Colossians 2:16-17 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. I've done a solid exposition of Colossians 2:16-17 here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/favVaoOKfraXmKs - Also here is my video on whether Christ abolished the law kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZOaoKGilsiqa80

As for your Colossians 2:16 argument “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:” - The "Sabbath Days" referred to here are the holiday Sabbaths. hence the talk of food and festival.. put it in context.. here is an example. " Firstfruits and Weeks are determined by day of the week; they will never be observed on a weekly Sabbath."..In addition there is a Sabbath year. Leviticus 25 (NKJV) 1 And the LORD spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When you come into the land which I give you, then the land shall keep a sabbath to the LORD. 3 Six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard, and gather its fruit; 4 but in the seventh year there shall be a sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a sabbath to the LORD.

I think you really need to revisit the book of Matthew, pay special attention to Matthew 5:19 “Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and SHALL TEACH MEN SO, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

I dont keep the sabbath, The Sabbath keeps me. Jesus is my rest. I am fully convinced in my own mind which day I honour. Romans 14, Colossians 2v16-23. I dont judge another on which day they choose to esteem. And I dont let them judge me on that same basis. Anyone who judges another according to the law is a lawbreaker themselves. Why is it ‘work-based Gospel’, rather than just keeping the Law as it was given to us in the Ten Commandments? Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath, but did not come to abolish the Law or the Sabbath. It would be work-based salvation and a false doctrine to suggest that being born again (or our salvation) can only happen if we did the works, rather than receiving them through Grace. Whether one believes in the possibility of losing salvation and our names blotted out of the Book of Life despite once having the Holy Spirit, it should still be accepted that not following the Law has consequences and it will affect receiving heavenly rewards. Of course, there is support for the position in the Bible that people can walk away from the faith and without repentance, they can become apostates.

Not a SDA. And I agree we are not Justified by the works of the law. But are saved by grace through faith. When the religious leaders told Jesus that Abraham was their father. Jesus replied, If Abraham was your father you would do the works of Abraham. Jesus also said, why do you say you love me and do not what I say? And again the one who hears his word and does it, has dug deep and built his house on the rock and when the storm comes that house stands, be he who hears and does not do his word has built their house in the sand. And when the storm comes it falls. He also told us that when he judges the nations, he will put the goats on his left side and the sheep on the right. The sheep were doers of his word, they fed the hungry, clothed the naked, visited the sick, ect. The goats were not doers of the word, and did not the works of faith ( faith works by love) So what kind of faith was the faith God excepted with Abraham? He heard God tell him to go, and he obeyed and went! He told him to sacrifice his son, and he took his son to the altar to sacrifice him! This is what James was saying when he told us faith if it does not have works is dead. To sum up, If you do not do what you confess you believe, Then you do not believe what you confess! Don’t be deceived! The devils believe that Jesus is the Christ, their faith alone will not save them! Works of the law cannot save you, but being a doer of the word is true saving faith!

Just a few truths… The Bible does state that the sabbath was instituted for national Israel (Exodus 31:12-18) (And there was no keeping of the sabbath prior to the exodus). Moses' indication to Israel in Deuteronomy 5:15 that God had commanded observance of the seventh-day Sabbath as a memorial of Israel being delivered from its prior slavery in Egypt would seem to indicate that it had not been observed prior to that time. Of the 10 commandments, nine of them are moral laws with the sabbath being a ceremonial law. Even if we are to keep the Sabbath holy, we still do this today because every day is made holy in Christ. I also believe that we rest on the sabbath because our sabbath rest is found in Christ (Heb ch 7) Colossians 2:16 talks about not having to keep days or Sabbath‘s. Some will say that that speaks about certain Sabbaths, but the fact that it mentions other days and ceremonies as well makes it clear that it is talking about the sabbath. Romans 14 also says that some choose to keep one day more holy than others, and that they are allowed to, but we should make no distinction between days and that he hopes those that do keep certain days holy will receive their full freedom in Christ by recognising that all days are the same. Also at the council of Jerusalem we see this was a place where it was discussed which old Testament laws the Christians would have to uphold. The sabbath is conspicuously absent in this very important council. The sabbath is the only commandment in the new Testament which is never mentioned. Many people say that the apostles worshipped on the sabbath, but this is not true. The verses they use is where they were actually in the synagogues on the sabbath and it says that this was because they were reasoning with the Jews to persuade them to follow Christ. There are actually verses which say that the apostles broke bread on the Sunday and collected the offerings on the Sunday. This highlights Sunday worship, although I personally don’t think it matters on which day we do. The sabbath was a foretaste of the rest that we now have in Christ!

