My old Maytag ringer washer had a rubber flex joint, worked great for years with 1/4 hp motor

Yep rubber joints do a great job of absorbing unwanted vibrations.

Did you do a video on the reinstall of the driveshaft?? My new shaft don't bend as much in the middle, making it impossible to get on.. Do I need to drop the Diff or the Trans??

Great question!!! We usually are also replacing the bushings in the third member (axel) and then put in the driveshaft back in first with no issues, so you might be right. The new driveshaft are tighter. You may be able to lower the nose or loose the unit to get that extra 1/2 inch of clearance. The video was more of a way to show folks that were calling about the noise and vibration in these but because of all the shield was hard to be able to have them see it.

They had me replace the carrier bearing and rear flex disc twice each, before finally listening that it's not a serviceable unit.. I did the bushings separately because they kept it so long like that, it wore them out.. Thank you.. I'll do that....

Good morning Giga, you have asked a great question. first I recommend having it thoroughly tested and inspected to have a solid idea of what parts will be required for the complete and correct repair. Only then will you have the list of parts needed and you can start with that. If you do it yourself you can then source the best parts available. Since there's a lot of time involved to replace these components you will want to stay away from cheap parts that will not last or perform very well.

Good Morning , For the drive shaft part when it comes from the factory as a whole complete unit and depending on the warranty (12/12 or 3/36) for the parts and labor, plan on $1,500 to $2000.00. After market drive shafts or repair kits could be less. Also ask the shop to inspect the rear end (third member) for worn rear bushings (3 of them) as one or the other can shorten the life of the others parts if bad and not corrected. Thanks for asking.

@@Craigs_car_care I actually found a parts supplier on ebay that has the new center bearing only. The AWD bearing is different then the RWD and that was a harder find,. Was just about to go applied inc, as those old guys can find any bearing just by specs. even old old dinosaur construction equipment... Where can I find that whole drive shaft assembly and parts used that y'all used in this video for the Cadillac Srx? Ehat is the parts called or part number? When I looked up drive shaft it wasn't showing all the parts from front to back it had each parts sold separately. I only heard coupler and drive shaft but it looks like you all had the whole hookup come as one unit. I Iive in Cleveland ohio and the dealership hasn't been any help. I would greatly appreciate your help and input. I want to buy the parts the same way with everything that you all did.

The part number for that one was 15937534 from GM but you must check the application to your specific vehicle as the numbers can be different and supersede as well. Using a part other than what the factory calls for can have undesirable consequences. I hope this helps. Yes we have found this is the best way for great long term results.

VERY INTERESTING! My 2011 Cadillac SRX 4 AWD isnt vibrating or making a clunk noise. It does however not drive like it should for a vehicle with AWD. I know all are different but even the dash is saying Service Rear Axle. It seems to go in and out of AWD by going from Manual to Auto drives. This vehicle doesnt feel grounded even with its stabilitrak. It seems that the SRX AWD models around this year have issues where it will also fail to tell the driver that anything is wrong. No lamp notification or anything. The SRX literally is bad in the snow. I cant imagine Cadillac could or would put a vehicle out like this. Its gotta have a AWD problem. Was hoping maybe you could shed a little light and if youve experienced something like this ?

BD Start by having the suspension and drivetrain checked and inspected for loose or worn components and have those replaced if anything is discovered. Next have the date trouble for the rear axle identified and then the needed testing and inspections performed. (Fix what is broken or worn out first) and see if it feels better. A failed rear axle coupling solenoid,valve or the control circuit could defilny make if feel weird. Also keep in mind when the message you described is displayed the car is only going to work in front wheel drive as the system will lock out the all wheel drive.

@@Craigs_car_care That makes alot of sense. I didnt read anywhere online or heard from someone that it will only drive in front wheel. Had the fluid changed in the diffbut not sure if filter was. Its my brother vehicle. He had a stroke so I try to help him with the specifics because his mind has been effected. The alert reading service rear axle did not disapper after they changed fluids. I know the SRX do have a big issues with the the rear anxles.

