She didn't like it cause Beyonce got to sing her songs live in movie they didn't use Etta James version because they the artist didn't own the rights to the music their permission wasn't needed to do the movie. Meaning Etta James had no choice in what her likeness was used as story wise or who played her. It's a disrespectful practice using people likeness without paying them their worth but that's what happens when they sign shitty contracts giving the use of likeness.

There's a very good reason why much of this film was fictionalized. This director's job was to get 12 or so major characters on and offscreen in two hours and tell their stories as much as she could in that compressed time. Given those limitations, she had to have a story line that included all those characters. To have that story line, she simply had to fictionalize some things about these characters because life is messy, but a movie can't be or you'll stop watching. So I don't blame director Darnell Martin for fictionalizing some aspects of this story. She had to. It's drama, not non-fiction. Like all good fiction, "Cadillac Records" was true to the real-life people without being fully accurate. Shakespeare fictionalized stories, too. You think "Romeo and Juliet" or "Hamlet" were true-to-life? If you want non-fiction, read something like "Moanin' at Midnight: The Life and Times of Howlin' Wolf," which I cowrote and which Eamonn Walker used to develop the Howlin' Wolf character in this film. His portrait of Wolf was very good but one-dimensional because the script didn't demand more of him. He had no time in the film to develop a fully rounded character. For example, he missed Wolf's comic side because that wasn't in the script. That wasn't his or the director's fault. This film wasn't just about Wolf. It was about 12 people associated with Chess Records.

It's kinda refreshing to hear that a lot of this movie was Hollywood revisionist fiction because now I feel even better about going back and watching this movie as a comedy considering the amount of laughs my stepbrothers and I got from this movie...between this and Ray you'd think we were watching full blown comedies from another room🤣

Your premiere chats are always a good time, but I was hollering all through this one! So much fun! I love musical biopics, but this one never appealed to me. It genuinely felt like I was being sold a "version" of the history as opposed to actual history. I do appreciate the soundtrack, though. Some wonderful covers and bops on there! This came out after dream girls I honestly feel like this should have been the Beyonce Oscar award winning performance Etta James was a talented soulful complex individual and I felt this was the 1 roll Beyonce put her all into and truly acted was submersed in it ...totally sad cried at the end even though he wasn't paying them right pacifying them with cars and cheated on his wife with Etta it was hella sad to leave his company and die before he got up street.

sorry not sorry but She Who Shall Not Be Named can't act her way out of a wet paper bag, a prison tunnel or an old fashioned wading pool from Toy's R Us! Not to mention, Gabrielle "I play the same character but change clothes in every movie" Union. I would have rather seen Kim"Tootie" Fields, Thandiwe Newton, or hell, even LisaRaye in the Etta role and either Aunjanue Ellis, Kimberly Elise or Nia Long in the Geneva role. It was a good story tho and i would have like to seen more about the Muddy, Wolf and Walter characters too. That yella gal know she always be messing up the groove of a good story with her wacktastic acting non-skills.
