One problematic credit card payment history did not cause his credit score to dip to 539. He's so dishonest. He's not paying the half he still owes on that house and he never will. He's always bailed out and taken care of. The wife is no better. She's home all day but cant cook, so all this money is flying out the door on fast food. This is what spoiled, rich people look like. 😂 my dream as a child was to take ballet. My mom bought me tap shoes (I think kohls) and I admit, I was upset…but I used those tap shoes for years!! Never had classes so I was awful but she never told me to be quiet while I was tapping awfully in the kitchen lmao. People need to learn to appreciate what parents CAN do for them. Holy balls, this was probably the most complex financial situation in awhile, my head hurts. It literally made me chuckle when he's like "I voluntarily chose to be laid off because I have a cousin with a company offering me a Director position with more pay, except I voluntarily chose to be laid off before finding out I'm not qualified, so I'm going to be a real estate agent instead with no guaranteed income." And you know when it comes to layoffs, CEOs tend to layoff to keep their bonuses and salaries the same, so stop acting like it's a hard choice for them.

Just for grins and giggles at the grocery store yesterday I priced some organic milk compared to just regular milk. The organic milk was $6.29 for a HALF gallon; regular milk was $2.29 for a half gallon. I wanted to buy some to see what it tastes like. He likely won't take ANY advice let alone KID advice. You seem to have forgotten to remind him that those 401k loan terms usually require immediate re-payment upon the loss of employment. Failing to repay causes them to report the outstanding amount as a non-qualified distribution which is subject to tax penalty if you are below retirement age.

It blows my mind as well. Doesn't seem like a good deal for anyone but DD. I was a pizza delivery guy in the late 90s, I averaged about $10/hr while the company only charged $1 for delivery and that chain is still around today. Seems like now days it's $5+ for delivery without tip and the drivers are lucky to make that much (adjusted for inflation) in most areas.

@@wtice4632 my main point is the fact that he's spending a ton of money on special milk and justifies this supply as "kids need protein". 1g per oz is a nice, but small, addition to a daily diet, it is hardly something to insist your children need to consume regularly. I don't think milk protein is bad, just think the guy in the video (whose name escapes me) is grasping at straws to justify a very dumb purchase. Buy the normal milk from the store, they have fancy stuff available at trader Joe's and similar stores, i'm sure. All of this milk talk makes me want chocolate milk

I think a big thing you missed here is when he becomes a RE agent, he is going to have to start paying his own health insurance for a family of 6. I'm sure his company paid a decent portion of his health insurance. It wont be cheap for a good plan. I hope this guy has life insurance as well. He seems like a nice guy, but 4 kids, 1 income. If he croaks, he is leaving his family in a terrible spot.

Getting out of the house to do stuff with his kids does NOT have to cost money!! My dad was very poor when I was a kid and he was homeless and sometimes lived at camp sites for weeks on end or his car I saw him only on Sundays. Sometimes we went to the mall but when money got extra tight we played tennis, basketball, volleyball, soccer, with equipment that was years old and got a low cost lunch. Taking your kids out does not mean these fancy Brunswick zones, batting cages, expensive dinners and movies etc that can cost hundreds of dollars for a few hours. Your kids don't care what they are doing as long as it's with their Dad!! They care WHO they are with not WHAT they are doing.

I've known more parents than I should who are Exactly like this. I love content like this that are about seemingly put-together working professionals and their financial mistakes. I think its way more interesting and relatable than the ones with young 21 year olds who are drifting around aimlessly or the ones with people who don't have the capacity to make good financial decisions in the first place. Like yeah, literally everything they do is wrong, but I wasn't thinking of buying all of my fourth cousins a car with a credit score of 362 in the first place, so I'm not learning very much. But guys like this who everyone expects to have their shit together, and actually have the capacity to have their shit together, but absolutely do not due to mostly their own decisions are just fascinating to watch and learn from.