The Sabbath was made for _man_ , according to Jesus. If only ethnic Israelites are considered "man" by Jesus, then the rest of us have a major problem. Paul clarifies that there is now no distinction between the ethnic Israelites and the Gentile races insofar as who belongs to the Olive Tree, the Israel of God; the only requirement being faith in Jesus Christ as the Savior. We have no record of any abrogation of the 4th commandment in scripture. Consider it a test to see who will adhere to God's last word on the matter when the Papacy enforces Sunday. We were told to "remember" it.

Jesus is our Sabbath. “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ” (Colossians 2:16-17). Jesus is our “Sabbath.” Jesus’ death on the cross and His resurrection from the dead “fulfilled” everything in the OT law. The OT law was “the shadow.” We are no longer under the shadow, but under the Substance=Jesus. Since Jesus fulfilled the OT law and covenant, why return to the weak and beggarly elements of the OT Law? (Galatians 4:9) The word, “fulfilled” holds the meaning: complete/finished/through. If something is complete and finished, then nothing more is needed; you are through. You cease from works. Therefore, the people of God are no longer under the shadow but of the substance. Jesus is that substance. Therefore, Jesus is the Sabbath and that is under the New Covenant (The New Testament). If you’re still under the OT law, then you are under the “curse of the law.” This is clearly understood in James: "Whoever keeps the whole Law but fails in one point of it is guilty of all of it." (James 2:10). Keep in mind, the OT law concerning the old covenant provided forgiveness of sins from God through the blood sacrifice of animals. Sins were not removed, but only "covered" until the day of final redemption. Our redemption came through Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection.

The biggest problem that people overlook, with the boasting of good works, you create a barrier to those who still need to hear the Gospel. Almost every unsaved person I encounter, believe they have to be good, to go to church, be good to be saved, to do the work of overcoming theor own sin, before coming to Christ. These beliefs are compounded by people like Greg. Greg says if you become a Christian (and even to become a Christian) one must keep the sabbath. even though that 1 transgression of any commandment is worthy of death. Every SDA, once converted becomes a liar when they proclaim Ellen White to be a prophet. So after 1 trip to an SDA assembly on a Saturday, if you are not saved, and do not return, you are eternally damned. If you are saved but become a liar, you are eternally damned. Work 7 days a week to raise your family? Become an SDA and you might have to go without, or become homeless. Doug will happily tell you of his time in the forest to reassure you you don't need his $700 suits..... Now Paul will come to a man who works 7 days a week and reassure the man his salvation is secure, even if he continues at work 7 days a week. Paul would reassure the man, that if he died before conquering his addictions, he'd still be washed in the blood of Christ and be resurrected into the perfection of Christ. Paul called himself the "Chieftest of sinners" yet it was he whom Christ chose to spread the Gospel to us gentiles.

It's impossible to keep the Sabbath as prescribed in the old testament as there is no longer a temple. Why does it matter if there's no temple? Well, even on the Sabbath there was required sacrifice. No temple no sacrifice. Numbers 28:9-10: "On the Sabbath day, two male lambs a year old without blemish, and two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour for a grain offering, mixed with oil, and its drink offering: this is the burnt offering of every Sabbath, besides the regular burnt offering and its drink offering." This shiws that, in addition to the regular daily offerings, specific sacrifices were commanded for the Sabbath to honor the day of rest in accordance with God's law. Also these sacrifices were only done by the priesthood who was a specific tribe of Israel. So the majority of people in the world wouldn't be allowed to sacrifice. So thank God Jesus fulfilled all the law and faith in him is the only requirement now for salvation. Or cling to the law and fulfill it perfectly on your own. Paul goes into this repeatedly in his letters.

