It has been awhile, since i presented a BMW with a Boxer engine.
In fact, more than a year to be more precise.
But i just could not ignore this amazing BMW R80.
This is the work, of Vincent Amar, Thomas and Anthony Letourneur, and Denis Pereira, from "Le French Atelier", obviously located in France.

As far as I can remember there are few entries from France. Perhaps because there is no brand of motorcycles as in Germany, Italy, England or even Spain. But what you can say is that every design that comes from France surprises by the level of elegance and sophistication. Something elegant by the way is not something overloaded, on the contrary, it is simple but full of subtlety. The above applies completely to this beautiful motorcycle

There is a big French motorcycle manufacturer. Peugeot makes amazing super scooters. I visited Paris 2 years ago, and i was impressed by the huge number of Super Scooters that i found of the streets. Something like the Peugeot Metropolis 400 I remember the 80's when Peugeot launched the first modern scooter, the Peugeot st 50. It was a huge success on those days. But i recognize that this kind of motorcycles probably didn't reach your Country. :) Saludos.

Hey there. Our country also has overwhelmingly strict regulations on the subject of motorcycle modifications, restricting some of the base mods like shortening the frame; which discourage a significant portion of french cafe/bobber enthusiasts.

Hi. I understand what you're saying. But i think that it is not what Alejandro Monzon said in his previous comment. I believe he was referring to the low number of French projects, because of the apparent unexisting French manufacturers of motorcycles. That is why i talked about Peugeot motorcycles. :) Salute.

As you may recall, I've never been a fan of the BMW Café conversions. In retrospect, I must admit that my bias has been unwarranted. This project has caused me to rethink my BMW criticisms. I have always admired the air cooled boxer twin. A simple and elegant machine. I agree, the tank makes this machine! Very nice. I've grown to respect the simple, clean lines these bikes offer. Again, thank you for another presentation of a simply amazing machine!

Thx bro, firstly! Today, I also very enjoy your video. Personally, I like BMW R series a lot, especially R80. As you mentioned, the the fuel tank of R80 is the most beautiful and suitable for being a cafe racer, however, this French designer made totally different on his project and truly he makes me surprise that the Yamaha DT125 fuel tank, such a little motorcycle make a dramatically huge difference on this R80. I think there's no a certain standard for a cafe racer, seizing the most impressive part for the project, I think, is the best way to design a nice cafe racer project!! By the way, look forward to your next video!!

Really, modern motorcycles are very similar and repetitive. Even in large and small sizes of engines, famous brands or not, they have the same "pretentious and aggressive" and full of folds and creases design (especially here in Brazil). For me, I was born of the 70's, are much more attractive and beautiful options, certainly, but it seems that also go for a repeat and copy, soon. Building a motorcycle, is more than going to a store and buying one. And even if it does look like others, it's the experience that matters, the assembly, the persistence in finding the right part, the personal design, your heat in it. This is priceless.

Ola Amigo Victor, me chamou a atenção porque com o tanque de combustível menor o motor se destacou, e os mini faróis no motor também ficou muito legal, eu mesmo já havia apensado em um novo projeto para uma CB 400cc aqui no Brasil, utilizar um tanque menor, porém não vou fazer cortes no chassi, apenas irei trocar as peças.

alex e estou num projeto com motor cht 1.6 com caixa macha de 5 velocidade e to querendo usar esse tipo de chassis , se acha vai ficar bom ? porem to guerendo fazer sem tangue ou seja a gasolina vai ser dentro do chassis de tubo 3 " e turbo 1/1/2" dar uma dica amigo

cara nunca pensei nessa possibilidade, já pensou em fazer embaixo do banco, escondido...ai vc pode fazer um tanque falso só com chapas, recorta e parafusar direto no chassi. pintar o chassi de preto e a chapa fica na cor alumínio escovado.

é amigo a dica sua e boa ! geralmente motos com motor grande se destacndo fica legal ! eu arrumei a viradeira de tubo de 3" aqui e to querendo colocar a casolina na tubo debaixo do tanque pequeno e restante em tubo de 3" debaixo do acento , nossa a minha vai ficar linda , e negocio amigo e fazer aus pouco por que o dinheiro e pouco e burogracia e pior mas acho que vai ficar perfeita abrigado mesmo e vivendo amigo e aprendendo e apeiçoando uns com outros ! sempre falo sabio o que ouve e nao o que fala DEUS te abençoe amigo !