MEEHHHH I kinda agree with this, mostly feel like these are mistakes that anyone in his position who didn't get loans would NOT make cause they have common knowledge. This individual seems to lack expertise in this area. I reckon a 21 year old who sucks at making financial decisions is the equivalent to this guy, but they don't have grandparents who can bail them out or give them money. I've been the broke teen, and now I'm a well established individual on my way to a 6 figure salary not in debt, (not including my house which will be mine soon). So I agree with you, but honestly this is more of a niche video. BUT, not something I learned as much from as the other videos which include broke young folks or people carrying others expenses.

And then the thing with the accounts "money is put into her account to be spent, money put in my account can be saved" he kind of pins it on his wife that she spends a lot on crap, but he controls the finances and saves nothing.

Erm, you're seeing all those comments with the most negative meanings... and I think a more generous view can be taken -"I agree let's do it" and "I struggle with spending money on therapy" can both be true at the same time, human beings are complicated creatures with conflicting urges. -"money in her account to be spent, in my account can be saved" is something they could have decided as a couple, it might not say anything about their individual habits. Like I for example decide to role-divide with my own wife as to how our accounts are to be used in our household, so I can totally see this kind of split happening for me as a household decision. -He's not averse to blaming himself, but I don't think he really cares about who is to blame anyways, focusing on blame isn't Christian.

The excuses for having to go out to eat constantly always make me laugh. I spent $25 at Target a few years ago and got my kids a thermos each. If we are out of the house during lunch or dinner time, I warm up left overs and they eat from their thermos. I have a small cooler bag that I put a salad in for me and whatever my husband wants. Now that it's summer we are at the pool alot. We bring food and drinks there too. Going out to eat 4-5 times for our family of 4 a month is probably the same as what I spend on groceries for the entire month.

Going to school part time seems to be a lot more common these days. My nephew does that. Makes sense to me, he gets the social interaction and fundamentals covered, but can focus on more individual stuff at home than could in large group setting

My brother did this! I think it’s a great option. He got the social interaction and some structure, and then my mom (a very strict asian tiger parent) got to make sure he was staying on top of his education. It also allowed him more time for sports and exploration while he was home. I was full time homeschooled, and while I did get a very rigorous education (better than my brother’s), I would have loved more social time and getting a break from my strict mom.

So many free fun family things they can do. I hate when people use kids as an excuses for BS spending. This is why therapy, as Caleb always suggests, is crucial. Guests need to understand the emotions and fears behind the spending. Parents can't be afraid to have deep and really difficult conversations to get to the heart of the real issue. Any healthy church would emphasize giving of your “time, gifts, talents and possessions” I have had many seasons in life when what I had to offer was my self, not money- outside of a few dollars. That is how you serve, with what you have. I hope he reads this. That being said, $1,800 for “wants” a month is not a hard spot. So yeah, give money if that’s easier than time. To be fair, being laid off was a massive financial win for this guy. He gets two more months to work plus a $10k bonus for staying, then he gets a full five months severance and nearly full benefits for five months. He has enough time once his job ends to spend three months trying to make real estate work and then if that fails he STILL has two more months to find another tech job before he even spends a day not getting paid or having healthcare. If he just takes a normal job in mid May he’s walking away with like $50,000 in free cash. Being laid off can be a big win.

If your home is run like that (SAHM is the CFO, working dad), they still need to have monthly meetings, like a business meeting, to go over the state of finances, the budget, and figure out whether leaks exist and plan to plug them.

I'm a sahm and my husband takes care of the budget, bills and filing. I am only involved as much or as little I have to will to do. But we have MANY small children so I don't do much of anything more than child care, cooking cleaning and grocery shopping because it isn't possible. In this point in our life. Right now I'm watching with an earbud at my 3 yo's sickbed. This is my me time lol

So he’s the one making all of the calls for spending and she doesn’t have a real idea of all of their financial problems. I got into real estate at 24 (27 now). I had $30k and no family when I switched to it. It took me 3 mo’s to sell a house. You need that emergency fund to actually give it a chance.

