I've noticed this myself. As I've followed the steps to shore up my finances past couple years, and I am in a way better situation now then I was then, my dependence on debt to cover emergencies goes down and so my credit score goes down. I think that the credit score curve is an inverse parabolic curve when financial freedom is the dependant variable. But I am fine that credit agencies don't see me as an ideal customer.

I'm 10 minutes in, and I'm soooo glad he said that, I've been thinking it for a while. That feeling of "I'm so far into it, what's the use in trying?" I think is the reason why most of the guests on this show are so deep in debt, especially the ones who can't articulate the reason. The mental drain on "why should I bother trying to be responsible when this will only add $1-$2 to my monthly minimum" is so hard to beat without a clear plan like what Caleb prescribes.

This is how most people live. As much as financial experts say that you should have a 3-6 month emergency fund, most people don't even have 1 month's bills as a safety net. Late payment fees and overdraft fees mean that you quickly go into a debt spiral if you don't have savings to fall back on. Any unexpected bill, job loss, illness, injury or bereavement can throw your entire financial future into chaos. The experts are right about being prepared for the unexpected but that is super difficult right now with stagnating wages and a cost of living crisis.

Ummm, he said he's going to Argentina for Christmas. A quick check of flights from Houston to Buenos Aires shows the cheapest flight (traveling from Wednesday to Wednesday, cheaper days to fly) is $1952. Add to that meals in the airports, entertainment/meals while there, and a week of not working a job that doesn't have PTO this feels like at least a $4000 hit, most of it on a credit card with high interest. I might have advised he not plan to go to Argentina - instead of just focusing on his desire not to be high the whole time he's there.

Definitely sketchy, but it really kinda depends on how they're running it. If they're scheduling people then it should absolutely not be a contractor position. If they just put out a notice to everyone when nights are available and they have to choose to take a shift then it really kinda is a contractor position. I'd love to know what the company does if none of the "contractors" choose to pick up a shift. Do they just reschedule everyone having a test done that night? Do they have actual W-2 employees that have to fill those shifts? Like I said, definitely sketchy, but I can see the logic behind how they got to the point in just having "contractors" that keep an eye on things overnight.

Him being an independent contractor is probably due to him originally being part time, most places I’m aware of 1099 part time workers since they aren’t going to be paying benefits for the worker. @Riggy931

Weed is actually medicine tho. Using weed to lessen your anxiety is actually a legitimate way to make it go away. Of course, if your anxiety has a core reason behind it that’s you’re not addressing because you’re getting high then that’s toxic. But sometimes people can’t change the things giving them anxiety, or their brain is just anxious for little to no reason. It’s important to call out bad habits but weed can also be used for good by many people.
@rebeccashields9626
@rebeccashields9626 Жыл бұрын
@@Riggy931no, it’s not. Just like drinking for anxiety or Xanax for anxiety it does not treat the problem it just masks the symptoms. “Anxiety” is a normal human emotion and experience and is generally a warning sign for something not working in your life. When your body overreacts and you are anxious about things you don’t need to be there are actual evidence bars therapies for that. Exposure therapy, exercise, cognitive behavioral therapy, etc. Not weed or alcohol or benzos.
@Riggy931
@Riggy931 Жыл бұрын
@@rebeccashields9626 anxiety is not as simple as you’re making it. People have chemical imbalances and you can be perfectly content with the facts of your life and still have crippling anxiety. I’m not denying that weed is masking or helping deal with it instead of fixing it. But if you constantly have it and there’s a way to resolve it then yes it’s medicine. And alcohol isn’t as good to deal with anxiety. Not all drugs are made equal and there are actual valid uses for some.

So awesome to see this episode and kudos to Jeff for coming on. Take your mental health seriously dude. There’s so many conditions that get exasperated by financial stress and nicotine/weed use (not to say you can partake sometimes) but taking that step for yourself can make a world of difference. Can’t wait to see you back in a few months

TIL that you can apparently spend more than the given credit limit on a cc. I have legitimately *never* done this my entire 4+ decades of existence. I can't even imagine how this guy sleeps at night with this kind of debt looming overhead.
@AceRanger20
@AceRanger20 Жыл бұрын
I’ve done this by accident, I had just moved and was needing to buy furniture. I had plenty of room on my CCs since I keep them paid off but I had somehow swapped my cards and grabbed the wrong one. They all look exactly the same, but one of them has a max limit around 1/30th of the others. Had a partial payment go through and got really confused, until I noticed the numbers on it and it had charged 110% of my credit limit on the card. Paid it off immediately and charged the rest to another card, so that’s how I learned about it and the upper limit

She's too intelligent for him. She can do better. This guy just said that the most important thing to work on is his finances when she WANTS him to stop smoking dope. How is that not enough to cause him to break the habit? He was fired because his "head wasn't in it" but I think he was more worried about his poor habits than actually...ummm...what do the kids call it...adulting? I truly hope that she realizes that she's wasting time with him and that she should cut him loose. Twenty will be 30 in the blink of an eye. I get the feeling he's waiting for her to get her degree and start her career so that she can be the primary breadwinner.

Hey Caleb, huge huge fan of your videos, been watching about a month now as a 30 year old trying to make sure I stay on track for my future. I really appreciate what you do for people and being able to share for everybody who is watching. I wanted to share my experience with quitting vaping; it was a heavy addiction that ate into a lot of my finances every week. Currently I'm on week 6 of Nicorette gum and am looking at being completely nicotine/vape free within another 2-3 weeks. So far I have spent only $130 on the gum packs which has sustained the cessation for the full period and will get me to about 2 months of usage, which I believe will be enough for me to quit completely. I have very addictive tendencies but this regimen has really helped me get off the bad habits and I highly recommend this way of quitting to anybody who struggles to get themselves off Nicotine. I just wanted to share as I have seen a few of your guests sharing the same issues with quitting such a strong addictive substance. I just hope to inspire others and share a way of actually being successful in quitting for both health and financial reasons. Peace and health to all out there

LOVING the content Mr. Hammer. I was wondering if you've considered talking interest costs to the guests ie:"you spent 500 bucks on food and that was a fine price? Ok. But because of your interest it is costing$700!!" I wonder if most people don't understand the extra directly makes their taquitos cost EVEN MORE
