Fun fact: Red velvet is not a flavor. It's just chocolate cake mix with red food coloring. The culinary world has lied to us

Tay Burrows I mean commercially this is how it is done nowadays but traditionally the reason it was called red velvet was because in the original recipes because of the vinegar and buttermilk(both acidic) that would be added. These would react with the athocyanins in the cocoa bringing out a red colour (athocyanins turn red in the presence of acids). Also the acidic liquid would react with the baking soda in the cake to make it bubble up and fluff the cake giving it a light smooth "velvety" texture. So that is why it was originally called red velvet

Red velvet cake has a lot less cocoa powder in it as compared to a chocolate cake. Red velvet also has vinegar and buttermilk in it, which creates a chemical reaction with the cocoa powder that makes it slightly red in color (more red is added through food dye). This reaction causes the cake to be light and fluffy 😊

After graduating high school, I made cookies for the rest of the school using cake mix. So many boxes...but I've been making these for years and I love coming up with new ones, like cinnamon roll cookies or strawberry or "ying yang chocolate chip" cookies ❤️ it's fun to experiment with different cake mixes and add ins and rolling in sugar mixtures or glazing them 😊

@@JinxD247 so mine weren’t swirled like a cinnamon roll, but I did yellow cake mix, and added a bunch of cinnamon and mixed it in before adding the eggs and oil (if you try to add it after the wet ingredients it won’t mix in evenly) then I baked them like normal and when the cookies were cool I flipped them and dunked the top into a glaze made of powdered sugar and milk. Let the glaze set and it basically tasted like a cinnamon roll. This comment is a throwback, but I still love making new kinds of cake mix cookies, it’s an easy way to experiment in the kitchen. Just made some chocolate cookies with mini m&m’s in them for Christmas!

Just fyi if anyone wants to actually try this, if a recipe calls for oil (except for olive oil) u can always replace it with apple sauce. It's a much better option and it honestly doesn't change texture or taste of anything😊

The lemon cookie was a great idea! We don't have any lemon cake mixes here (we don't have strawberry cake mixes here, either), so using yellow cake mix + lemon extract, the idea made me happy! Thank you so much! I'll keep in mind that I'll add lots of lemon extract. :)

I didn't know buzzfeed had cake mix cookie recipes. I made my own cookie recipe using cake mix, I basically just made the cake batter as normal and added cake flour. They're more cakey, but that was my *intention,* because I was going for something between cake and a cookie, and that's what I got. I like to put a glaze on them, but eating them plain or with frosting is good too.

PSA FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO TRY THIS!!! you can also combine these recipes with the soda cake! For example; substitute eggs and oil for 6-7 oz of soda water or any soda for that matter! I did the Oreo cookies from this video and the orange cookies from the soda cake video and they were AMAZING!!

you can still get sunburned when it's not sunny or if it's cold or overcast because while the sunlight might be blocked or it might feel cooler, the actual rays which cause sunburns (UV rays) are not blocked and so you can still get sunburned. at least i think, i remember hearing this somewhere and it makes sense and fits the situation, idk for sure tho. the sun shan't defeat us!

Maybe use parchment paper next time. I always use it for cookie trays when I’m making cookies. I tried using butter instead of oil and regretted it for the red velvet. I also didn’t care for the strawberry recipe so I omitted stuff. Used plain strawberry mix and & white chocolate chips for some and dark chocolate chips for some. The dark was my favorite combo.
