It's good that you put them higher. Before seeing the end I was going to comment that because most of your riding is looking forward, you don't want to take your eyes away from what's ahead too much. Having them way low is too much because you're looking away from centre too much. It's like looking below your tank. It takes your eyes away from centre for longer which is dangerous. Having them higher means you're glancing away from centre in less time. Having said that I've got mine to the sides ( because I've got wide shoulders and couldn't see with original mirrors, even with extenders added!!) and they fold in when lane filtering. But I measured and they're only 5cm lower than the original mirrors.

Eduardo Corrochio Those are some very valid points and yes I guess you need to accommodate for your extra wide shoulders 👍😊 not everybody is built like Arnold Schwarzenegger but I guess there is a downside to everything. I have similar mirrors on a bike, I prefer the look of them hanging under the bars. But, it is impractical for vision and you are moving your eyes too far from a centre view - reducing your ability to react to a developing hazard ahead. I have the mirrors positioned above the bars and they are tidy neat solution 👍🏼

I have the same mirrors and I installed them inside the handlebars and sitting on top. It works for me and I felt alot safer when I ride. Love your videos. I learned a lot from you. Keep them coming.

Ash Bayer to be honest with you the top position is starting to grow on me but once you have the mountain for a period of time you really just forget where they are and focus on looking at other parts of the bike. I’m very excited for your new adventure sounds like it’s gonna be a lot of fun

Personally I don’t mind bar ends, might use them in the future... BUT as to your question about up, down, or out... up, absolutely up. I guess it depends on where you ride and the type of traffic. Esthetically the down ones are cool, but I ride in Paris, and the lane splitting is savage hehe. The cars aren’t looking when they should, so if I have to lower my head to try to see something, it’s at least 2 seconds where my eyes aren’t on the road. And if that’s the moment some A hole decides to go... I’m in for a surprise Whereas if the mirrors are high up, I only have to move my eyes. And that’s under a second

filmdetective I really agree with your comment and it’s a great way to look at it, we definitely can’t afford to have eyes off the road for longer than we need to especially when there’s so many as you say A holes in the world that really just don’t pay attention or too busy on the phone. Waiting for the exact mirrors from Amazon for my '09 Suzuki SFV650 Gladius. In the lower position I was concerned that the mirrors would hit the tank during a sharp angle turn. The upper position is definitely the way to go for practical and safety reasons. They look awesome.

I like the upper installation better. I have them installed the same way on my Triumph Bonneville T120 Black GoldLine but plan installing round mirrors on ends of Honda CB750 (1975) cafe racer! Helpful video! Thx

I just installed the exact same mirrors on my Ducati Monster and just like you ended up doing, i put them up top. I didn't like the view down under (pardon the pun). Mind you, i had three goes at trying to get them with clear mirror and not blue mirror! Every one of them told me it's just a blue film on the glass and it will peel off. Every one of them was wrong....i gave up in the end and settled for the blue mirror. Great video as usual:)

Similar mirrors on a couple of our bikes. I like the look of the top mount you ended up with. Ours are all under mount and visibility is great. I guess it depends on handlebar rise and position. Thanks for the video.

I found those rubber inserts for the mounts to not have enough bite inside the handlebar & would allow the mirror to move. Another idea is to use sliding expanding wedges on the anchor bolt but a source for the Dynabolts would be a great option. Upper position for the mirrors as it is closer to your line of site.

Hi, I have the same mirrors in my CM 400t, and also firt try to set them bellow, but finally change to up position. Down looks better, but as you said, up you see more in it. Regards from Poland :)

Ooooh. I ordered those mirrors for my gs500. I was looking a t having them under too but yeah, it makes sense moving them to the top, you don't really want to be getting off the throttle to check the right.

@@CafeRacerGarage So I got the round version which I installed last night with a cold VB, and I've got the stem going forward so that if you are looking at it from the side, the stem points towards the break leaver and the mirror sits just above it. Having the round mirror makes the mirror sit like just above my pinky knuckle and I get some good vision as well as making the bike look mean. I'd share pictures, if i could work out how to send it to you. As I know my explanation might suck.

If you have the metal attachments when you undo the bolt the lock piece stays wedged in and the mirror is still locked in place. You should undo the bolt a little bit maybe 5mm and lightly tap the bolt to push the wedge out and then holding the bolt in place with your thumb pull them off. If 5mm isn't enough try a bit more until they do. You don't want to completely undo the bolt because once you've loosened them the wedge piece will stay inside the bars and you'll have to fish it out.

@@FunWithAJ Just a gentle sharp tap with a small hammer will do. The idea is to undo the bolt just enough to loosen the wedge from the housing but not so much that the wedge falls off the end of the bolt.

I actually prefer the mirrors mounted with the sleeve from the inside - so the mirrors point out coming from the tank side. (you would need different mirrors for that, though) That way it doesn't get this boxy look and the mirrors would look like they are growing out of the motorcycle - if that makes any sense to you? :D All in all I really love this bike! I hope I can turn my CB650 to something similar in the winter, if I can find a garage to work on it.. Thx for making these videos. This is sooooo inspiring!! :-) Best greetings from Germany!

Yeah I did under on my RE GT650 and after I day I was like "f this I can't see" and ended up going above the grips too. Below looks cooler, but so does none and well, gotta be able to see to not merge into a bus and die aye.

Gordon Henagar it’s a bit of a juggling act when it comes to something that looks good but also functional. I’m really happy with the ones that I have. I’m really not too sure how long they gonna last if left outside as I’m sure they’re not top-quality like motogadget

i have end bar handlebars originally, but it has several "but's". Looks good, but they limits the movement of my hands. Not big problem, but small limitation. I thought to turn them down, but I am afraid that I would not see them through my hands (and of course the situation behind me).

I had the exact mirrors on my bike. I decided to replace them because the vibrations made them droop, and there is no way of tightening the fitting. I decided to replace the mirror with round ones that had a plate that I could tighten screws to stop it from moving.

So i've tried the underneath style for a while now, and my only complaint about them is that i have to look down to see who's behind me, which takes my peripheral away from what's in front of me. This makes me feel unsafe and almost defeating the point, so i'm looking to change to the m.View Spy mirrors by motogadget instead. It's that cafe style as well so it matches my Thruxton 1200 perfectly. They are just expensive, lol.

Jurandir Pereira if you watch the video again I explain there are two ways to fit these mirrors. They can also be mounted by clamping around the outside of the handlebar instead of inside.

I have the exact same mirrors on my cx and they work perfectly. Altough the mirros are chinese made they are not horrible, the set inhad before this one was crap and had to be drilled out ( also chinese but really crap)

Erik Snel For the money that I spent on them I didn’t expect them to last too long if I left it out in the elements however this bike never gets left out so I’m sure they will last a lot longer in that respect. The best quality ones out there I think I’m motogadget. But this bike started as a budget build so I was just keeping with that theme Even though this bike is now complete and the challenge for being under the $1200 budget has been complete.
