I presume we're referring to another TI game? Because both Wolf and Doom had chainguns. AND the same idle-walk, at least in pretty sure Doom did... I know for sure it did that when you died and they just walked in place. I would assume they're have recycled that code (on PC) for just standing still while you're alive, too.

in high school,a buddy and I were making Link's Awakening for the ti-83😂 We didnt get very far, but the graphics were nearly identical. I think we mapped out the opening village, but lost interest due to the tedious nature of doing such a thing

The mirageOS is a throwback to something I had completely forgotten existed. I used to be really into my TI84, and basically learned to spaghetticode in basic on that thing during math class. I still have my heavily used and abused ti84 somewhere, with now-ancient beta versions of mirageOS and the TI firmware on there.

There was a really nice RPG way back in the day, very well made in assembly with a foreground graphics layer. I hope whoever made that went on to a good career. I'm 99% sure it was Joltima, made for a few of the TI calcs.

Oh hey, this is something that I'm somewhat of an expert on. While I never made any games, i certainly tried, and know way too much about the low level hardware of TI83+ and its variants as a result. A fun fact for you: these calculators used a standard (but rare) 2.5mm audio jack to both connect to the PC or another calculator. While you could easily plug in a pair of headphones or earbuds into this jack, the calculators do not have any audio circuitry. You can still "Play" music or sound effects though, but that requires the CPU to bit bang out a 1 bit signal on the IO port.

D3d-2g is me! And dan niezgocki met online back in the day and put that little "tech demo" together. It was an experiment with basic+asm. Good old days. I actually fired up all my calcs yesterday to test them out and make sure theyre still working. My 83 and 85 are having lines in the lcd so imma check that out. Currently building a win98 comp to bring back the old days. Good luck, ti gaming is a golden era that needs to be preserved just like the nes, gba, etc. Those you chose were some of the best dooms, they were extremely impressive for the time.

🤔 Wonder if anyone has made a NAND mod for them... or microSD is nothing rise, to do away with the stupid volatile storage. At least, I'm _assuming_ the 83+ still needs the button cell to retain anything programed in it like the TI-86 needed... That would solve that unfortunate downside. I still have my 86 from junior high (so, 96 or 97), but I'm almost positive all the games on it have vanished since the last time I MIGHT'VE replaced that battery would've been ~2010ish. I had Bomberman on it and that game had some amazing graphics, and ran butter smooth. Was multilayer as well!

Just an FYI, I got a bunch of games to work on Ti-83s, and also Ti-89s back in the day. ON the Ti-89, I had a 3d doom-like shooter that could handle continuous movement. For reference it was a single map, but you could face off with a single enemy (or a buddy with another calculator!) and there were grayscale textures too.

Most middle schools between 2010s-2016 would give you ti-84+, ti-voyage, or inspire depending on what classes you were taking. I never know that the ti series went below 84. 0:27 These calculator come with a ton of accessories. Include keyboards and speakers and even a link port over USB. These products were used to get kids in to programming

I feel like at it's core, Doom is supposed to be snappy and well-controlled. We got Wolfenstein, which all things considered is "close enough," and we even got one with the "look at the enemies dance on your corpse" screen, which is neat. On a side note, TI-83 games don't get much better than Sokoban. It's hard to mess up sokoban - it's possible, but rare. You push a block in a spot, nothing needs animation.

In 90s NSW we got Casio calculators, they weren't free but they were heavily subsidised, once a year schools would send out order forms for them, you could get a model that had a $300 retail price for $80, now schools "require" students to have iPads, but they aren't subsidised at all.

when the screen got darker think you might have engaged the shortcut to adjust contrast whenever you are using the calculator. while youre holding 2nd press up over and over or press down over and over. in the main screen itll say the number setting in the top left

That third one seems to be more based on Wolfenstein 3D than Doom. The pistol looks exactly like the one from Wolf3D, and potted plants seem more like they'd be a prop in Wolfenstein 3D than Doom. I think the enemy sprites are also based on the enemies from Wolfenstein 3D, though that's harder to tell. ZDoom (not to be confused with the source port on PC) is the closest to Doom out of all of these, even having the camera fall down to the ground when you die, though it's still more like Wolfenstein 3D than Doom due to the levels being done in a blocky raycaster instead of sectors with height variation (I don't know if that can be done on a calculator, though). Though, creating a functional FPS game on a calculator is still pretty cool.