@@globalphenomena6979 there are programs called cow shares to allow people to own a portion and get around laws that prohibit raw milk sales. Some states do not allow people to sell milk, but they can’t prevent you from drinking milk from “your own” animal

It doesn't matter if you leave voluntarily or you are terminated. You have to pay back the 401(k) loan in full. Under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) passed in 2017, 401(k) loan borrowers have until the due date of your tax return to pay it back. Prior to this, loan borrowers had 60 days to pay it back.

It may be connected to their church community...which he seems to be donating $12k a year. They didn't mention extras like uniforms or supply fees. Certainly a large chunk of their finances but also potentially important to their family values. (also not discussed were the kids ages and how much it will cost when the others start schooling since it seemed like 2/4 so far). Fully homeschooling does not have to be expensive but given the patterns presented they would probably spend that much or more on materials, curriculum and tutoring/classes.

We homeschool our kids but use a program for materials, lesson plans, and grading. This enables them to have a real transcript if they ever want to go to High School / College. Our kids are little still and only 2 are in school, but that costs about $2k per year. Homeschooling isn't really free.

The only part I find frustrating is someone who doesn’t even pay rent or their own mortgage is passionate about Real Estate and “ready” to get into it… I really feel like you need to be in a financial position where you are thriving before you start taking out investment property loans, as you’re risking the homes of the people who are renting from you.

My mom used to go to the ATM every weekend to take out cash for that week's spending. She took out a particular amount. A set amount was for my dad to spend on like whatever he wanted/needed. And a larger chunk was for my mom because it was her whatever money and the grocery money for that week. Bills and shared expenses all that came out of checking. The whatever money was theirs to do literally whatever. Spend on general nonsense or stash it and save up to buy more expensive nonsense. It's a pretty good system imo. Especially for people who aren't credit card people.

I'm 20 mins in, I'm so confused it's making me stressed. I've never heard something so complicated. He volunteered to leave his job because his kids go to private school and his cousin offered him a job he's not qualified for so he prayed to Jesus, he's invested his emergency fund into crypto even though he only has the emergency fund because he borrowed against his retirement to fund an emergency for which he's awaiting a rebate, he's going into real estate with the second half of his house's loan that was inherited by his dad after his grandad passed, even though the house value doubled but he didn't pay a 35 dollar bill so he couldn't borrow from a bank until he put 20% down at his friend's bank. 🤔🤔 I'm actually not clever enough to figure this out so I won't watch the rest.

You forgot that not paying that 35 dollar bill caused his credit score to go to around 500 so he couldn't borrow the money. Other than that, I would say you have got it!
Episodes like this piss me off because he doesn’t understand how extremely lucky is he to have his family bail him out time after time. Also graduating without student loans, no house loan, and being able to pay off all debt is insane to me lol. I wish he’d be more realistic and responsible. Having four kids and a wife without a income is a lot of handle financially but quitting your six figure job voluntarily seems like something he shouldn’t have done.

I wasn't financially free until my 40’s and I’m still in my 40’s, bought my third house already, earn on a monthly through passive income and got 4 out of 5 goals, just hope it encourages someone that it doesn’t matter if you don’t have any of them right now, you can start TODAY regardless your age INVEST and change your future! My parents were the opposite of his wife's parents. They both grew up as dirt poor farmers who didn't even have indoor plumbing until they were in high school. When they started making great money as engineers, they still lived, and therefore my brother's and I, like they were still dirt poor. My mother didn't buy anything unless it was on sale AND she had coupons for it. My brother's and I thought they were cheap and ghetto. All 3 of us get it now and we don't take money for granted.

Impressive video. I started a bit late (graduated from my doctorate program at age 30 in 2016 with 170k in school loan debt). Managed to pay off my debt by 2019 and currently have a house and 250k total in investments (combo of profit share, 401k and a brokerage account). I'm not very knowledgeable with investing, so I have all my capital currently vested in index funds but considering the dollar dumping and current inflation crisis. How optimal would this be beneficial long term?

Once I hit the chapter where he praised MLMs I threw the book at a wall and wrote him off as a wonderful teacher for a few basic concepts with far too much hype.
