the regular filler once the regular filler is sanded flat. It usually has some small pinholes when exposed. Also, pull up the tech sheet for it online. That will give you a better idea of what to expect.
