Thanks for sharing! I appreciate that you are showing the challenges and difficulties that a bonsai student can encounter. Very helpful. I think you did a beautiful job carving out the dead and rotten area.

I like the way you think. I just got done after 2 days working on my Cotoneaster and I am unhappy with it. Because of your videos, I will take it out of the training pot and replant it in a bigger garden pot. Keep up the great work... and always think out side of the box ...

Nice channel, nice explanation. I have no experience in how to grow bonsai but I am sure that this channel will help me out as yesterday I have bought a nice Cottoneaster in a Japanese event. I called my bonsai "BANZAI" (10 000 years) as I really wish it will live this long :D

thank you for your videos. i have a suggestion for you if you are as picky as i am about the visible strings. tie a collar around the branch with a soft gentle string (to protect the bark) and then use the collar as an anchor to tie fishing line to. Then draw the branches down with the fishing line like you have done with the string. the string collar around the branch is still a bit ugly but the fishing line is a lot less noticeable. nice to finally "see" you!

Hi from Florida! I don't know if it will work but, I say this sparingly that you might use a origanic funguside and copper sulfate. They might kill the rotting part on the bark. keep in mind that a table spoon of copper sulfate will kill all the fish in a large pond from the run off of your watering if there is one close to you. We learned the the hard way on a farm pond. In Florida any soft bark tree suffer from borers and fungus. Soft bark Maples and Oaks can't be grown this far south.

Saw a vid while back showing if you use like lava rock in the soil also it has cutting like edges to help roots produce more ..just a thought

Thanks for making these videos. How is your tree doing - all these years later? I looked through your videos on your channel and didn't see any for this plant.

I have to also say its nice to see your face. I always wondered what you looked like, Hope you dont mind me asking what is your day job? I have been following all your videos and really enjoy them. I am here in Pittsburgh and suffering through one of the coldest winters in years. Cant wait till spring to get working on my trees. Looking forward to your next video. keep up the good work.

Curious to know how the tree is doing now? I have many baby coast live oaks and I’m looking to design a few into bonsai, but I’m skeptical how this type of oak will do as a bonsai since it does have very aggressive tap roots.
