The best CHOCOLATE SHEET CAKE I've ever had

This chocolate sheet cake is super rich & moist, yet simple and easy to make. Made up of a soft, decadent chocolate cake that is packed with chocolate flavor and topped with a ridiculously good (yet easy to make) chocolate fudge frosting, I guarantee this chocolate sheet cake will become a family favorite!

INGREDIENTS:
🔹Chocolate Cake
▢1¾ cups (210 g) all purpose flour
▢¾ cup (75 g) cocoa powder - Dutch processed preferred
▢2 tsp baking powder
▢1 tsp baking soda
▢1 tsp salt - only use 1/2 tsp if using salted butter in this recipe
▢1 cup (200 g) soft light brown sugar
▢1 cup (200 g) white granulated sugar
▢¾ cup (180 g) milk - room temperature, whole milk
▢¼ cup (56 g) unsalted butter - melted
▢½ cup (105 g) unflavored vegetable oil - I use canola oil
▢2 large eggs - room temperature
▢2½ tsps vanilla extract/essence
▢¾ cup (180 g) strong hot coffee - I use 1 tbsp instant coffee powder in 180g (¾ cup) hot water, but you can use espresso as well.
🔹Chocolate Fudge Frosting
▢½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter
▢⅔ cup (66 g) cocoa powder - Dutch processed preferred
▢2½ cups (315 g) powdered sugar - also known as icing/confectioners sugar
▢⅓ cup (80 g) milk - room temperature, whole milk
▢1½ tsps vanilla
▢⅛ tsp salt - omit if using salted butter, though I do recommend using unsalted 🙂

I made this chocolate cake without oven in a pot and it turned out super yummy, the only thing I changed in the recipe was that I added a bit less sugar(both brown and white) and to balance it out I added a bit more of flour. That way the dry ingredients remained the exact amount.

I made this recipe last Sunday for my hubby’s birthday and everyone LOVED IT. The frosting to cake ratio is perfect and it’s just sweet enough. Your recipes are incredibly solid. This won’t be the first of the last cake I’ll bake from you!!! Question: what would happen if one was to a, replace the water for the strong coffee with milk and bloomed the cacao in the hot milk too and/or b, replaced the milk in the batter with something like sour cream or yogurt? Moister but more denser cake?

This chocolate sheet cake is definitely the best I've eaten. It's packed with flavor, it's super moist and so easy to make. I'm not overly fond of frosting but this was delicious. I could not believe that I didn't need a mixer, I only used a whisk for the cake batter.

Great video MK! There will be people who will say this is not a sheet cake because it was not made on a cookie sheet', but I bet you could bake it on a cookie sheet. Just a small suggestion. Can you please give receipes that make things in small batches because a cake of this size is too big for my small family. Can you cut all ingredients by half ? Will that be an accurate recipe for a cake half the original size?

It looks gorgeous & easy to make. I want to bake this for my toddler & I cannot put coffee inside. What is the substitute for coffee powder? Besides, if i want to make a less sweet version of it, how many % of sugar can i reduce? U are a cake master that I admire much. Can u please help us to come up with a video on how to make a less sweet cakes, % of sugar that we can reduce & when we reduce it, is there anything that we can do to make the cake remain moist.. i notice that everytime i reduce the sugar, the cakes turned out being little bit dry. Thanks so much! And great question :D so usually chocolate cakes are already quite soft and moist (mostly due to the hot water thats used to bloom the cocoa and thin out the batter), so adding in cornstarch can make it a bit too soft and the structure of the cake may be compromised :)

I would suggest using the dark brown sugar but using half of what is called for for the light and substitute the other half with white. Happy baking🤍
