Solidly the best tutorial on the web for the BMC on Tacoma. Well done! I just wonder WTF Toyota was thinking in making the Tacoma so big and making it so the tire size can’t be expanded without a chassis chop. It’s as if they intentionally abandoned their most dedicated customers. I also wonder if the body mount could be reshaped with an air hammer - haven’t tried, but wonder if it’s a possible alternate solution.
@TotalChaosFabrication3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the support! We definitely wouldn't want to take the risk using an air hammer. Too much potential damage for a result that could be safely achieved with a few smaller cuts and welding the plate on.

I just called 2 different 4x4 shops in Nashville. One quoted $350. The other $400. No thank you! Just ordered a flux welder from Harbor Freight for $160($40 discount) It normally runs $199. It can weld up to 3/16" thick steel and has pretty good reviews. Long story short.... I'll do it myself for nearly half the price and have a welder for future projects. Win win!
@topgunne12 Жыл бұрын
Just to make this easy, ground closest to the weld plate. In most cases, you can grind off to bare metal on the other side of the body mount and ground there.

I have a question for you. Wouldn't it be a lot cleaner and better if you just remove the inner fender well to cut the seam and then reinstall the inner fender well back? That way it looks like nothing was cut?
@jeffroberts227911 ай бұрын
I just pulled it back and knocked seam over and put liner back. I did have to heat the liner to kinda flatten it a little where seam made it stick out.

Great job!!! 👍👍👍 I will have a BMC done to my 2012 TOYOTA 4RUNNER LIMITED so I can be able to run 33x12.50 tires with no problem!!! They will go on a set of FUEL 20X10 rims with a -19 offset with a PRO COMP 3" front and 2" back lift leveling kit!!! In the process I will have them also cut the front fender well rubber plastics!!! Great video it was very informative and the job was well done!!!👌👌👌 How much would be a reasonable price to have done what I just mentioned to my TOYOTA 4RUNNER??? Thank you!!!

Personally I wouldn't use stick, but if its the only option; 3/32" ER7018 around 70 amps, move quickly and stitch it. The "stitching" shown in the video isn't actual stitching. Make 1-1.5" stitches jumping around from side to side similarly to how you tighten lug nuts or tune a drum. Source: am a certified welder

@BainBoyd4 жыл бұрын
Trimming anything on your vehicle with less than a 32 inch tire is not at all reasonable on these trucks/SUVs. Think of a small lift, maybe just a 25 dollar spacer "leveling lift", maybe just 1.5-2.5 inches. I'm running a 3 inch leveling kit in front on a 2007 4runner and love it, with bigger tires, too

I am running a 2 inch lift and 33 inch tires, went to wind rock off roading and I could feel the need for larger tires to clear stuff. if you just want to bro-doze about the mall parking lots do whatever you want, put rubber bands on it, squat it, leave it stock, doesn't matter as long as it rolls down the road and makes you happy man. but for off roading stuff like this is godsend.
