I think that "Jinx permission" is very symbolic and there is even goodwill gesture to Caitlyn in sense: "I took your mother but i'm giving you my sister." And it feel very sincere and convincing apology imho.

It's also a big step on Jinx's healing, recognizing Vi wouldn't replace her but instead build a new connection. She didn't leave because she chose Caitlin over herself (for Vi) but because she didn't want to interfere. Huge difference. She didn't just accept Caitlin, she finally saw that Vi wouldn't stop loving her for another. Her entire understanding of love changed for the better.

I think people truly misunderstands Vi's character and always expecting her to sacrifice the most. But we need to acknowledge that there should a boundary being drawn, she never made that in the past. We all became tired running for people we love but they run away. Somewhere in time we need to make a choice, to let them go, to stop and catch a breath. Sometime you need to live your life for yourself as well. I think it such a so called traditional or responsibility thing that elder one should always be blamed for everything. Don't get me wrong I love Jinx too, I have young sibling too, i love them so much, but in a way to take care of them we elders grew up too fast to quickly before even we realise.

It really does sometimes feel like a lot of the fandom expect Vi to give up her entire life and everything in it for Jinx, while never expecting Jinx to care about or give up a single thing for Vi in return Every decision Vi makes, which usually involve putting her sister first ahead of herself, they get mad at her and call her a bad sister. This one time Jinx makes a decision to put Vi's happiness first, they get mad at Vi and call her a bad sister I don't know that I've ever been as dedicated to anything in my entire life as they are to hating Vi and defending Jinx. It's almost impressive

@@aranthur Also i think they missed the point of Jinx's arc. The fact that Powder was way too young to understand the heaviness of death, (for detail she used to froze in stressed situation, did not froze in the bridge or while vander dies), she never understand the consequences of death or murders or actions cos no one was there to teach her until she lost Silco and bombed the council, the understanding of responsibility and consequences made her arc so interesting. I'm not saying that she is not traumatized, she is but there was lack of depth and meanings of those deaths. A lot talk about why she had to walk away or died, I personally don't think in practical sense there was any redemption arc left for her in Piltover, Vi would never let her go and she has nowhere to go, I don't think if Vi died, Caitlyn would've not forgiven Jinx ever (let be serious, Jinx attacked her 3-4 times, kidnaped her, threatened to kill her by her GF and killed her Mother 🙂), Cait left the Kiramman council chair for Zaun.

I really like the metaphor of Cait not just bringing Vi out of the cell this time but actually going INSIDE it with her Vi at this point is blaming herself for everything bad in her life, probably feeling like she deserves to be in that cell, deserves to be punished for all her mistakes. But that simple gesture from Caitlyn of joining her inside feels a bit like a "We committed this crime together. If it goes well, we share the praise, and if it goes poorly, we share the blame." It's not all on Vi, like Vander said, anymore. She can take off some of that weight she's been carrying on her shoulders for almost a decade now and let Cait help her carry it together

Show don’t tell. That’s the art of storytelling. I think that people nowadays are so used to communicate only via phone that they don’t get body language anymore… very sad. This scene is perfect.Vi deserves happiness for 1:37 minute.

I also noticed the color of season 1 cell scene and season 2. Season 1 is gray, cold and dark kind of highlighting VI's despair but season 2 has the sun and is light full of hope for Vi and Caitlyn and their relationship. Just something I noticed not sure if I'm reaching 😊

I didn't connect Silco's line about building our own prisons with Caitlyn opening up Vi's prison, which seems silly in hindsight because it's all in the same episode. Love the metaphors in this show. Great video!

Thank you for breaking it down for us! I think this scene was very beautiful and necessary for their story, even though many people seem to believe otherwise. Also, to me Vi's behavior wasn't necessarily insensitive to Jinx. Vi didn't intend/decide to have sex in the prison cell her sister was held hostage in, it just so happened, because in the moment when she thought she had lost everyone, Cait suddenly appeared and showed Vi that she trusted her by ultimately helping her freeing Jinx. In that moment Vi stopped thinking about where she was and what her sister was going to do, because she was just so overwhelmed with gratitude and relief and she had missed Caitlyn so much that she just went for the kiss. It was an outburst of emotion and given everything she had been through - I get it. It makes sense that she reacted that way.

