There is no need to weld in a piece once the cut is made for those who don't have a welder.....the mount is the strongest steel on the entire truck and still capable to hold up the body. It does look nice though if you can weld...go for it.

Nice work! What type of plasma cutter and welder did you use?

In this video, I used this plasma cutter: amzn.to/3SzQqnw and just a regular flux core welder from Harbor Freight

I would of done a more aggressive cut and made the cover go more slanted towards the bolt. Just to get even more clearance. Surprised you didnt do that

Hello KFlo...great video...I'm putting a 285/75/16 with 1.5 inch spacer on my factory wheels on my third gen which has Rough Country leveling struts....do you feel like I will need to attempt this chop....I think my tire size in inches is 32.8....thanks
@KFloTacoma4 жыл бұрын
Yea, I think you're going to have to. You may be able to get away without it if you don't take it off road. I really think it will still rub a bit though
@Sam-lf6xu3 жыл бұрын
I've seen guys only chop back to front of the cab mount bolt so they can weld the bottom as well. Your way looks like it gives more clearance though.

Nice video 👌🏻 I have a question, right now I have a 3inch lift in the front and have 285/70/17 on stock rims with a wheel spacer of 1.25 inch and I don’t rub on the Mount at all even if I go off-roading.... but I’m going to but kings 2.5 with a 2.5 inch lift in the front and also a upper control arm. My question is will I rub with the kings set up ?
@KFloTacoma4 жыл бұрын
According to my past research, long travel will require the CMC. Good luck!

Does this void the frame warranty? I really need to do the cab mount chop on my Tacoma. That's the only thing my tires rub on.

Technically it does :-(

I just got the 3 inch kit from rough country, my wheels are 17x9 with -6 offset. Thinking about running 275/70/17 do you think I will have to do this?

I would recommend the CMC if you're planning on doing some off roading

What happens if you don't do the welding part?
@KFloTacoma3 жыл бұрын
Many people do that - it's your call at the end of the day. The purpose of that plate is a crash protection gusset so that the tire doesn't end up in the cabin during a crash

Y beat the pinch weld in and not out
@TheBpotsy3 жыл бұрын
You should’ve re seam sealed the pinch weld that you sliced open and exposed raw metal too nit just paint over it. Otherwise informative 👍🏼

Pretty rough looking weld..maybe you should've hired a welder..also you might think about disconnecting the battery before welding.