He doesn't mean Saturday is the Sabbath _because he's a Seventh Day Adventist_ . He means that it's Saturday because it's the 7th day of the week, not the 1st, _according to God_ as recorded in the Bible. It's the same as intentionally and routinely breaking any of the other 9 commandments: It's willful sin. He's not preaching a _works-based gospel_ . He's preaching a faith-based gospel. If one continues to sin willfully, it reflects an unrepentant heart, which is an indication of a lack of genuine, saving faith and a concomitant absence of the Holy Spirit. It's not the sin or the lack of good works that get one lost. It's the _lack of faith_ that _leads to willful sin or the absence of good works_ that does it.

We should be careful when forming an argument around one scripture, but there is one verse that destroys the SDA heresy just by itself: Romans 14:5 "One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Christ did not violate the Sabbath. First of all, the account clearly shows Him violating the rules of the religious elites, and also taking the time to explain how His actions were completely aligned with the Law. Secondly, Hebrews says Christ never sinned. The claim that He violated the Sabbath amounts to saying Jesus is no the Messiah, and that the Orthodox Jews have always been right about Him being a false prophet. It's blasphemy.

You abide in the Lord by breaking His Sabbath? How can you abide in Him while in open and willful sin? Gathering grain on the Sabbath was not breaking it per Jesus, but per your incorrect interpretation and the Sanhedrin. Go back and STUDY Luke 6 in it's correct **context**----Verses 1-10. To address your other remarks about healing the sick and blind: In Mark 3:4, we read the following "And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace." The story in John 5:18 is about healing. It is lawful to do good, meaning Jesus did NOT break the Sabbath according to God, because Jesus did the Father's will only and doing good on the Sabbath is NOT sin, if Jesus sinned, he cannot be the, "lamb without blemish and without spot:" In 1 Peter 1:19 . The Pharisees accused him of breaking their burdensome rules of what they thought was breaking the Sabbath, not what God had asked and not what Jesus was doing, which was magnifying the law and making it honourable (Is. 42:21). To magnify the law and make it honourable means to desire mercy, not sacrifice. If you read how Jesus kept the Sabbath, not the burdens that the Pharisees placed on others that were not in Exodus 20:8-11, and then accused anyone of not following their additional law keeping as breaking the Sabbath, you would know why John wrote that in 5:18, you can also see this in Luke 14:3-6. Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and a Lawyer (expert of the Mosaic law) for not having mercy and doing good in Luke 11:37-46 (pay special attention to verse 46 because Jesus is telling them they have no mercy for others), in other words Jesus explains to them a proper understanding and practice of keeping the Sabbath. Read Isaiah 58, Jesus kept the Sabbath according to Isaiah 58, as he said I desire MERCY, not sacrifice in Hosea 6:6, Matt 9:13; 12:7. You can find the conclusion of the context of John 5:18 two chapters later in John 7:19-24 where Jesus tells them, in 22-23, "If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day? Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment." Notice he was speaking about the healed man back in John 5 and people should not judge based on appearance but "righteous judgment" and that word righteous (δίκαιος) means **RIGHT DOING** character or **action**. So Jesus demonstrates that mercy which is action is the right thing to do and is NOT breaking the Sabbath as the Sanhedrin would like you to think it is. The sad part is that you actually agree with the Sanhedrin on their definition of what Sabbath breaking was and is, but Jesus told them and the Bible is very clear when you study it, that your idea of the Sabbath is wrong. Study Isaiah 58 carefully, Jesus kept the Sabbath according to Isaiah 58 and it is our example of how we are to follow Him in doing the same.