I think people forget that this is an animated show that performs similarly to a book, and so, they don't "read" the show as a whole, they merely watch the episode, thus losing the symbolisms or foreshadowings or anything else that the show is trying to tell you without explicitly showing. The famous show, don't tell in books

From what i know... Vi is loyal to the bone, She will do what ever it takes for the ones she loves. And when Jinx locked her away it broke her heart. Then Cait shows up. At this point they havnt really talked in awhile And Vi is just in a very sorry place, Imagine the women you love walks through the door... Doesnt matter she broke it off with you, She's there with you... You have nothing left. you just kiss her, And that tells her everything she needs to know, that you love her. Vi acted out because at that moment she had nothing and Cait was all she had... And man i just fucked loved this love story. I hope done the animation line we get to see more of these people and this place.

It’s fascinating and a bit awkward to see how far they’ve come after just one season. But at the same time, it’s oddly relaxing. When there’s no Jinx between them, they can be together without any regrets. You’re really great at analyzing these kinds of details in the show, and oh god, don’t we all need these analyses? :D

I think that someone still blames Vi for not chasing after Jinx is a misconception. It seems like some people can't truly believe that Jinx actually doesn't "need" or "want" Vi's help---to be more specific, anyone's help. She's willing to break that cycle, no matter what it takes. Thus the song: let me go.. while people don't want to let Jinx go.(Not prop the k**l herself part, though.) On the other hand, Vi has to take the name of a big bad sister of not chasing after her... I think Vi could not grow on her own with the decision she made without burdening the past. The tighter she holds, the more she hurts. You see, circling around the issue of letting go. Also, We as audiences just somehow forget that they are two individuals and should take their own responsibilities and consequences separately. All that being said, it is still sad that sometimes we are forced to make choices that are not what we initially want to make. But here is the brutality of life, I suppose. After watching a few discussions, it actually makes me wonder: Can we really accept the characters that didn't grow as the way we think they should be? Or even remains the same person (or flaw) and not making much of the differences?

And about why Vi did not ask whether Jinx is feeling good or bad or whether she wants to live or not. VI KNEW! But she is not that kind of person that says such things. I mean, come on, did she even ask how Cati was holding up when she lost her mom? She hugs her out, same thing she did before Jinx locked her in...for the sake of Jenna! lol She is just...not so good with words, but more of an action pack of a person.

@@orbmagic she does prefer to hug it out. But of the two Vi both express more emotion, openly crying, and talks about her feelings way more. I would say it is something else that makes they both perfect for each other. They both have touch as a love language.

Agreed, it's not even an either or situation. If Vi thought Jinx was suicidal and still decided to stay with Cait first, she could have gone after Jinx later. But Vi never does search for Jinx because she thinks her sister betrayed her again, not that she's suicidal.

I like your analysis on Arcane, they are always on point and give us good reflection. Thanks for sharing them! Here are my (big) thoughts and first time writing about this marvellous show: Vi always sacrificed herself for her loved ones, since the first ep it was always her protecting others - except when she was in jail, of course - and Jinx on the other hand was always protected - in a way or another by Vi, Vander, Silco, Sevika and even Isha - although Isha was the first one that gave her that look on the protector role. So, this season they got their roles inverted, Vi was lost, like Jinx was before. Jinx had someone that made her feel like a better version of herself, Isha, and tried to bring Vi back to some sort of family they could have had - it failed, of course, 'cause like we can't control things bigger than us in our world, they also couldn't in theirs (hextech, Ambessa's plans - that were there since the beginning - and stuff). So both of then always stood in those roles, but it took someone else to come into their lives to give the realization that they could be so much more than that - not 'cause they are plain bad in the way they are, but 'cause they're human, they have possibilities, even if they can't change what happened prior. To Jinx, it was Isha at first, to Vi, it was Cait. They recognized themselves apart of those roles they created before... Even Silco, in Jinx's visions, said that "We build our own prisions... We inhabit these cells, these identities... and call then us" and that was simply a - masterpiece - way of saying that "we limit ourselves and breaking the cycle is getting to know ourselves outside these roles and labels". Of course, Jinx didn't got that at first 'cause she thinks that everything is her fault and breaking the cycle is about erasing herself, but again, this time it's Ekko that comes, and I do think he convinced her of all the potential she has outside of being a genius in a basement of crime - that is something everyone recognized in every dimension. I think Cait, on the other hand, understood that first. She says “hating you, I hated myself...” to Jinx when she tells her to do what she came to do - which Jinx thinks, again repeating behaviors, is offing her (and it wasn’t). Cait used to see the good in people, so she hated that role she putted herself in, she hated the person she became because of all that hatred, and she doesn’t want that anymore in her life, she was already unconfortable - and we can see that. By saying what she had to say and listening to Jinx saying that she didn’t know her mother was there, it was her freedom from that hatred. None of them will "erase their mistakes", like she said to Vi before, but they can change for better. It was like saying “What I did before was wrong, but I could not do that to you now, because you matter to someone that matters to me”. And Cait also got that, she didn’t do anything to Jinx because hurting Jinx she would hurt Vi and herself in the process, once again, like before. In the end, both Jinx and Cait agreed that they love Vi and choose to give her freedom to act in her own way about them. That cell brought them to apologize, to give second chances in life, to express their love and break the cycle. So it was "f***ing amazing" in every way possible.

