I think the cadians should have a bonus for being used in/alongside transports so it goes like this: Infantry squad: Line Infantry. Catachans: Scouts and assault troops. Kreigers: Hardy battle line troops. Cadians: mechanised boys.

The Krieg Marshall can also join only Krieg units, so it's not just locked to the Cadians. Imagine Cadian Shock Troop blobs commanded by a Krieg Marshall, or Kasrkin with the Marshall. I'd love to have that.

A castellan, a command squad with a mortar, and an infantry squad with a mortar with one of them having Drill Commander makes for a nice little firebase to plonk on a rear objective that can spit out vox orders and 5+ autowound exploding mortar shells to nearby troops and enemies (hopefully respectively!). Extra orders on it costs 15 pts

The mob of infantry will cost you 130, command squad 60, castellan 50. That's 240 points. You get 3 heavy weapon squads for 180. Also I don't know from where you could get those 5+ [Lethal Hits] from

You can't have both the castellan and the command squad attached to another unit. Only 1 leader can join a unit.

AFAIK, GW stated that it's an oversight that some units can end up without melee weapons. Seems like an oversight

The castellan is great for getting out of melee and getting ready to shoot so the kriegsman can hold the Frontline and Cadia gives firesupport (in cases where you can shoot into meele fights from outside) and i personal prefer the castellan with with the Kasrkin and grand strategist for the multi orders.

I'm team both. I love the Castellan, I want to take him as my foot officer, but he's shoehorned in with Cadians. We NEED a generic foot officer that's not picky.

I keep reading about those "new" officers. Any idea what to use when not playing Cadia in a guards army? I'm polishing an Armageddon Steel Legion army for creating a surprise. But since the "Old Bale Eye" is no more i'm wondering who to take as officers.

If you are playing as the death korps, use the Marshals (found in the index for forge world units) otherwise you should be using the Lord Solar Leontus and Platoon Command Squads.

Fall back and shoot is especially good in shooting meta. Allows you to charge enemy units to prevent you from getting shot at, then fall back and shoot yourself next turn.

I'm team Castellan because I run a Cadian guard army lol I don't have any kriegers. I use my Minka Lesk model as a Castellan and I have her lead my Kasrkin Squad. My Kasrkin having sustained hits 1 and two orders on them really makes them an infantry deleter unit in my experience. It may be a bunch of lasgun shots, but they're lasgun shots with AP -1. All hitting on 2's, Sustained Hits 1, and Lethal Hits if I have them posted up somewhere (generally holding an objective since they can't sticky like my normal infantry).

I think it was more fun with guard when you had platoons 2-5squads and 0-3 hw teams with platoon command squads and then the company command squad for the big boss...also miss the white shields... was more lore then

I am definitely team castellan, if for no other reason that liking the model!! I think it is a solid unit though, and definitely gives cadians a place in this edition. Without the castellan, I think Cadian squads are lacking when compaired to Krieg Korps!

I have been wrestling with the lack if a close combat weapon too. I haven't found any information if that was an oversight or a misprint for the character. The pistol can still shoot in engagement range but that shouldn't be it.

On WH app if you choose Boltgun , you must choose Laspistol if not goes to error. Maybe it's the close combat weapon the Laspistol

I like chimera or taurox with castellan with dakka kaskrin giving themselves frfsrf. You put out like 33-35 shots including the sustained procs if you are in rapid fire range

kasrkin are the way to go, I think. the castellan works well with them, both as drill commander and grand strategist. the first gives the opportunity to substained hit on 5+ and the other gives your unit 3 orders at the same time. both looks realy nice but I would go for 3x orders because I can have that every turn and not only, when my opponent allows me to

@@calronkeltaran493 Grand strategist allows you to give an extra order to another unit it doesn't allow the unit he is leading to be affected by an extra order. You can only have 3 orders on kasrkins with Ursula Creed.

@@RickyVis the enhanchement says: " In your Command phase, the bearer can issue one additional Order." usually you are right, since every unit can only take one order. but the kasrkin rule superseeds this: : "In your Command phase, you can select one Order to affect this unit until the start of your next Command phase, in addition to any other Orders issued to this unit by an Officer model this turn." the important parts are both at the end. the first is "in addition to any other orderS" (plural) and "by AN officer" (singular). so they can get multible orders as long as it comes from one single officer. so a random officer with grand strategist can give them 2 extra orders for a total of 3. creed can do the same. if you are somewhat crazy and don't want to order your tanks, you even could give them 4 orders with lord solar because he is only one model. nothing in their text says the officer needs to be in the same unit either. so by RAW you can stack quite some effects on this unit and since the unit has to be on the bord on your command phase for this to happen (so enemy can shoot them + no transport bombs), I don't see any reason why this should not work

If Cadian Shock Troops were vaguely competitive then it would make the Castellan way more attractive as an option. Until Shock Troops get a boost then I don't see the Castellan being used much; maybe with Kasrkin or some gunline Infantry Squads but that's sub-optimal compared to Krieg with Marshalls.

Castellan Combo: Drill Comander. Join 20 man infantry with command squad. 3 mortars. They are activating crit on 5+. That means 5+ is lethal hit, and Sustain hit. You also got 2,3 orders back field for arty.

@@calronkeltaran493 lethal hits! Yes it’s not ideal. As Morrison said my tourney list is death Korp Marshals. Got a second list that is all Indirect. Think I can kill something like Mortarion T1. All about lethal hits. 3 earth shakers, 3 Medusa, 3 manticores, 3 squads of infantry with command squads (all mortars) Regimental attaches. Ordinance guy poking out, and astropath to protect deep strike. Silly list; I’ll try my next game. Mortars mostly useless but with “fields of fire” and lethal hits enemy is making save rolls.

Same combo but with Creed and plasma + ac. So two orders on the unit for +1 hit and 1a on rapid fire.

@@sebastianhautamaki4439 I have been trying to make that work, but they have to walk up to 12”. You can’t order infantry in vehicles. I think even Karskin with their free order don’t get it in a vehicle. Creed can’t join Krieg. Anything not krieg just gets melted. Plus Lethal hits are awesome! As in infantry lass can kill vehicles easy with lethal hits. 1 lass rapid fire lethal hits, it’s better than a plasma without. Roll it out.

I want to like the castellan but feel he doesn't offer enough compared to the other options. Creed and lord solar are just better for orders and CP. The marshell works really well with his regiment to turn them into a tanky block. PCS and CCS bring a number of rules, a few special/heavy weapons and could have additional models attached for more rules or melee threat.

i think he does well in large hordes of infantry where you already have ursula, leontus, command squads, etc. and still need more officers. or put him in a transport with kasrkin

Team Marshall, all the way. Every battle report in 10th with DKoK and Marshalls, they take an incredible amount of damage. The amount of damage all the various infantry squads has put out is lackluster. Superior damage taking vs slightly improved damage dealing: the Marshall wins.

in your shooting phase yes you can shoot in combat with pistols. but no pistol whipping in the fight phase. the commissar can and will exercise their judicial powers if they see even officers inappropriately handling their weapons.

It mighty be viable to stuff him with 10 Kasrkin into a little Taurox for some 19" advances in first round. You could even stack 1. Rank 2. Rank and Take Aim on them, making them 2+ shooter with sustained hits for some suprises.

Too bad you can’t use warrior elite in vehicles or use orders when you disembark… the order rules are just bad in 10th so kasrkin have to footslog and get mulched like guardsmen to use them