Every commandment that is broken deliberately without repentance and forgiveness is accountable to the person that does the sin. So if you know the truth and deliberately break the commandment then you’re guilty. Most Catholic sabbath keepers (Sunday) are unaware of the problem even though if they actually read the commandment and looked at the Calendar they might make the mental connection. After all Sunday is always the first day and Saturday is always the seventh, but habit, custom and not being taught those things by the Catholic Denominations (Sunday worship services).

You should tell your job/company/boss you're available seven days a week if that's the case, after all you have the Holy Ghost no need to physically rest, per your hermeneutic.

So if we don't lie or worship idols we are keeping the 10 Commandments, but if we do keep the Sabbath, which is also one of the 10 Commandments, we are cursed. I am not sda, but a born again believer who keeps Sabbath because Christ and the Apostles kept it to. Remember we are wild olive branches who are grafted in.

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. Matthew 22:36-40 Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. There are two categories that Jesus laid out. The first four of the Ten Commandments is mainly about loving the Father. The other six are about loving our neighbor. Jesus simplified his Father’s Ten Commandments by breaking them down into two categories. Abraham kept God’s commandments. Genesis 26:5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. Hebrews 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people… VERSE 11 says that they shall (not) teach because all shall KNOW the Lord. How do we know God? 1st John 2:3,4 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keep not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. God may have moved on from the Jews, but he still regards his people as Israel. Galatians 3:29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. What does God require from his people in the last days. Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that (do) his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. Romans 2:11-13 For there is no respect of persons with God. For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the (doers) of the law shall be justified. Ecclesiastes 12:13,14 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

The easiest way (I found it to be anyway) to make this clear when facing people that teach faith+works, is to start with the famous ephesians 2, 8-10. Just point out how the context explains what it says. It's clear that nobody is saved or not saved because of what they do, but then we are told we are to do good works. The easy way is this: Explain the difference between works to earn salvation and good works as a fruit of your salvation. Those two are not the same. Easy. Sanctification has nothing to do with salvation. And the kicker is that it never ever was. I once wrote a paper about the time israel was wandering in the desert that addressed among other things how they were saved back then, and how their worship of God was. No human has ever lived up to the law. Not then, not later and not now. It's just that they had a different means of getting their forgiveness. It was organized forgiveness by sacrifice.

We are not under the law so that we are required to observe the Sabbath. However the idea that God has set apart the Sabbath as a day of rest comes before the law, and even though it is not required, I think it is a good idea to emulate God and take a weekly day of rest for your spiritual/mental/physical health.

I honestly don't know how to keep the Sabbath. Is Church enough? Church didn't exist during Moses' time, so he didn't go to Church. Do I have to not work? So no cooking or cleaning, or just not earning money? If I drive, am I breaking it, or only if I walk too far? I am not Jewish, so I eat pigs. Is that going to condemn me as well, or do I only have to keep Jewish laws about the Sabbath but not the pigs?

The Israelites in Moses' day had the tabernacle. Lev. 23 even shows God saying that _all_ of His commanded festivals, weekly and annual, were commanded assemblies. That is not up for debate, nor is it negotiable. All of God's ppl, wherever they may be, are to assemble together for these festivals. God did not create 2 moral standards based on someone's physical ethnicity. There is only 1 fixed, universal law. That is what makes Him a just God.

@@theeternalsbeliever1779 so all we have to do is assemble? What about the cooking thing? Or the walking thing? How long do we assemble? How close must the assembly be so as to not walk to far? And I'm being serious about not knowing how to keep the Sabbath. I've heard many ways that are not compatible. Further more, Leviticus applied to the children of Jacob. I am not a member of that people. I was grafted into Abraham's line, a generation before Jacob. This is according to Paul. Now if you want me to void the teachings of Paul, then I'll just be willing to take my chances following two thousand years of other Christians and be ok with Sundays
