Update: The first question in the C2 Proficiency speaking paper is now "Where do you live?" rather than "Where are you from?" - a small but significant change. My online preparation courses: ttp-exam-academy-ben.thinkific.com/

Hello Ben. Thank you very much indeed for sharing so amazing an interview regarding the Cambidge C2 speaking component. I am reading Tess of The D'urbervilles by Thomas Hardy and I found a saying: "When there is a will, there is a way", so when Simon concluded his speech almost at the end of the video, he used exactly the same expression. And that made me reflect on the importance of reading for pleasure. Stay safe!

Indeed... reading is important to reinforce vocabulary!

I think that besides the fact that Patrick seems charismatic, he laughs at himself to create a comfortable atmosphere and his brain doesn't go blank. I mean ideas come to him clearly when he's not reeling from nerves.

I noticed a lot of times Simon was rushing and competing to get his thoughts in and pressuring himself to find the words- making him stutter. A better strategy might have been to allow his partner to speak; listening would have generated some ideas and thoughts that he could be formulating in his head while he's waiting. I think it would have strengthened his argument.

Hey Ben. Would you happen to know about the Cambridge English Qualifications Digital from February 2024? The best features are faster results and more flexibility.
@Carolina-rd3gh Жыл бұрын
I thought Patrik really took advantage of Part 1 even though it was a bit too long. Simon did really well in Part 2 in my opinion, though both should have answered the extra task more clearly. I also think wasting time speculating about the visuals of each picture and mentioning “picture 1” is a bit amateur and they should focus on speculating about what the photos represent abstractly and more generally instead of being so tied to the visuals (my Cambridge teacher’s recommendation). In Part 3, Simon did better when asked the follow up question and Patrik was a bit more relaxed in the development question.

I feel foolish and like an idiot in comparison with these lads. Top notch speakers. I reckon the requirements to pass this exam cross the boundary of native speaker level, they're higher imo. I successfully(dunno why, a mystery and an utter miracle) sat for C2 Trinity(cos I'm nowhere near that outcome, I'm around C1 and not above) and I gather it's miles easier compared to C2 Cambridge. Trinity's duration is 25 mins(speaking and listening) at odds with Cambridge which lasts beyond 1h. I repeat, I'm countrymiles behind these 2 pals in terms of speaking resources and capabilities. Their lexicoon is stately and mesmerizing, they sound like educated and instructed natives, no doubt they're gonna pass the test easily. I'll never reach, dedication and pushing powerfully. A friend of mine, who is so enormously gifted in english(learning everything by herself and only attending lessons at university), has the qualities and capacities to get awarded a C2 Cambridge with grade A practicing a bit as a self taught and a little surrounded by qualified teachers from my pov, but I don't have the minerals to be so high-located in regards to the language. Nowadays, this girl is already better than me of course.
@tothepointenglishwithben.2 жыл бұрын
Yes, they have a good level of spoken English. But they also prepared extremely well for the exam (in my TTP Exam Academy, of course 😉) As you mentioned, it's all about dedication!

@@tothepointenglishwithben. immense thanks for your time and patience spent to reply to my super long message. It was viable for me sharing my pov and exposing my consideration about the content of the video. Your Academy is so valient and these english speakers' level is extremely hefty and humogously imponent. I wish I was level with them, I'll put my biggest effort and hard work to at least cut the gap with them conscious that it's gonna be so tricky and an everest to clamber and not cos I ain't prepared enough, but due to the fact that they're super super brillant and excellent. Congrats to you and your staff for the preparation provided to your students and fot taking care of them. I'd also like to underline that I watch a good multitude of your videos and I discover an handful of new words, idioms and expressions. U're an highly qualified, but also very methodical teacher. Sorry for the lenght of the message, which sounds like a papyrus or an imposing letter, I'm passionate when it comes to writing, also due to practice purposes, it's a very useful tool and a monumental instrument for me :)

it's so clear that you're only trying to impress. Using all this fancy words and trying to sound smart with every word you use, all the while unnecessarily and insincerely licking the boots of people you pretend to consider "brilliant", makes you look ridiculous, pretentious and immature. All your "admiration" for this "lads" was meant to get people to praise you back - clearly not authentic. You are the definition of fishing for compliments, you paradoxically think of yourself as greater than others but at the same time feel like you are profoundly inferior, and thus all your craving for validation and use of trickery. That's a narcissistic trait, just so you know, and it permeates like half of your "papyrus"... Just be honest with yourself, man, those people are not better than you (especially the one that stutters every 5 seconds), and you know it too. Appreciate them as they really are, and same with you... That "gifted girl" in all probability is not better than you, it's you that projects your narcissistic insecurities onto her and everyone around you. Let me tell you a story, during high-school all my classmates where basically at the same level, with me and another two boys slightly (or sometimes considerably) outperforming all the others. You know why? You say genius? No, one of them routinely watched dozens of anime series for long periods of time, in English, the other's attended English private lessons since he was a little kid and I've read more books (in English) about permaculture and gardening than everyone else in my class. Coincidence? I don't think so. Anyway, So yeah, the genius myth doesn't apply to 99,9% of the population. (and this is not to say that everyone is equally intelligent or talented, that matters too, but not as much as you seem to think)... All in all, you are intellectually and verbally capable, your real problem being mostly psychological (and yeah, that makes you sound pretentious and distorts your writing), so if you overcome that you'll be on your way to become even better (on every aspect of life) than that "genius" girl. Keep up the good work.
