First and only time in 15 years of watching YT videos that I have seen someone actually use the FSM. 👏👍 (factory service manual) So many mistakes can be avoided using the proper reference materials, right down to the fluid type and quantity. Props for demonstrating that here. Also, I knew when you opened the drawer to your sockets and ratchets that you are my people. 😎 VERY well done tutorial start to finish. Thank you, from one lifelong car guy to another. 🍺 ✌

Tech at the gm dealer I go to said you have to turn the car in, have it in gear, and get it up to temperature. Then check the trans fluid level. Have you ever heard that?
@southfloridagearheads3 жыл бұрын
I highly doubt they do that at the dealer. that would require them to do the fluid change, take it off the lift, drive it around until its up to temp, put it back on the lift and check the level again. I went based off the book and what volume it lists. was pretty much spot on so I cant see it changing much with temperature. I also did not see that mentioned in the service manual.
@sflherc3 жыл бұрын
The tech was probably talking about the automatic transmission. Manuals don't require to be up to temp after a trans fluid change

@@southfloridagearheads in case its stuck you won't leave it empty - of course this point is moot if you have a spare vehicle
@southfloridagearheads3 жыл бұрын
@@rusilver2 Interesting I had not considered that. I always leave the fill plug in when I remove the drain in order to maintain a seal and allow the fluid to drain slower. Then I can pull the fill plug once I have everything setup and allow it to drain faster. Maybe best practice would be to just crack the plugs loose first to make sure they are not stuck. Thanks for sharing

What prompted the change to Amsoil fluids? Just curious, I'm about to flush and refill mine.

hey do you have to run the car in 2nd gear for a min thats what i was told to do on a manual c6.after a diff and tranny fluid change.

@lag17913 жыл бұрын
So i skipped around a liitle toward the end so sorry if you mentioned it and i missed it but my manual states that if your diff has a cooler, like my C6Z06 does, than after filling you are supposed to start the car and drive with rear wheels up in the air, 10 MPH in 2nd gear for 1min. then shut off car and top off fliud. Or just drive around a bit and next time you have it up in the air top it off.
@lag17913 жыл бұрын
oh and i'm a redline fanboy, lol!
@southfloridagearheads3 жыл бұрын
Interesting I did not see that in the procedure. could you share where this was mentioned. I plan to put it back on the lift to recheck the trans leak I had so I will probably check both the levels while I am there. The rear diff also took almost 3 full quarts so I would imagine the level should be fine. If it only took 2.5 or something I maybe would expect to need a top up.
@lag17913 жыл бұрын
@@southfloridagearheads it was in my 2007 shop manual. Maybe there was a design change. When I did mine it didn't take a full 3 quarts when I 1st filled it.
@southfloridagearheads3 жыл бұрын
@@lag1791 could be, this is an 2009. I think the trans, rear and axles are different in the 08+ cars. Im sure its still a good idea to check after a few miles to make sure it didnt drop after circulating.
