I did have some shrinkage of the foam in the area around the base of the light bulbs. I followed these directions (including each part and light bulbs all ordered from Amazon) exactly. I watched the area for a bit until I was satisfied the foam was not going to melt. It has been working fine. I have 120 quail eggs in it now. I did find the temperature has to be regulated any time you do something different inside the incubator such as adding water trays, water bottles, etc. Also, the temperature in the room where I have the incubator does affect the temp inside the incubator. I'm on day 12 and super excited in this new journey with quail. Thanks for all the info! Thank you for your patience with us newbies!

Hi Terry... I'm not sure how to attach a picture to this comment but I wanted to let you and your viewers know that we used your plans to build our incubator but we made it 3 tiers instead of two. The biggest problem we encountered was even heat distribution. Initially, we had a nearly four degree difference in temperature between the top and bottom tiers. We tried several things to improve that and for a while we were pretty stumped. My husband came up with a solution by building a simple diffuser and situating it directly under the egg turner on the lowest level. That seems to be working and has reduced the temp differential to just about one degree. At any rate, the changes we made to make the larger version were done with the same material list you used for your version. We did "fancy" ours up a bit with a water line to auto-fill the water pan for humidity as well as enclosing the wires at the top to keep things tidy. We also spent $12 on plexiglass to have a really large viewing window. Thanks again for the great instruction. If someone could tell this tech-challenged lady how to post a photo, I will gladly do so. :)

I and currently doing a copy of you plan with a couple improvements.I am using the styrofoam boards with the metal skin on both sides.Easy to clean and really looks good.One thing you can experiment with is the way you heat the box.I have two incubators I built.One I just use the Inkbird to regulate the temp and I did not like the flux of time between turning on and off.So I use one bulb that just stays on and by it's self it will hold a temp of about 98 degrees .Then the temp regulator just has to kick on and do kind of a top off of the temp.Now it kicks on about every 30 to 45 minutes and only stays on for 2 or 3 minutes.Never drops below the 98.Still tweaking on it a bit but have had a couple very good hatch rates. Love your videos .keep up the good work.

My question is I have a GFq incubator I live in Alabama has a thermostat siting on top the incubator it says 78 humidity but inside of my incubators is 45% humidity do I need to try dry hatching or add water in my incubator last hatch was 50% chicks died in the egg . incubator has auto tuner temp 100 humidity 45-55 last 3 days 65. Out side humidity 70% ?
@CoturnixCorner4 жыл бұрын
Did you open any of the eggs where the chicks died inside and how far developed were they? If they were fully developed but did not pip, they could have drowned in the egg. If the humidity is too high during incubation the egg absorbs too much water and the air cell is too small causing the chick to suffocate and drowned before being able to pip. It is normal to have a high outside humidity and a lower inside humidity due to the heat and air circulation inside the incubator. I would aim for a humidity level of 35% during the first 14 days then raise it to 65% at lockdown. You should be able to achieve this by dry hatching, then add enough water to raise the humidity for lockdown. Good luck and let me know if this resolves your issue.

Would it not up the humidity if the water was closer to the light? Like maybe 100 watt bulb with a pan of water under it?
@CoturnixCorner4 жыл бұрын
It would take some testing to get the heat and humidity levels right. For my location the bulb selection and fan are perfect for a dry hatch. Then I add 16oz of water to the tray for lockdown, I get hatch rates from 70 - 90%. Let me know if you test your idea and what the results are. Thanks!

Setting the temperature determines the cycle. Say it's set for 99.5, when the lights come on it's in the heating cycle, when they go off it shows the cooling cycle. The cooling side isn't hooked up so it's really not cooling, but the light comes on anyway.
