Passenger side fan slid out easily, however the driver side fan was a bit more difficult. I tried what you suggested and moved it over to the passenger side with no luck. Had to separate the fan blade from the motor in order to remove.

just bought a 2002 eldorado with p0481 and p0480 codes... don't believe the fans are turning on. scanner on showed coolant temp while car is idling got as high as 217. Miles are about 85K on the car. Anyone have an idea if the likely cause is the relays or the fans themselves or something else?

My understanding is the PCM controls the three fan relays to give two speeds, low and high. On low speed only the left fan will operate, high speed both fan motors should spin up. If both fans never come on, check first the COOL FNS 50A fuse in the RH underhood fuse block. You will probably have to remove a plastic cover in front of the left strut tower to access this MAXI fuse block. There should be a sticker(legend) illustrating which fuse is which under the cover. If this fuse is not open, check that there is power at/through it. If the fuse is open, the wiring could be shorted, or a fan(s) motor could be shorted causing too much amperage to flow and open the fuse. At this point, compare the resistance of both fan motors. I am not sure what the typical value should be, but I would think that the one with considerably lower resistance is a bad one. If they are the same, the plot may thicken. A fan should definately come on with A/C request and compressor operation, and both should come on at somewhere around 195 to 215 degrees(F). If both fans are inoperative, another common denominator is the ground G107 which is bolted to the transmission housing under the thermostat, best viewed from the underside. If you had an open ground at G107, you would have other issues, like no compressor operation, and possibly an ABS fault, but the ground lead from the fans circuit is spliced into the other circuits, so anything is possible. Has this car ever been in a frontal collision? That could play into other causes of the fuse being blown and/or an abnormal ground issue. But do your due diligence..

@@notsofast2325 I appreciate your help very much. I just put a new ac compressor Accumulator and Orifice tube on about 6 hours ago. I vacuumed the system down and let stand for 1 hour no loss of vacuum so I preceded to charge the system. I inserted my line in my pag oil and let gravity do it's job. Time for R134A I started the car turned on the ac to high as I'm putting R134A in the low side the compressor never kicked on so I pulled the ac relay and used a jump wire to charge the system. I checked the red 10amp fuse good i checked the ac relay bad, I replaced it with another from the vehicle since stores are closed. From my understanding when I turn on the air conditioning it commands the ac condenser fan on 1st then the air conditioning 2nd. I turned off the air conditioning compressor when monitoring the gauges the head pressure was around 250 and the fan or fans wasn't working. I'm putting the car back on the rack or lift this afternoon at 1pm. This is my daughter's car I bought to fix up for her really nice car. You did mention possible wreck my daughter did bring me the car with the front bumper dropped by the front of the fenders where the plastic retainer clips secure the bumper cover. I did notice that 1 horn was unplugged passenger side and lower fog lamp DL side. Of course I put the car on the lift and fixed the bumper correctly and reconnect the horn. It wasn't a frontal impact wreck she was backing up and didn't realize the air ride suspension bleed off and the car had lowered onto a small cut down tree stump. The damage is done. Thank you again

@@notsofast2325 The high fan does kick on at 195-200 I haven't messed with the car much since I bought a Buick to restore and flip. Now that the Buick is gone I'm focusing on the A-C now before summer comes. The 10 amp and 50 amp fuse was both blown I replaced both only the High fan work's at normal operation temp. My question would be which of the 3 relay's mounted below the radiator control the Low speed Fan. Thank you for your help and support

@@puppetmaster1727 Hey big guy! nice to hear back from you. Humm? Ok this is what i came up with. With no A/C commanded the fans will NOT come on until coolant reaches 224 degrees, when both go to SLOW, coolant goes down to 213 and fans turn OFF. If you're in really hot ambient conditions in traffic with A/C OFF, then heat may go to 236 in which case fans go to FAST, then SLOW at 224, then OFF at 213. But before swapping relays and chasing ghosts, you need to do some simple diagnostics. These are not hi and low speed fans--the fans are the same but connected in series for low speed (each motor sees ~6v), and then connected in parallel for high speed (i.e. normal 12v to each fan motor). If neither fan works in high or low, it has to be a power supply issue (either 12v or ground). If the RH fan runs in high but the LH never runs, then the problem is with the LH fan itself. Either the connector is loose, or the motor is bad. I would bet the connector if you have just the one motor not running. For further diagnosis, what I would do is get a test light. Pull relay 1, 2, and 3. Check for 12v at pins (85, 30) (85, 87A) and (85, 30) respectively. Check for ground at the pins 87 of both relays 2 and 3. Put back relay 1. Command low speed fans, relay should click. Remove 1 and install 2. Command high speed, relay 2 should click. Remove 2 and install 3. Command high and 3 should click. The LH fan has a switched positive and ground. The RH fan has only a switched positive. The circuit changes between putting the fan motors in series to parallel. In slow mode, LH has 12v at top, bottom is connected to top of the RH fan, which then has a ground. So you have [+12v]----[RH motor]----[LH motor---[Ground] and both spin at half speed In fast mode, both have 12v at top and ground at bottom. [+12v]----[RH motor]----[Ground] [+12v]----[LH motor]----[Ground] both spin at full speed Hope this helps

Wasn't that easy on my 98 deville. My left fan was difficult. After unbolting fan mount and rotating bottom up I wrestled to unplug electrical connector. Then fan would not slide up and out without removing reverse thread nut to separate fan blade from fan motor. Only then could I find room to get left side fan out.

I'm having the same problem. I cannot get the left side fan out. It won't budge. I tried moving to the right side and that didn't work. I'll try removing reverse thread nut to separate blade from fan motor.

I put a 200 amp alternator on today I pulled the low speed Fan out hooked it to the battery the fan work's. It even spined in the car. I commanded the A-C on the control panel and the A-C didn't kick on. The guy that helped me said he believes it's the relay.
