I remember playing this game for hours on the Commodore 64 when I was younger. It was such a wonderful game, and it felt epic because the characters were small on a large playing field (most games drew the characters much larger on screen). I also liked the pace because the character was always moving, and at a reasonably quick pace.

Took me FOREVER to find this again. All I remembered about it (besides how much fun I had) was that it used isometric graphics and had a stage select (so not much to go by). Fortunately, I found a list of platformer games for C64 and managed to spot it among them. I played this a whole lot as a kid but could never complete the game because there was corrupt data on the disk causing one of the levels to freeze in the same place every time.

So weird I had the exact same experience! I could never remember the name or what the exact details were. I sorta recall it freezing as well. I do recall our game being a copy so perhaps it has some protection?

took a trip down memory lane here. played the absolute crap out of this game as a ten year old but could never beat it. it's amazing how much I remember when watching it back 35 years later. awesome video. thank you!

Great memories. This was a charming little game with a lot of playtime through the number and length of levels. Fun and simple times. Much later, I made a DnD dungeon based off the Realm of Impossibility

I totally remember playing this on my Atari 400! I wore out several joysticks because it seemed like the diagonal movement was SO slow compared to the horizontal movement! Thanks for the game play...it was good to see some of those levels again!

Thanks for the video! Great trip back down memory lane. Lots of hours spent trying to get through those levels.

I've only read about this one. Specifically, the June 1984 issue of Computer Games, where it was Computer Game of the Month under its original title of Zombies! The same issue has a full-page ad for the game under the same title. Both the ad and the review say that the game only has seven dungeons, though, not the eleven seen here.

I finally found this game. I remember playing it as a child and could never remember the exact details. Isometric Commodore 64 game google search gave me a list that I had to go through before noticing it. For the longest time I thought it was Crystal Castles. I did not think I would ever find it again. I can rest easy now!

same. I had so many C64 games. it's crazy how much I remember from just screenshots of the games that came and went through my childhood. love this retro stuff.

I never played this... it looks like fun. I'm impressed by the seemlingly endless amount of screens that someone designed to play through. And all those maps fit in that small RAM eh?

I like the graphical style of this game, even though it's blocky even for it's era. Love the layered look of the level design in Phlegethon in particular.

I know this is pretty dead thread, but even this was not an EA game. It was originally Zombies by Bram software. EA bought them out, and re-released Zombies as Realm of Impossibility, with extra maps and easier game play. Cheers! BTW.. you are right, this was back when EA actually made good games.

I was 12 when I first played this, and try as I might, I never beat more than one board. To me, this was one of the hardest video games ever made up till that time. Kids today have no idea how easy they have it :) Also when I tell some folks today that there was a time when EA (EOA) made fantastic games and were a really good company, they just laugh... Ahhh... Memories.

+D3mang3l Back in the day when they pretty much wrote a manual, a reference card, dressed up the box a bit and tucked the medium in a pocket. Shortly before they changed their logo, they became the software mill we know today that grinds up developers and burns tons of cash to make deadlines. But, I still remember the days when they were a publisher and not a mill.
