i was really bummed i couldn't find a good review on this model, i started looking into it a couple of days ago to use as a travel bag, i remember rewatching your review on the cabin zero adv pro yesterday and thinking how great it would be if you had a similar review for this model as well, and now only a day later, you do!! I just pulled the trigger, can't argue with the universe! thanks for the review!

I dont hear about cabin zero as a brand as much online, so it is great to see a detailed review on one. I am looking for a new smaller OBT carry on bag and this may have to make the shortlist. Good review, and your comment on the laptop bag is on point. Too often they take up too much weight and space. I would have loved to see more on what you could do with the webbing. I like to attach my water bottle to one of the webbings in the shoulder straps: it's much handier to have it ready in front of you, instead of having to put down your bag or ask someone else to get or put back your bottle. I'm sure there are many other things one could do with webbings.
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 3 жыл бұрын
Great point, those shoulder straps can be useful. I don't use the back webbing much in my life so I don't have much experience with what to use it for. Backpacking I might attach things to my pack, but for travel I like my bags to be more streamlined. I might attach something like a caribiner clip, but I generally don't attach large bulky things to the outside of my pack.

@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 3 ай бұрын
I don't know that I've had it out in a storm or anything, the fabric has a water resistant coating but the zippers aren't water proof or anything. I'm sure it would be fine in light sprinkles but I wouldn't take it out in a storm or on a really wet day without a rain cover.

I have this bag for 5 years now, use it for EDC and flights. Its a fantastic bag but 2 things I would change - more padding on the bottom for the laptop and better shaped shoulder straps (they tend to run off the shoulders all the time).

Awesome! Really liked this thorough review. I’m considering between 28L & 36L and still having dilemma choosing one of them. I just don’t want it to be too bulky in outlook and also dun wanna it to be too small when I want to pack my stuff. Watched many of reviews for 36L ones, and it seems a little bit too big from the way it looks though. I’m still bringing my hand-carry luggage when I travel so I’m thinking 28L sounds not too bad. I also intend to use this bag for my day to day office work. Can you weigh in your advice pls? Appreciate Thanks.

This is the Freefly 16 (V1) which packs down smaller than the current version. The update has thicker fabric and zippers, it still packs down small but the stuff bag is slightly larger. There's a few others like the Beast which are larger too. Which Matador bag do you have?

Great video, do you think this would work for Aer Lingus? They seem to have very restrictive personal item sizing (10 in x 13 in x 8 in / 25 cm x 33 cm x 20 cm) but am wondering if this could squish down to get under the seat, even if it's bigger than those dimensions. I am between this pack and the Osprey 26+6, basically whichever one would fit better for the flight
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 8 ай бұрын
Of those 2 the Cabin Zero Mitary 28 is smaller, it's still larger than the Aer Lingus dimensions though. Put on as many clothes from your bag as you can and put things in your pockets before getting on the plane and hopefully they don't say anything.

Do you think the laptop sleeve would also be suitable for holding a set of let's say 5 t-shirts with the aim to keep them in place? Since there is no buckle or strap to keep your clothing in place. Thank you and kind regards! @OneBagTravels.
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 7 ай бұрын
Yeah you could do that. The pocket is fairly large and you can definitely roll t-shirts and store them in the sleeve. The top of the sleeve swoops down, so if you roll them you'd probalby only get like 4 shirts, but maybe if you fold them flat and slide them in all at once it would work. Either way I think you could make something work and fit most if not all of your shirts back there.

I agree that this bag is great without the additional padded laptop section. It really makes this compact backpack able to pack in a lot of gear. However, are you sure about the bottom of the laptop sleeve being stitched above the bottom of the backpack? I got my 28 l pack a few months ago and I can tell you that if I put a laptop in there it rests right at the very bottom of the bag with no protection.
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 2 жыл бұрын
You're right! I originally checked the laptop sleeve when I had it fully packed, the bottom fabric pushes out and it feels like the sleeve is sewn in higher than it is. But I just checked again and you're right, it's sewn into the bottom of the pack

can you recommend a bag that is space efficient and is pretty guaranteed to fit any personal size for 18x4x14?I have a cabin zero 36l i think. The measurements "seem" ok listed at 17.7" x 12.2" x 7.9" but i'm curious if it would be flagged or not fit as it looks very large to me...? It isn't over packed as i have the straps cinched in a little bit. I usually fly american, southwest, jetblue, etc. not spirit or ryanair.... I was considering a bellroy venture ready 26l, but i'm not sure how comparable the space would be and it claims it is too long by and inch or two, not sure if it could compress down?... i'm definitely not using the whole 36l of this bag, but i know liters are not always exact..