So my SRX has a vibration from 20 mph to 25 mph. It sounds as if someone is playing a subwoofer loud in the back. All other speeds are fine, no check lights are on.. 125k miles, no rust, freshly mounted and balanced tires did not correct issue. Maybe this is my issue? Any other suggestions? Ill look under the car for obvious driveshaft issues

It sure is a good place to start as it could cause all kinds of vibrations and noises. In our shop when we get this information from a client, we take a ride together with the client and have them point out what they are hearing/feeling. Then we get it in the shop and on a lift to do the testing and inspections to find out what is causing it. Then we ask for the clients authorization to fix it. There are also the bushings in the rear differential that do also wear down and can do it or be part of it.

Good morning YouKnow DaVibes, lots of great questions, I will try and provide you some information. Since business charge based on what their operating cost are, warranty's, skill levels plus different parts of the country (if you are in the US) have a wide range of labor cost etc. the best way to get an exact cost is to first determine what is important to you in the way of do you need the job done quickly or can you wait a week while the shop fits you in/the length of the warranty/ Do you need a no charge loan car while yours is being worked on/ if the technician has experience or is new as newer techs generally are not making as much as an experienced tech and can save you money. Also many shops will no longer install customer supplied parts due to quality issues and the liability that goes with installing a cheap part. Also the shop has no recourse with the manufacture of a customer supplied part. So if a defective or a cheap parts fails in 6 months the person that supplied the parts gets to pay the labor all over again and deal with getting the part warrantied. There are a few different set ups but plan on it taking two to four hours to do the rear shaft. Things like rust, road damage, age etc. can very the time it takes to do this. Also, on many of these the rear differential bushings will be found to be worn also and this is a great time to replace these and can also add a few hours plus the bushings. These power platforms make a lot of power and do wear out parts from the torque and HP. You can try a nation wide on line system called repair pal dot com and enter your zip code and vehilce information to get a ball park in your area. If installing your part and no warranty is what you are ok with, start by asking these questions when you call around and maybe look for a shop that someone does out of their home as their bills will be less and thus they can charge less. Hope this helps.

Hi Felicia, I am not sure on the 2004. Also you can now find some separate parts on some of these since we posted this in 2019. First verify the drive shaft is the cause of the problem you are experiencing and then see if it can be repaired instead of replaced. The first and most important part is to verify what parts are bad and work the solution from that point. There is some ranges of prices for others in the comments down this list. I did not see them off hand but I do remember answering some of these years ago for 2007 and newer. But also sperate parts are becoming more available and can really save some money and still end up with a great repair.

@@misterlove216 you might also double check that there's not a wheel bearing making noise instead of the shaft. If you can get it up on a lift or you can run all the wheels in gear and use a stethoscope to zero in on all the noises that'll give you a better picture of what's going on.

Hi Ron, there are now some aftermarket options for fixing these. It will depend on what parts your shop finds it needs or if the whole shaft should be replaced. Also if you do it yourself you save the cost of the labor.

Look it over really carefully to make sure it is the right part and it was made correctly. It is a pretty straight forward installation and I always tell myself if I got the old one out, then the new one will go back it..

Good Morning Usher, great suggestion. It uses the same as the rear (rubber coupler) that bolts up to the transmission. The tech is removing these bolts and nuts at 1 minute in the video. it is a pain to get to all of these. Some guys will drop the exhaust if it is not rusted just to make it easier. Also I saw in some of the comments that a separate bearing and couplers can now be purchased. Sorry it was not more detailed than it was.

Robert we had to get this from the factory as a special order. We were not able to find any aftermarket we could use to carry the 3/36 warranty we offer. Sorry we could not be of more help. Thanks for posting.

So I have a fwd with the same issue I dont have a shaft to the back but on the passenger side behind the cv axle there is what appears to be a bearing of some sort do you know the name of it ??

I think you are talking about the Intermediate shaft and the one from the dealer comes with the clips, bearing and retainers. This is the shaft that sits between the transmission and the CV axle assy, for the passenger front. Also remember to have a quart of trans fluid on hand for your particular vehicle and be very careful not to damage the seal on the transmission end.
