I took the Lowlander to Edinburgh in March 2024 in Club Room - loved it. My first time ever booking a sleeper berth on any train worldwide.

Those beds look very, very comfortable and cosy. I think I’d sleep well in one of those. I loved seeing the “Brexie” mood lighting. Great video and have a great day Doc. (Anthony, Australia).

Have all the wrinkles been ironed out on the new Caledonian Sleeper. When I rode the old sleeper in 2018 the shabby overnighter was running way past its expiration date, but I've heard the new train also had some teething problems when it was launched in 2019.

Considering the cost, there should have been a steward for your carriage. From other videos of this train, one of the principal complaints is that the railbed is not smooth and the ride is not quiet.

Do west coast mainline trains use this route? Are all the rides rough on west coast mainline?
@doc7austin4 ай бұрын
@samtrak1204 normally, the caledonian sleeper train takes the west coast main line between london and carlisle.

The carriages seems poor isolated and noisy for a night ride... . Btw, i love the white lamp, it's from Amazon?
@moyeelam96664 ай бұрын
Does the noise + commotion when pulling into/out of each of the interim stops during the night means it’s virtually impossible to get through sleep, even with eyeshades and earplugs? Most earplugs are not 100% soundproof…

but that is true for all night trains; there will always be noise snd commotion

Euston, a testament to 1960's architectural style. You are being kind, its awful, soulless, and needs to be redeveloped as a whole, but then that would need a government with vision. Instead we have Sunak who flies up to Manchester in a private helicopter to announce the cancellation of HS2
@alexmcwhirter66114 ай бұрын
My first job in the late 1960s was close to Euston. At that time this new Euston was considered to be the exciting future of UK rail (BR of course back then) ! Think back to StPancras ... at that time it was threatened with demolition but now it's Grade 1 listed.

Wouldn't East Coast mainline be more direct for London - Edinburgh leg?
@doc7austin4 ай бұрын
yes; maybe; but how do you get from london euston station to the east coast main line ?
@alexmcwhirter66114 ай бұрын
I believe the Kings Cross platforms wouldn't be able to accommodate the lengthy Cal Sleeper. (Euston has longer patforms) And as doc7austin says it's not easy to go from WCML to ECML in the London area.
@johnstansfield52654 ай бұрын
@@alexmcwhirter6611, when the Caley Sleeper is diverted via the ECML it diverts from Wembley to Finsbury Park and vv via the North London Line and North London Incline. On the very rare occasions that Euston has been blocked and it has run to/from Kings Cross, it operates a reduced formation - but even then I believe is still too long for most of the platforms at KX (rather like the White Rose Eurostar sets were).
@alexmcwhirter66114 ай бұрын
@@johnstansfield5265 Thanks for the explanation. Yes I know there have been cases (engineering works, flooding on WCML etc) when Cal Sleeper had to take ECML. Correct re the diversion route but I believe Cal Sleeper must reverse near Wembley and this adds time and complication.
@doc7austin4 ай бұрын
@johnstansfield5265 can this routing from euston to the ECML be done without having to reverse directions ?
