Me too. The hood was not at all in the way. No need to remove it. My buddy calls it an Oyster Shell.

As a Mechanical Engineer myself, I am very impressed by your skills and in depth knowledge of this wonderful engine. I recently purchased a '95 White Corvette; based LT1 Engine with the 6 speed ZF S6-40 Tranny. Tranny does have some issues, mainly with the synchros(1st and 3rd are kind of rough). Thank you for sharing this, and looking forward to more Corvette C4 videos!

Thanks Javier, I really like this C4. I've gone so many years without being exposed to them. Just been in the impala SS world for so long. I want to buy a C4 for myself.

Carl it's called a C beam. I remove flywheel and clutch assembly and the wiper motor when removing the engine from a C4. Maybe a bit overkill, it really makes it easy when working alone. Excellent video I'm looking forward to the rest.

Thanks! I was hoping to get input and tips. I should have asked you ahead of pulling the motor. Removing the clutch and flywheel next time. Check.

Some update info about the crank balance and flywheel. Chris at Clinton machine found the crank was out of balance at the front and rear by not a lot but if I remember right 20 to 30 grams. Also the flywheel was not exactly neutral either. It needed some metal removed about 20 grams too. The pressure plate is going to be checked too. I'll let everyone know.

How difficult is it to get at the driver's side engine mount? I might have to replace mine and have seen no other videos about that. Thanks.
@EllweinEngines4 ай бұрын
humm. I think (from memory) that from under the car and with the headers removed that it there is enough access to work or swap the motor mount. I don't have a corvette in the shop right now so.....I could be wrong.

Do you have a opinion on the windage tray? I'm literally outside building my LT1. I'm asking because my short block came without the 3 stud main cap bolts to install the stock windage tray. I am using the stock oil pan. This has stopped my progress today. Should I use the main cap studs off the previous LT1 engine I removed from my car? And loosen them all and re-torque down to spec with the LT1 main cap studs installed where I need them? I know I can run it without the tray, I know windage can rob horsepower, but that is what concerned me - it's that it can cause air in the crankcase. I have alot of money in these parts and this build. I need a well experienced LT1 builder, like yours, and your opinion please. My other question is: how can I get a socket over the deep studs from the main caps to torque down? I have them removed off the old engine, but I had to remove them with a wrench.
@EllweinEngines3 жыл бұрын
Definitely you do need the windage tray. Just like you mention if you do not have the stock tray then you'll have air/oil mix. Yes you can take the stock bolts and change them out one by one. 77 ft-lb I do believe. You can get a "crows-foot" for the long windage bolts. It's worth the time and effort.

Check to see if the flywheel is balanced properly. That can create a wobble-shake 3k and above.
@EllweinEngines3 жыл бұрын
Gotcha. Flywheel is at the machine shop too and Chris at Clinton Machine is on top of it. Chris mentioned pressure plate too.

So what was the cause of the vibration around 3,000 and up?
@EllweinEngines2 жыл бұрын
So far I cannot rule out that it was the clutch or something in the driveline. We know for certain that the engine is smooth. So when I put the engine back in and everything and get a road test if it is rumbling again at 3000 and up then I know it’s driveline. Check back for future updates because I have not put the motor back and I don’t really have time until about two weeks from now
@CaseTheCorvetteMan2 жыл бұрын
@@EllweinEngines cheers for the response mate :) I have a 93 Callaway Supernatural that has a very slight vibration at about 3,000rpm, happens whether sitting still with clutch in or driving around. I swapped out the harmonic balancer the other day and it is a touch smoother, but i can still feel it slightly there.
@EllweinEngines2 жыл бұрын
@@CaseTheCorvetteMan we will get to the bottom of it. Has your Supernatural always been that way? I shouldn't be the engine because they made a really high quality hot rod back in the day.

@@EllweinEngines yeah since i've had it it has, although it was masked a bit by a lot of other very little problems that i've been working through. Overall it is in great shape, mostly just a lot of age related maintenance that was overdue when i got it.

Ever find the issue?
@EllweinEngines4 ай бұрын
Yes. the rumble was exactly what I had guessed. the engine rotating assembly was not balanced very well. The rebalance was performed and then all smooth. the car drives very well now. the owner is enjoying the car, (has been for a few years now). Thanks for asking and watching.
@wreckanchor3 жыл бұрын
Let us know what you find the "rumble" to be.
@EllweinEngines3 жыл бұрын
will do. Right now I think it will end up being clutch or driveshaft and not the rotating assembly. But we will find out.