Do you meant 18 x 14 x 8? Osprey Expandable 26+6 is good too, Greenroom Rainmaker, Aer City Pack or Flight Pack.

@@OneBagTravels the osprey doesn't seem to be available anywhere. and the aer bags are taller than 18 too. the rainmaker looks very similar to my cabin zero? hmm l like the idea of more structure like the aer, but does it squish down at all?
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 8 ай бұрын
@@dentReviews The Aer Travel Pack is 19" tall, but the Flight Pack and City Pack are both 18" tall. They squish down a little, but not like a packable daypack or anything. Aer Go Pack 2 is a fantastic small bag that you can roll up, it's a little smaller than you're talking about but it's a great daypack and holds a lot. And yeah Greenroom bags aren't that different from Cabin Zero. And Osprey 26+6 is hard to find, they sell them as fast as they make them!

@@OneBagTravels my biggest desire is to take my 10l bellroy camera sling "packed" and place it in my personal item bag along with super small tripod, a packing cube of a few pairs of clothes, toiletries, etc. I can fit this all in my alpaka elements original backpack, but it's "very" tight, and that bag doesn't really "flex" much so if i was ever asked i'd have to probably check it. So the reason for my search is to find something similar to the elements pack but maybe a bit wider and less tall and maybe deeper in that it doesn't waste space with a laptop compartment i don't need and extra pockets. Honestly, the goruck packs look pretty efficient and nice, but they're so dang expensive. the cabin zero i have is 36L, but seems like it could actually work as it's pretty "squishy" but it's also just big, looks big, and not particularly comfortable per se. the military 28 looks nice, but it's hard to tell what it will fit. my elements bag "claims" to be 24l. so i would assume that would actually work. so many unknowns. :)
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 8 ай бұрын
@@dentReviews Goruck is extremely expensive and overbuilt for most casual travel. 5.11 makes a nice bag I've been liking lately, the PR-T. Kind of a GoRuck, Cabin Zero vibe, but really well made, very simple design, and inexpensive. I did a review on it last week.

Did you like the Cabin zero 28 more than the Cotopaxi allpa 28?
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels Жыл бұрын
I like them both. I think it depends on what style of bag you want, Cabin zero has a large main compartment without much organization. While Allpa has a lot of organization and internal pockets and dividers.
@cksiam
@cksiam Жыл бұрын
I've had both, but sent the Allpa back. I actually found it was easier to pack the same amount of stuff into the Cabin Zero and made for a more functional, more compact and lighter daypack. While the Allpa's organization and built-in "packing cubes" were nice and the pack carried extremely well (I loved the straps), there were things I just didn't like as much: stowing the straps was a pain, fitting in bulkier items like shoes was harder, and even the laptop compartment was too tight when the bag was packed. The CZ was easy to drop in a large packing cube and stack shoes, dopp kit an other items on top without issue, plus the external straps have been good to strap a jacket to, strap a packable sling to, etc. and was better for EDC while on the road. But the CZ is NOT the best if you need on-the-go accessibility to a laptop and other items on travel days, but I don't normally take a laptop with me. Loved the Allpa, but I found the CZ more practical for a compact travel pack.

Hi, i am trying hard to understand the 28L calculation for the CabinZERO with those 40X30X15 cm dimensions which looks like 18L Could not find the military 28L anywhere anymore in Europe, it s certainly out of stock for black or navy color...other green or sand colors are not to my tast . I might have some luck found this alternate product hedgren Keyed hmid07 backpack in navy blue that was discounted for 85 euros...it has similar dimensions being 45x28x14 (cm) and the site declare 17L :) Product looks good and practical
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 2 жыл бұрын
Great question, it's small but doesn't feel like an 18L pack. But you're right, in a volume calculator the dimensions they list come out to 18L. I just measured the bag and the specs in the description are a little off. It's closer to 46x33x15cm (18"x13"x6") Which would put the volume closer to 23L. It's soft so you can pack more in here, but it's still not quite the 28L they say. Looking on their website, a ton of their bags are Out of Stock, including all the colors of the Military 28. They're a British company so if I can get it in the US, you should be able to get it in Europe if they're in stock. It could be a supply chain issue. A lot of bag companies have long waits, out of stock items, or backorders. Also possible they're coming out with a new line of packs and running down the stock on the older models. It's spring and the time of year when bag companies come out with new models.

To me, if it can't fit a laptop securely then its a no-go for me. My travel/EDC back is larger than this. The airlines I have travelled on don't seem to care on size...although I did run across one airline in Asia that certainly cared about combined weight of BOTH carry-on items. I think most (perhaps not all) airlines are more concerned about it fitting under the seat. So unless you go way over, shouldn't be a problem.
