The audacity of these people 😡 I can't understand that. In Poland , we also had this kind of "influencer" - a woman had her own show on TV, she performed in another one AND all that after being convicted and prison time. Nobody checked her story, and nobody questioned it until one man did as she said it was for being a brothel mama. So he was the only one who read all her files. Turned out that's not all, she was forcing other women to prostitution, torture them, and give death threats. Another one faked her carrier in Bollywood, and no one checked it - she was invited to TV regularly until one reporter exposed all her lies. He travelled even to India, seeking the truth.

Regarding the question why are these people (e.g., the three con artists) so present on social media and in the media, it has to do with their personality. They are drawn to attention as one of the characteristics of narcissistic personality disorder is grandiosity. These people need to be in the center of attention, they feed on it, they are often charismatic enough to attract people to them so that they can use them for whatever goal they have in mind, and they also lack self-reflection. Perfect combination for the spotlight offered by media and social media oriented mostly towards increasing views, irrespective of the ethics of the content they are encouraging or promoting. Algorithms favour this type of content.

Agree 100%. I think this is what the younger generation is witnessing as well, which is why they are so nonchalant about these types of celebrities. They've read about and, possibly, have been privy to the abhorrent behavior of criminals only to see them be forgotten about or rewarded for their terrible behavior. If we ( I say 'we' because we comprise society as well) didn't give them a platform to stand on or the laws were more strict and/or degrading (possibly facing the same kind of I'll treatment they inflicted on others?), they wouldn't be so glorified.

I think the profile you described at the end of the video, that some con artists makes great influencers by being able to disregard certain morals is similar to how high-achievers in society (politicians, ceo etc.) are. I used to think I would like to do it but after about three years of observation I’ve decided I DEFINITELY DO NOT want to do that as a career. I’d rather be quiet and boring TBH. I do understand in some ways why they glorify scam artists and criminals. In one way it’s a good message that you can make mistakes in the world but be rehabilitated and still go on to live a good life. On the other hand it is sending a message that if you have no morals and integrity you will go far. Which is problematic on a large scale. I love to watch this stuff too so I’m contributing to the popularity of it because I’m consuming it. Eeekkk. The statement ‘this would never happen if she was black’ is a very true reflection of the disparity of those born with race privilege.

He was like being rewarded for his bad behavior it felt like too. He was a light skin mixed man. But they definitely wouldn’t let a black person with an ankle monitor unless it was Oprah lol
@kianamoore53903 ай бұрын
I agree with the X user. For one, it is tacky to have that ankle monitor “out and proud”, and to be walking fashion shows and on national television shows. If that was a black person, or any other non-white person, it would be unacceptable and seen for what it really is-tacky and rewarding criminal behavior. People would be up in arms about letting a criminal on stage or walking or being allowed in “elite” or “upstanding” circles and environments. Certain rules seem not to apply to her because of the facade of her perceived privilege or pedigree. Any other non-white person wouldn’t even be given the chances she has, not to mention they certainly wouldn’t be laughing like “oh she’s so endearing and quirky” when she said what she said on DWTS. Any other person would have been vilified with think pieces about how they should have been grateful anyone even gave them a chance, let alone let them through the door. The phrase “the complexion for access and protection” comes to mind when thinking about her specific case. I will say that a lot of people have been speaking out about her, which is good. They didn’t wholeheartedly agree with the coverage she’s been getting and what that represents. People like her, Gypsy, Jen Shah and others are not people to look up to. It gives people image of if you have enough money, privilege, or proximity to certain people that you can do whatever and still be rewarded. It’s an abhorrent thing to project onto the masses

I don't think the mentioned industries (like fashion) give people opportunities because of talent, hard work etc. They're not about giving opportunities. They're about earning money by attracting attention. How do they attract attention? By inviting people who will be talked about to walk in their shows. It can be unusual facial features, a big backstory, already existing fame etc. Basically, everything can go (apart from actual modelling skills 😄) and it works. Huge companies aren't there to push socially responsible messages forward, ok, maybe sometimes, when it coincides with some socio-political trends of the moment. But fundamentally, big companies are always about harsh marketing 🤷♀ Regarding the question you put here at the end. Well, firstly, we aren't talking about criminals who were convicted for k*lling, r*pe etc. The crimes these people committed have more flexible lines between what's right and what's wrong, hence people will always be discussing that siding with or speaking against these influencers, and it creates more attention, more media coverage - more money. I always find social trends fascinating, thank you for bringing this up, Caitlin, you're doing a great job ❤

Regarding the "Best selling author" - I would neither buy her book or follow her on Instagram. Why reward bad behavior?

It is so sad. The woman is trash and she couldn’t even be gracious when she was the first person to leave DWTS. Not a surprise that she displayed her character which is not one that is a good person and someone who has a conscience and sense of humility. This is not the type of person to be influenced by or look up to. I felt bad for Tori Spelling who grew up affluent and child of influential parents. She was very appreciative for the experience however short.

In anna delvey's case, I think people love her because she didn't scam individuals, she scammed banks - huge profit machines. I personally think she's not a good person and shouldn't be celebrated. But I kind of understand why others love her.
