Humanities degrees can do analyst positions, research, anything with writing. Sell yourself as a story teller but also as a writer.

You don't have to buy the subscription for KZbin TV to get access to Sunday ticket. They sell a standalone version that's $360 or something like that.

There's a difference between a cable channel, a cable network, and a cable provider. Most cable providers (aka, the cable company) also provide internet and mobile phone/data service too.

Cable companies will need to keep moving their pricing model towards charging for bandwidth, not channels. 70% of my Xfinity bill is for the Internet, leaving 30% for TV. And I have their "ultimate" tv bundle.

The issue is that they still need to upgrade their internet infrastructure and many cities are allowing competitors which forces ISPs to drop prices from $200 to $70. Many are investing into mobile and allowing their network and their customers routers as access points for increased service instead of only relying on 3rd party providers.

Re citizenship. After 20 years in the US as a resident alien, I got citizenship. The reason was the incoming Trump administration: resident aliens have zero rights. The government can take a dislike to you and toss you out, with no right of appeal. This didn't concern me under prior administrations, but sure as hell did from 2016. Now we are moving to Portugal, where we will be paying higher taxes than under US law (but getting benefits such as excellent free health care, roads etc.) so will not owe tax to Uncle Sam.

@profg Great explanation of the cable decline. However, the real question asked was about price manipulation and restricted access of sports. If you want to watch all games of one team throughout a season, you have to have 6 subscriptions and triple overlap across subscriptions...so paying for CNN three times over...just to watch your team. How do we get regulators attention that this price fixing and collusion needs to end?

There's a certain irony to the prof decrying cable for charging a subscription and then running ads. I pay a KZbin subscription but still have to put up with prof g ads embedded in the video...a little hypocritical perhaps? Looks like podcasts are moving closer and closer to the TV model so you can't think it's that bad.

Watch one of the old PERRY MASON episodes from the late 1950's and its fifty-five minutes long, leaving only five munites for commercials and station ID in the broadcast hour. This piece of "overhead" for watching commercial telivision has expanded over four-fold over the past seventy years, where watching CNN now for approximately one hour brings one at least twenty minutes of commercials. The actual horrible truth might infdeed be that commercial television never was financially viable to begin with and that the networks have been getting by through lying to their advertising clients as well as posturing themselves as being something like The New York Times of the 1960's when there were four hundred people in the City Room at three AM in the morning; all waiting for the Titanic to sink again! 😊

@ have to pay to file taxes to both counties. I exceed the earned income credit and have unearned income as well, so it just means extra taxes (tot he USA), despite my income being foreign earned! Makes me nuts to have to pay such high taxes to a country that I barely even know anymore

Why does everyone get the whole cable companies are going to be the big loser argument wrong? They own the internet pipe to your house and there aren’t many, if any alternative options so they will always win. UPDATE: I was wrong, found out this morning that competition is coming for the big guys. That is good to hear.

Why is Europe the best place to spend money ?
@toddheartsound5451
@toddheartsound5451 19 күн бұрын
if one agrees that the best thing to spend money on is experiences: Europe just has a lot more diversity of experiences and in a smaller area too. Also, since Europe is pretty much a "sleeping" place, since we have much less work and less development, our economy is a lot more centred around milking the rich people - and we do that by offering them the absolute top tier of luxury products and services. Think: "Champagne" - Being rich in Europe gives you the benefit of enjoying the "Champagne" level of things that cannot (unlike Champagne) be exported out of Europe.

The more and more this guy speaks the more I realize he's not great for the US. To that person asking whether they should become a US Citizen or not, money isn't the only consideration. Plus, past performance doesn't necessarily indicate future results. This last election is a signal to everyone that this game of illegal immigrants taking advantage of the US is done. And it might mean that the door for future immigration may close quickly sometime in the not to distant future. Because if automation kills a lot of jobs, then there won't be a lot of need for immigration. Self driving cars alone will reduce demand for labor significantly. And that's just one component of automation and AI. If you want to become an American citizen, do so because the idea of being American resonates with you and your ideals. Yes, taxes will probably be higher. But not everyone boils decisions down to this reductive idea that profit maximization and self interest are the most important considerations like Scott does. He lives in Europe and has the optionality to come back to US even though he trashes it and pushes agendas for his self interest.

If you're a U.S. citizen then Uncle Sam always has your back. It's not just the passport. If you get taken hostage then the US military has the option to make Gaza look like a picnic.
