I just came back to GW2 after a long break (9 years) and the fact that my gear was all still valid blew me away. Leaving WoW for 3-4 months renders your gear obsolete which is frustrating if you don't have a lot of time to play.

It's quite simply the best MMO when you factor everything in. Add to that, the amazing community and it's untouchable. My friend just came to PC and started playing GW2 after playing COD for years and he was absolutely mind blown by how helpful and friendly the community is. My no. 43 for me would be just how interesting & different the lore is from most fantasy games (the humans taking the place of the older & declining race usually taken up by elven race & the elven race in this game are the newest) & also the fact that it's very casual friendly & respects ur time along with the fact once you get something, you will always have it. The combat is great too!
@tomvandalen2212 Жыл бұрын
No joke, I just played it for the first time and the first Elven area(still learning names, the dream tree people I mean) was so pleasant compared to other MMORPG's. Just walk to the marker, start the quest (three objectives too! which mean you can choose to do something else instead of combat) and just click the thing. It made everything so much more convenient and now unless its Runescape level of writing I just want all MMORPGs to work like this!

No. 24 made me curious. I've had this game from the beginning and adding up all my playtime, I've reached nearly 4500 hours over 11 years. I'm a semi-casual gamer. There were times I put the game aside for months, but I was always able to come back, pick a character and dive right into whatever I was doing previously. That would have to be my no. 42: My "quests" were still right there waiting for me with the tips telling me which way to go and what I needed to do. If I'd forgotten, I could go back and open my story journal for a quick review. I've never had to look at a quest log and think wtf? Sometimes, I've wondered why I'm standing in a particular place and why I have 20 stacks of soft wood, but I've always known where I was in the story.

Loving the no sub situation, that was a big issue for me in the past (Have played WoW and FF14 previously) Community seems friendly - I was doing a jump puzzle to shoot a bug in lions arch and another player just helped me by showing me the way to go to find the bug! Loving the events that just pop up around me in and the world bosses I have done are super fun! Basically loving it so far, and I haven't even started on the expansions or improving my mounts (only have raptor atm) yet. The best reason I play GW2 is I can pick up the game whenever I want and basically progress where I left off. For example, I started the Legendary journey a few years ago then stopped -- I picked it up again a couple of months ago to remind myself that there's nothing legendary about the journey other than it's a legendary gold sink and legendary waste of time, so I stopped again. I come back to the game when there's a new expansion or story that includes a new map. My point is, you don't have to grind in this game unless you want to -- the game doesn't force you. You replay the content because you like it and you find it fun, not because there's a 0.0001% chance your BIS gear can drop, where you have to compete with your raid members often you leaving the raid empty handed other than a repair bill and must wait till next week for another chance. Yeah, none of that BS is in this game.

^This. I joined the HP discord by simply going to LFG seeing a HP train group, and then learning it was part of this discord. I was fresh 80 at the time, so didn't even understand how HPs worked even. Now that I have a better understanding of it, I know that if I feel like doing a HP train instead of story, I can just jump on the DC and join next train. The guild I joined was the same, literally needed help, a dude helped me, turned out we had a lot in common, I'm now part of a group of guys in their 20s-50s who all have real jobs and real lifes outside of the game, all who understand the importance of showing up, and the importance of being nice to eachother. It's just so refreshing after years of abuse in games like CS and more recently Valorant. I sometimes wonder if I would be a different person if I got hooked on GW2 instead of CSGO when that came out, or MMOs in general instead of Competitive Shooters like UT/Quake/CS.

If you’re ever interested in spvp in mmos definitely give gw2 a try. Low barrier entry and values skill over how long you farmed for your gear. It’s perfect if you only have a few hours a day to play
@farguc10 ай бұрын
I have been back and forth with GW2 since 2013. I first heard of GW from a friend, who loved original, and suggested I play gw2. Back then I didn't really like the time investment mmos required, prefering to play games with more instant gratification(like Counter-strike, you don't fall behind, other than getting rusty mechanically if you don't play). I think I got to level 10 and quit. Then over following 10 years I would try the game, fail to love it, quit and such. Then last 2 years Lost Ark has sparked my love for the genre, and burn out in that game made me realize I dont have to min/max tryhard to enjoy these games. So I jumped from LA to NW to GW2 to ESO to WOW to FF14 to NW to ESO to never really falling in love with any of them the way I did with Lost ark prior to burn out. I recently had a total burn out at work which lead to mental breakdown that I am recovering from now, and GW2 has become my comfort game. I Only completed the main story and HOT, and then decided to change up a char(since i have the boost from buying expac) and do POF with a different character. I know it's not efficient, I know I'll need to redo the story again if I want to have a completionist char, but honestly I dont care, and the games community doesnt care, because as long as we all have fun, nobody cares if you don't min/max etc. Of course you should be respectful of people doing hardest content, and not throw yourself blind, at least join a guild so they can teach you :) Anyways I think for me GW2 is just a solid game, that despite it's publisher managed to strike a balance between fair monetization and still turning profit. Something many other games fail to do despite being otherwise really good games. As for 43: I play it because I like the game, and it's shortcomings pale in comparison to the things it does right. It's the ultimate Dad game.

WvW is without a doubt some of the best PvP out there in MMOs! Theres just nothing like the zerg battles that take place in this mode. Commanders, bombing, shielding, teleporting all make it so intense and fufilling when your zerg plays it right and ups devastating not one but two other zergs of 80+ opponents. You can also start in WvW and progress your charachter and ultimately account greatly just by playing and enjoying this mode. I think it's going to redieve heightened attention by Anet too making its future even brighter.

