After I did the Zhaitan fight, way back when, I was so angry and disappointed that I wrote a 5 page encounter layout, where the fight is broken up into multiple encounters, many people die, the ship is destroyed and the Pact must go all in until the Elder Dragon does down in a blaze of terrible rage and fury like it should have been. To this day, seeing it hurts my soul and your foreshadowing of your disappointment triggered my PTSD. I had to beat up somebody in the streets to make it go away. All that said, even though it's my duty as an MMO enjoyer to hate MMO's, other people, devs and life in general, GW2 is probably the best MMO out there.

The bossfight is boring, but I like the overall plot.. an elder dragon awakens from its 1000-year slumber, raises an entire dead continent to create an undead army, causing a tidal wave that destroys major parts of the world map.. But the dragon didn't know the living races had banded together and created flying ships with plasma cannons, and just gets shot out of the sky :D

Man, I was waiting to hear the rant about the Zhaiten fight because everyone made the same damn rant about it after they fought him. Just so you know if your chat hasn't mentioned it, Anet already admitted that it was suppose to be a two stage fight with the first stage in the air and the last on the ground. you can even see a glimpse of a map, in one of the trailers that was suppose to be unlocked after the fight ( the one with dragon in the ground with its maw opened up, so players could explore inside of it.)It was changed because of at least two reasons, 1) they believed the dungeon would have been too long and 2) they ran out of time, so they rushed they had out the door. Thankfully, anet has somewhat learned from this fight and made the others, somewhat better.

Anet also has trouble with keeping the scales of power in game. Like, Zhaitan is an elder dragon that can change the literal landscape of a continent, not to mention with 'undead magic' so fighting him should be a nightmare due to revives and powerful blasts of magic on top of endless hoards of monster armies. Yet, we the players, just hit a button and big dragons go down -_- When u know a bit of lore, all dragon fights are disappointing. But Zhaitan fight is especially bad on a massive scale.

The asura orphanage-bit had me in tears, great video! I definitely find convincing friends to stick with Guild Wars 2 through the initial, core experience to be the absolute worst thing about it. I have tried (and failed) many times, and this video perfectly encapsulates why that could be. Roze , you mad genius . I needed this review . Thank you for bringing back the PTSD that was the Zhaitan fight . The culmination of the base game personal story in GW2. I repeated several times . For various reasons when it was a 5 man instance. Rumor had it there was a ground fight that was suppose to happen . When you knocked Zhaitan from the sky. Apparently was scraped . Would be amazing to get that lost fight we deserve as players. I love the flamethrower prop . Thanks for smiles & trauma . Great edit sir. Zhaitan being a bad fight is generally accepted, his weakness was.... himself. His minions are his true strength when he himself is basically a cup too close to the edge. If they were to redo the fight, i wish that after you shoot down Zhaitan on the pillar, the pillar does not break, he is still moving below, regenerating. As he is too close to the pillar, you can't attack it from above as it might break and hit the troops below and the ships are too expensive and with too many people to just crash on him, so they land and rush his flailing body like the others who keep an hold on the outpost there. Turns out, unlike a hydra, his regeneration ability can't cover all wounds, so you chop the heads of his mouth one by one so his regeneration is halted enough that you can end him for good, seeing his flailing body finally, forever, come to a halt. His last words being... "[you know who vets]...", being an chilling forshadowing.

Still the best GW2 content creator out there! It's insane how much work you put into this. Nobody else can get me to watch a 43 minute video in its entirety! Hilarious as always! On the story. Yeah, it's a running joke in the community how bad the finale of the core story is. And I'd tell you it gets better, but it's still a rollercoaster of ups and downs all the way through. I won't spoil anything, but if you want to experience the best story boss fight, I think you should play through to the end of Path of Fire. It's you one on one with the big bad. No gimmicks. And the fight actually has clearly telegraphed attacks that punish you pretty hard for playing like a potato. It also has great music and voicework with some pretty memorable dialogue between your character and the boss. It's about all I could ask for in an MMO story boss. On the open world experience. All I can say is, if you think the core game open world experience is great, wait until you see the expansions!

Not surprised when people get to Zhaitan they get disappointed. Be nice if the devs got to finish the whole encounter. People found a hidden room that was basically his corpse and you likely fight undead while destroying the core or organ of necro magic.

"The Definitely-has-to-be-Good-There's-NO-WAY-They-Screwed-This-Up Final Battle" got me real hard. because that´s EXACTLY what it is 6:53 EXACTLY. that´s one of the biggest critique-points i have towards ArenaNet. They (almost) always have a GREAT idea, that if fully fleshed out would be insane value. Yet, the process of "fleshing out" these ideas is extremely often lackluster at best, sometimes to the point where they shouldn´t have implemented that idea at all... 21:13 me, sitting in my chair: "oh no" 32:20 that´s the blessing and the curse of older content in GW2. It´s a blessing in the sense of "you can experience not only all of its content, but you can also experience it ALMOST the same way as a player did when it released". And a curse, because obviously, what was strong back in 2012 is no longer strong nowadays, but it will ALSO not get improved in its majority. Its nice to have this "time machine", but it´s not as great of an experience for a new player nowadays than it maybe was for a player back in 2012.

The 1-80 experience being an extended tutorial is definitely true. Though I suppose that works out, especially with the base game being free now. It lets players see if this game is something they want to invest a lot of time into without charging them upfront to find out. If they do enjoy it, they can shell out for the Expansions/Living Story, or even start making alts to explore other classes. The base game's story being so weak is 100% because of all the branching early game options that they put in for character creation. Every race needing to have a bunch of different optional story steps that ultimately can't amount to much of anything because they all have to converge on the Whispers/Vigil/Priory choice, which also can't mean too much because those three also converge after Claw Island. Which leads to the Zhaitan saga just feeling really disjointed and weird because it's so unfocused in the first two thirds. So the "it gets better after that" thing is also because the writing and development teams don't have to make 30 different missions that might not even get played.

The saddest about the Final boss is : About 10 years later we actualy redo this fight but how it should be from the begening (aka : Fighting... not just press F) and its really quite enjoyable. Actualy it's part of my favorite encounter in the game so far. (EoD's final and HT Strike) Like u said, the main game isn't that bad, it's juste average with good and bad moments and you named most of them. But this final... it just ruin everything :( At last they fixed it fast enough with even Living World Season 1 final (release one year latter and make available to replay like 2 years ago). Also a missing feature for me is the replay option. Every story content released after this can be replayed whenever you want on any character who done it before. But not the core story, so if u want to redo Fort Stalwar battle. the onlyu option is to redo all the sotry from the begening on a character who haven't it done allready :/

I actually fell asleep during my final battle (happened a couple weeks ago for me). I basically stopped playing the main story after claw island and then realized I needed the mastery point to get auto loot. You read that right. The only reason I finished the main story was to unlock auto loot. I think the main problem with having a character fight a world crushing boss is power creep. If you actually become powerful enough to defend the world single handedly... Then the rest of the gameplay shouldn't even make sense (when you go back to it). I'd also like to mention the fact that Peter Jackson used fhe same one shot Dragon death scene in the Hobbit to kill Smaug. So, maybe it's not that bad of a fantasy trope. Maybe it's classic.
