When summer comes, you should cut the top section of your euphorbia ghost, leave it to harden for a few days and pot. You will have 2 plants, but the top section will hopefully stay ghost white. Try not to put it in direct sun as I think the brown is a type of hardening due to sunburn, as there is little chlorophyll in the plant. That's what I'd do. Hope this helps. Jo from NZ

I live in an extremely different climate than you do where is very hot but I think the advice still stands for the euphorbia plant issues I have discovered that they actually love a lot more water than you would think. But maybe try watering more once summer time comes around lol. Our summers here get really hot and stay in the 100 degrees Fahrenheit. I’m a classic over waterer so mine was staying tiny for a long time but I put mine outside last summer and watered it everyday instead of every month and it more than doubled in size. I trust you know your plant best but more water and more light is my best advice. Good luck!

I keep my monkey tail cactus outside year-round (granted I am in FL), but it gets late afternoon sun and is on my front porch, (East facing), as long as you keep them away from direct sun (12-3ish) when the sunlight is most harsh they’ll thrive!! I’ve read that if you mist them they become more hairy!! I love your channel and that your cacti/succulents are getting the spotlight! I started collecting aroids and still love them but am mostly interested in cacti/euphorbia/succulents now 😁

I recently found some desert roses 🌹 on Etsy , I had never seen them before. They are from the Canary Islands and go dormant in the heat - closing up and turning pink looking just like a rose bud . I have quite a few now and they open up and grew once I watered them . Definitely interesting . I never saw a monkey 🙈 tail until yours So cool looking !

I think your white ghost problem is light related. This Euphorbia is lacking in chlorophyll. I think if you put it under your grow light it will do better. Good luck 🤘🌱💚
@liskalangdon65762 жыл бұрын
You are probably right! It can only be water, light , soil or amendments like fertilizer. So it probably is light related. If it’s getting light .. move it back. If it’s not getting enough move it closer 🤷♀️

I don't have that type of euphorbia but my euphorbia milk tree was doing really really bad as well. I know that it has petals so it's different in that sense but I had no idea how thirsty they are. Once I started watering regularly it took off. No more crisping or petals dropping. I water it as soon as the soil is completely dry. Again, it could just be the type I have. It is incredible though, I wish I had one. haha

Epyphitic Cacti is a fantastic channel. I love jungle cactus especially rhipsalis with their curtain growth and blooms - they grow so well inside and outside in Tasmania and my collection bumped up to 30+ over the past few months. They propagate easily and are relatively inexpensive down here. I'm now on the hunt for ' mature second-hand older plants from long time collectors'. Rhipsalis paceco-leonis might be the name of your R. paradoxa 'minor'???
@lacydilts40652 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about your euphorbia possibly corking, buti couldn't see any of the browning at the base (?). It could be sun burn, especially the ghost, since it only seems to be affecting the older bits. When they leave greenhouse environments they have to acclimate to higher "harsh" light which could be why the upper ones haven't been as affected. Not sure though...
@succulentlivingbymarija88722 жыл бұрын
Euphorbia ghost plant may have some brown spots from sunburn but this is little different. Sometimes euphorbias can get fungus and have brown spots spreading. If you have pure neem oil make a mixture with warm water and spray on those spots and watered with it. It should stop spreading. You can always behead top and root healthy looking top and after doing surgery on it maybe bottom stem can grow new branches too 😊

On your Ghost, you may want to cut those arms off and sprinkle some cinnamon on them. It could be a sign of rot. If you see rot going thru the cuttings, lop off the top and cut off the rot and let it dry off (wear gloves for the milky substance to avoid irritation). Then once the end piece is dry, stick it in dry soil and let it sit a week before watering. You may also want to check out ‘Desert Plants of Avalon’ channel. She is a wonderful lady chock full of information 🥰 Good luck with your Ghost and keep us updated.
@hollymaylin23122 жыл бұрын
I think your ghost euphorbia is corking, it happens to cacti when they mature to protect the plant so it can get larger. I actually have never seen a euphorbia cork before, only cacti, but I tried researching it a bit and i think they do (?). It's not a bad thing unless you don't like how it looks, you can always cut those bits off and maybe start a cutting of your main plant so you have a younger one that won't start corking for years.

I’m not sure if the little cactus in with your stapelia is a dragon fruit since dragon fruits usually get very thin and lanky when they’re grown indoors, but it’s definitely either a hylocereus/selenicereus or something in a closely related genus. If it ever blooms that would be a great indicator of its true identity ✨🌵✨

I always wanted the bear paw plant I totally agree they are so cute and fuzzy. Not a common find. The Euphorbia ghost one of my wishlist plant and the Euphorbia variegated cactus aswell. Another rare find been seeing so many planty community have one. I think it could be browing if is not rotten or have root rot then could be burn from too much high sun. Another reason cold be too cold aswell and draught area. I love your money tail aswell I don’t see anyone else having one another hard find. You seem to be able to get rare plants. Not fond on the split growth at the end though.

Great video, you have several cacti I’d like to get a hold of ❤️ Try increasing the light on your euphorbia - I had a sort of similar issue with my euphorbia trigona rubra, had it in a corner of the room getting what I thought was a decent blast of bright morning light but it wasn’t doing much and was looking like it was drying out (partly because I wasn’t watering like I should have been). Moved it under a (weak) grow light and it literally took off over the summer to the point where it got too tall for my shelf lol. The one stalk (is it a stalk🤔) that I had to chop since it got soft has now grown branched arms, plus arms grew on my other two stalks 😁 He’s now directly in front of the actual window and I swear he smiled and waved at me the other day 👋🏾🪴 I have a couple of brown patches on his body from the hard times but there’s sooooo much new growth and leaves above that now I’m just 🤗

Your issue with your Euphorbia lactea 'White Ghost' is 100% light issues. They have very little chlorophyll, so they need very intense, bright light to grow properly. Its current lack of light is causing it to sacrifice its growing branches so the main plant trunk doesn't die. This is beyond etiolation. A normal, green Euphorbia lactea WOULD etiolate under lower light conditions, but with 'White Ghost' it just doesn't have enough chlorophyll to survive in the lower light its currently in. This is one succulent that without bright grow lights in winter, its going to actively die back. I would suggest looking into getting your 'White Ghost' under a good grow light so it can thrive and grow properly. I have a collection of close to 100 different cacti and succulents that I keep outdoors in the spring and summer, and bring indoors when it gets cold. I finally had to get grow lights this year as my collection grew a ton last year and they didn't all fit in front of my South facing windows anymore. They've been doing great under the grow lights, I even got my Aloe vera and my Agaves putting out new, large, healthy looking leaves. I have an Opuntia monacantha f. monstruosa variegata that is also notorious for killing off its new growth if not given enough light, just like your 'White Ghost' is doing. I tried keeping my Opuntia directly in front of a South facing window last year, like less than 6" away, and it grew horribly etiolated. Like even direct winter sunlight wasn't enough. I got it under some grow lights this year and not only is it growing normally, but the white variegation is keeping the gorgeous pinkish-purple color it acquired when it was outside in full sun for 14+ hours a day! For my cacti/succulents their grow light is on for 14 hours every day. Regardless of what type of lights you go with I'd start off with 6 hours a day, then bump it up 2 more hours every week until you reach 14-16 hours of light each day. I guarantee you that you'll start seeing some explosive new growth!

I have a 5 foot tall ghost euphorbia. They sun burn easily. Just give him bright light no direct sun.