Vi has been a godsent for STILL chasing after Jinx time and time again even after everything she did. Jinx just gut punched her and locked her in a prison cell (knowing she was locked up there for years btw) and Vi does not chase after people who leave her, we saw that when Cait did the same thing to her. Vi's first words to Jinx after she comes back are "looks like you shouldn't have come back" how much more in your faces does it need to be?? She thought Jinx tricked her and LEFT. Jinx just gave her blessings to Vi and released her of the responsibility of Jinx and Cait just told Vi with her actions that her love for Vi is bigger than her hate for Jinx. I get how easily biased the show can make you since we don't see Vi's 7 years of trauma and it shows Jinx's perspective more but cmon now yall need to put ur thinking caps on bcs Vi would not have done that with Cait, had she known. Breaking the cycle does not automatically men suicide, we quite literally see that it has another meaning when Jinx leaves in the air balloon, it would be crazy for Vi to automatically assume "oh shes gonna khs" because Vi has misunderstood her sister multiple times. I personally skipped the sex scene because I don’t like intimate scenes in any form of media but my first thought wasn’t “Vi go after you sister wtf” because Vi has 0 obligation to keep chasing after Jinx, SHE NEVER DID. Especially after Jinx just told her to stay away from her. Jinx acknowledged that she was putting Vi in an unfair and toxic position by trying to make her choose between her and Cait, yet the people who are still trying to be an obstacle are those saying that she should’ve went after Jinx. Vi didn’t betray anyone because Vi has been loyal to everyone else but herself. She has just as many reasons if not more than Jinx to lash out at the world but she’s kept her good heart like Vander told her to

I think the real cause of Vi and Powder/Jinx's suffering is Vender. He gave poor Vi too much responsibility, telling her to protect her family. And let's be realistic, Vi has never been able to be a guide because she too damn needs a guide and a shoulder to lean on. In this way Vi always lived in fear. Vender simply had to teach Vi some self-respect. it is a bitter lesson. but when you have had a past full of suffering and people who made you suffer, even if they are your family, the only thing to do is start from scratch.

@@la_ky i feel like they way he tried to teach vi responsibility back fired. When he said “it’s on you” I don’t think he intended for her to do things like attempt to give herself up to save her siblings. Or spend how ever many years blaming herself for her sister killing everyone. She already was a parentified child and Vandar’s specific way to teaching responsibility just added baggage. She was his chosen hair and he didn’t not want her to screw up the way he did. He gave her the advice he needed when he was younger. I am not saying he was a bad dad but i do think he made some mistakes in regard to how he raised Vi. And apparently didn’t do much if anything for powder.

Another well done essay my only critique it’s that Violet never truly rejected Powder. She stepped away to gather herself and when she saw Silco and his goons she attempted to run back down the alley to protect her sister. She was only ac short distance away she want planning to abandon Powder but she always felt she did after being locked away in Stillwater for so long.

CaitVi is the most beautiful and well built relationship I've ever seen on screens. How they first are clearly attracted physically, how they change each other subtly, the growing trust and closeness, how they showed their darkest side for each other and came together again rebuilt, and the ultimate act of full acceptance and love leading to their ultimate closeness. And you get their progression by the gestures, gaze, touch. Just so beautiful and deep in all levels.

It always seemed to me that the pink color of the line on the floor symbolizes Vi herself. Well, it's literally the color of her hair. Caitlyn crosses that line and it's symbolic in many ways: 1. An attempt to trust Vi. 2. Crossing your own barrier, a kind of exit into the real world. 3. Finally, the future love for Vi.

But what you forgot is they're telling the story of a human And in these dark moment we do this out of panic or in this case .. passion Because the one person she loved walk up to her in her darkest moment. This was Vi saying "I love you I need you" I'm yours forever. And that's what most people don't see. The human side of character stories.

Probably due to Jinx. Before that scene, we see Cait looking at the tunels(?) in the computer like thing then showing her holding a part of a grenade(I believe) that is clearly Jinx's. This means that Cait is trying to look for her and believing that she's alive. That scene in the fireplace is possibly her thinking about that possibility and taking Vi's sorrow for her sister as her own as well (which I assume that Vi is sorrowing the loss of her sister).