Por pura coincidência, lembrei dessa moto ( a BMW R 80 RT ) a dois meses atras, quando da morte do ex chanceler alemão Helmut Kohl. E agora peço licença a você quando diz: "E o que tem a ver isso com a moto do vídeo?" rsrs.. É que quando garoto, vi numa revista o lançamento da BMW K1, com a inesquecível imagem desse chanceler, de terno e capacete, dando uma volta no circuito de Hockenhein na garupa dessa moto, pilotada pelo ex piloto Toni Mang. A revista comentava sobre a escola alemã de design: Entre outras coisas, os motores Boxes, a K 100 com seus cilindros laterais, a R 80 RT com seu monolever e o amortecedor único lateral, e a obstinação da BMW em ser diferente, com a "nova" criação: a tal K1 rsrs.. Para um garoto brasileiro, ver essas motos era algo surreal, especialmente a K1, e isso aliado àquela imagem, jamais saiu da minha cabeça rsrs.. Quanto a moto do vídeo, realmente é tudo que você falou, mas se é pra ser diferente, prefiro a versão com a capa das rodas.. acho que elas completam melhor esse lado "exótico" das BMW rsrs.. Mas também me recordo do quanto a K1 foi especial nessa altura em que eu também ainda era garoto. Não sei se já lhe tinha dito, mas tenho a sorte de ter uma K1. À 8 anos atrás, tive que cumprir o meu sonho de quando tinha uns 14 anos, e comprei uma com apenas 8000 Km. Ainda ontem andei nela. É curioso que mesmo depois de tantos anos, os Garotos(Miúdos como dizemos aqui) ainda ficam de boca aberta quando vêm a mota a passar na estrada, e não param de olhar para o guarda lamas da frente. Dias atrás tive o prazer de pilotar uma K1600 da BMW. Levei cinco minutos para entender o computador de bordo, o que foi desnecessário, pois não utilizei nada dele no curto trrajeto. Fiquei impressionado com a diferença tecnológica para minha Harley......

A internet é implacável mesmo.. não só vi outras fotos, de outros ângulos, como também li uma entrevista com o piloto a contar sobre os bastidores desse evento rs.. já estava achando que teria que procurar meus antigos exemplares da Duas Rodas e Motoshow, guardados juntamente com meus discos do Iron, AC/DC, Judas, Led, etc.. em algum baú, na casa dos meus pais, para relembrar rsrs.. Thank you. But unfortunately, things are more complicated than most people may think. I use this "robotic" voice created by software, because i'm Portuguese, and my bad english accent (and voice), can ruin the documentary character that i like for my videos. I already tried a real american voice in one of my videos, but things didn't worked as i expected. Curiously, the robotic voice sounds very good for all non english natives. Cheers.

Thank you my friend for your Suggestion. I have to recognize that their bmw k1100 project looks really good for a K series with the original frame. But i still don't like the broken bottom line of the fuel tank and seat. And this is the real difficulty of the K series, which i would like to see solved without changing the frame. But like I said already, they look very good indeed. :) Cheers.

It's refreshing to see function equally important to form. I find the Racer in Cafe is all too often forgotten... It Is a Cafe Racer BECAUSE it defines speed and performance as a core element... I believe these are far more important principles than a seat cowl... myop This is my significant beef with the Sacha CX500... 50,000 euros and it doesn't make a single xtra HP to a bare stock CX... surely 20% of a ridiculous budget could be allocated to actual throttle and gear box... I would even have given a CX650 modded into it a thumbs up.... it really turns me off that otherwise attractive bike....

Bom dia amigo. Quando assisti ao vídeo pela primeira vez não gostei da moto. Achei-a "magra", com aparência de moto pequena. Certamente o detalhe do tanque me influenciou: no meu imaginário faço automaticamente uma associação entre a marca BMW e motos grandes, com aparência robusta. Então revi o vídeo e internalizei suas explicações. Motos minimalistas exigem atenção aos detalhes.... As lanternas traseiras, sutilmente colocadas ao lado do suporte dos amortecedores, a junção do tanque com o banco cuidadosamente encaixado no quadro, o velocímetro em um berço entre o tanque e o garfo, o recepiente com reloginho (temperatura do óleo??) próximo ao belo carburador cromado... Sim, é uma belíssima moto, que foge ao meu conceito de como deveria ser uma BMW Cafe Racer e, por isso, me surpreendeu positivamente. Um abraço!!!!

Sim, reconheço que muitas das coisas que valorizo em alguns projectos, são relativamente subtis, e que exigem algum tempo para serem detectados, e consequentemente disso, tornam o projecto no seu conjunto bastante interessante. Sim o reloginho a que se refere, é também o tampão do óleo do motor, possuindo por trás uma longa vareta para captar a temperatura do óleo do motor. Why is the headlight pointing upwards?

Probably to make appear that the headlight is part of the front forks. I recognize that it seems weird at first, but with time, it begin making some sense. But this is only my opinion.

I believe that the apparent headlight is only a a Daytime running light. The real headlight, are those 2 small lights mounted next to the engine. Cheers.

This whole thing has turned out to be a more sculptural approach to motorcycles. It has changed its course from being that old 50ties and 60ties track racer bikes, to a more minimalistic and sophisticated at the same time, design. I guess this is progress but all of these bikes look too clean and too fragile to be used as daily or racing rides. The cafe raced movement changed from the early 2000's expressionism to today's perfect impressionism. Both movements being avant guarde but the brush strokes have been changed to be more refined in detail nowadays. However they all look amazing, no doubt about it.

Unfortunately, things are more complicated than most people may think. I use this "robotic" voice created by software, because i'm Portuguese, and my bad english accent (and voice), can ruin the documentary character that i like for my videos. I already tried a real american voice in one of my videos, but things didn't worked as i expected. Curiously, the robotic voice sounds very good for all non english natives. Cheers.
