Amazing work. I love how graphic your backdrop rock paintings are, and even love the look of the sculpted foam at this stage.

When I get around to my back drop, I'm going to try go full Bob Ross with mine. Love his style and the ease of it.

This channel has turned out to be one of the best suggestions I've even gotten from David at Freshbaked. Thank you for sharing your creativity and skills. Oh and thanks for ending off with the trains running! Always a highlight,

I am going to have to give this a try behind some flat hills I tried on a small layout those back drops are brilliant and fit in so well. Thanks for explaining the rules.

So true, about acrylic and latex paints drying darker. But what a great example of that you gave us in “ real” time. Your cloud painting tutorial was very inspirational. I can imagine all over the country happy little “ Andy’s room “ clouds will suddenly spring up. Nicely done, sir. This is a great series. Thank you. See ya next time.

This is a very interesting explanation of clouds. Using a relatively small filbert brush is a concept that I will try. The Bob Ross liquid white technique seems like it would be pretty expensive and stinky to apply across the backdrop of my model railroad.

Like watching a Magician, but instead of "Now you see it, now you don't". It's "Now you don't see it and Now you do". But I have to ask (well, I don't really need to ask BUT). Why not primer and paint the basic blues, Before standing the backdrop up? Seems it would be a lot easier for you. My modular model train club use blue (what we call "Skyboards) similar to what you have. I'm going to try (the emphasis is on TRY) to add clouds to what is a boring backdrop. Between you, Jake Johnson and Jason Jenson. You're all Masters of the Art.
@ThunderMesaStudio3 жыл бұрын
That would be easier, and I certainly could have done the primer that way. But since I was trying to match the existing backdrop, I needed to paint the blues in place so the subtle gradients would line up.

I know its Masonite but I think you should patent “Thunder Mesa-nite”

Great tutorial. That's something I should do at one time, my old backdrop isn't looking good. By the way, on this backdrop, you didn't paint any cumulonimbus, but several cumulus and the big cumulus congestus (the order is Cu->Cu con->Cb). One point you didn't mention is that the more vertically developed the cloud is, the darker the base.

They make a retarder gel you can mix with the acrylic to slow down drying time. It gives you a few more minutes to work the paint.

It looks terrific. For the base and lighter base / mountain color, what are they closest too in terms of trying to find at a store?
@ThunderMesaStudio3 жыл бұрын
The darker base is a good match for Liquitex raw sienna. The lighter base is the same but lightened with white.

Good information but would it be possible to balance the music volume with the narrative??