People keep taking about vertical power progression and horizontal progression, but they're never properly defined. What I think they mean is that vertical progression is quantitatively additive benefits to what you already have whereas horizontal progression is qualitatively substitutive benefits for what you already have. For example, getting a weapon with 2 damage to replace your weapon with 1 damage is vertical progression, whereas getting a weapon with 1 damage to replace your weapon with 1 vitality is horizontal progression. This definition can also apply to systems not directly linked to mechanical gameplay, like inventory. This may not be an obvious thing but GW2 absolutely has vertical power progression. It's not crippling your character with every new content release, but it's there. Vertical power progression in GW2 manifests through masteries like Combat Launch, Rescue Protocol, Spectral Aid, Fractal Attunement masteries and other various masteries that offer a gameplay advantage in their specific content zones. Besides vertical power progression, there's also vertical progression for quality of life features, like legendary armor, permanent contracts (bank, trading post, merchant, crafting, gathering tools), inventory and bag space, teleport tomes and MUCH more. GW2 has a lot of QoL vertical progression. Now, I believe that GW2 has the right approach for player progression whether it's "vertical" or "horizontal". When you get a shiny new thing in GW2 it always feels immediately impactful. You can feel the benefit of not having to craft new stuff for a new build once you get a set of legendary armor, you can feel the benefit of being able to use updraft currents on your flying mount once you unlock that mastery, it's not just an endless treadmill of "make number go bigger" like in other games. The game makes you actually feel more powerful when you unlock new stuff, kind of like, umm, I dunno, a hero rising through the ranks to become a commander with a plethora of tools at their disposal.

You find it annoying that you need to pay money to play the game that has minimal monetization otherwise? Are you the type that didnt play/is pissed of he had to pay money to play Black Dessert or ESO? Those games have far worse monetization, actual p2w. Are you the type to be pissy FF14 trial doesnt let you access all content features? Game gives you a free trial to the base game, expacs are priced fairly, and all you need to do to enter 90% of the features missing in free game is buy any of the expacs. Then if you want specific things from an expac, not to mention older expacs/LS are obtainable by playing the game and exchanging gold for gems. The game literally gives you the option to completely ignore the MTX and just use your in game earned funds to buy all the "pretty" skins. Go back to WOW where you get access to everything as long as you pay for the 50 buck expac and monthly subs or get to "enjoy" the first 20 levels(potentially worst 20 levels of the game).

4: Some people love JPs (jumping puzzles). Those people are diagnosably insane and need to be heavily medicated for their own safety and that of those around them. 7: Horizontal progression means everything stays relevant. You don't just do one thing in an area then never come back. VALUE! 11: Hug your children daily so they don't grow up to be like Braham. 17: While watching this I captured a node that gave my team the lead in downstate. Prime elementalist skills, baby! (Seriously it was very exciting. We won.) 20: You will always find at least a few jerks on the internet but a nigh incomprehensible amount of GW2 players actually enjoy helping others get into the game. The game is actually designed to encourage player cooperation (even in PvP modes, at least within your team) with things like shared credit for kills, instanced loot drops, XP bonuses for reviving downed players, etc so helping others generally nets tangible rewards with no downside. 25: As of this comment (4 months after video publication) the devs recently stated that player activity is currently the highest it's been since launch. Eleven and a half years and still going strong with release schedules set for two new expansions going through 2026. 29: Fasion Wars is the true endgame and has three categories: fantasy "realistic," human female meta, and blinding supernova. All three categories are highly active and competitive.

But one reason drive me nuts in Gw2 tbh and that's the stun mechanic. Once you get stunned, you can be stunned 10 hours if no stunbreak (which might be realistic in solo pve setting) and get killed by 4 little fungis over 100h while stunned. They really could add a 5s or 3s stability buff after being stunned. That is one of the really few points I hate about Gw2 and I feel like this has a better solution in literally ALL other MMOs. But yeah, apart from this I agree calling out Gw2 the best MMO 🤗

Guild Wars 2 - A game that is very difficult for any sane gamer to hate, a win-win FREE TO PLAY masterpeice compared to...

Been playing for 78 years, and I still love it Soloable, except for that shithole from hell HoT, most specifically TDs, and Fashion Wars

After 10 years Elder Scrolls Online still have a LONG way to go to be a shadow of GW2. What the ESO fanbase has been asking for years - YEARS - for naught, GW2 has had for years. Verily, ANet guys are like pro-gamers, ZOS is like a child wanting to make a money-making machine

I wish there was an option to be able to see account names under char names so u know who tf everyone is. I got a bank char , a charr mech called Lotsa Nuts, I don't play with Nuts, cause that would be gay but he stores my jewels and valuables :P I got two called Lotsa Drugs, cause they either make you see shit or throw potions at u, or fear u :P . A Thief called Steal Thorne that I troll with in WvW :P basically go invis and kamikaze kill a few players then do my best to escape . A catalyst called Asap Broccoli :P Mostly sylvari cause they look cool. I only got like 11 total but ill prolly get to 20-30+.

You didn't mention joining a guild. After all, the name of the game is "Guild Wars".
@DionTalkFinancialFreedom11 ай бұрын
Not having to be in a guild is why I’m trying the game. Guilds ruin game play. Example: My nephew joins a guild and gets gear dumped every 6 months. He doesn’t play at all between. But always has best in slot items in wow. VS a player who plays 10 hours a day but doesn’t raid. And has half the stars as the gear dumped raider. Why many leave wow.

I really dislike button smashing. I wish they introduced a global cooldown for abilities or made weapon swapping out of combat.
