If you grill the tomatillos first you will get AMAZING salsa! Grill the peppers while you’re at it too!

Instead of boiling, try rubbing oil on your tomatillos, jalapenos, tomatoes and garlic then toss them in the oven. don't add any water when blending and I think you'll utilize the flavors alot more. Make sure there is just a little char on your veggies before blending. Salsa comes out so flavorful. Amazing video guys thank you.

Great colab! Love the out takes too. The shade cloth tip for tomatoes is great, we have had 100*f temps and my tomatoes were feeling a bit stressed. I remembered my old shade cloth when you mentioned it in the video. I'm ready for the next heatwave now. Thankyou!🍅🌶🍉

I love that you are going back and answering viewer questions. The Coast to Coast Facebook page is always filled with fellow gardeners with lots of helpful tips. Thank you both so much for the information and inspiration. Gardening can be rough when you start having things die or wilt, but a little knowledge and encouragement goes a long way. Now, my family always has something fresh from the garden to eat for dinner so, thank you for all you do! See y’all on the next video!

Great video Gary and Kim! And excellent camerawork, Jerry! Loved the bloopers, so much fun! I learned: Making videos isn't easy. ;-) I really found the tips very helpful, thank you so much. I would never have thought that I would need shadecloth one day, but yesterday we had 89 degrees Fahrenheit here and my raspberries (in containers on the west side of the house) got sunburned leaves! Never had to deal with that before.

I like the collaboration. Interesting tips from different growing zones. Question about tomatillos, when transplanting from a seed start to a pot or soil should I burry a portion of the stem like tomatoes?

Hi Calikim. Thank you for sharing. I found the whole video interesting and helpful. I discovered how many pepper plants to plant in a 5 gallon container and what size container to plant an indeterminate tomato. This has been a concern of mine seeing as it will be my first spring planting in containers coming up. It has most probably been mentioned in prior videos but it's the first time it has clicked with me. I'm so excited to start my seedlings. It was wonderful to watch.

First time growing tomatillo's this year and I didn't know they should be planted in pairs! I have 3 total plants, but they are in different garden areas in my yard. Should I attempt to dig them up and move them together, or would it be better top try to hand pollinate between plants?

I noticed Gary is using a lot of galvanized tubs for planting his tomatoes. Two questions, where does Gary get these tubs? Also, does he drill holes in the bottom for drainage or otherwise?

I was going to say "thank you for telling folks that you have to boil your tomatillos"...then Gary says he eats them raw! LOL! That's unheard of. My mom is Mexican and grew up making tomatillo salsas, etc...she taught me to NEVER eat them raw. Since Gary hasn't kicked the bucket, I guess it's ok! (:

I eat them raw or into my scramble eggs. They are sweet either way and delicious.

I always make my salsa verde with 2lbs of raw tomatillos, cilantro, 1 onion, garlic and 6 serranos. It just depends on the flavor you want. I also have made it boiled and roasted. 🤷♀️

Do tomatillos form husks only if they have been pollinated (by another plant)? Also, once the husks form, approximately how long does it take before the fruit is ready to harvest?

Please help! I cannot find info on youtube. My tomatillos are producing tons of flowers but never any fruit. I picked one tomatillo. This is a mature plant it was planted in March or April outdoors in Georgia zone 7, and it is now July and nada! I am so disappointed; this is year two of trying to grow tomatillos and failing. The temps have not been over 95. Except this week it did get to 97. Also my tomatillo plant is in a 10 gallon container. There are two plants for pollination.

Nice video. I have a question about my eggplants. This year for the first time I am growing eggplants in some large containers and even with constant watering and fertilizing, none of my single eggplant flower produced fruit. They kept dropping off. I also did hand pollination on them but no luck. I didn't get one single eggplant this year. What could be the reason? Is this because I am growing them in container or something? I'd really love to know the cause so next year I don't do the same mistakes again. Thank you so much.

Since tomatilllos are self-incompatible, I wonder if propogated cuttings would technically not be able to fertilize the mother plant because they are clones

Don't boil your tomatillos too long or they split. Splitting makes them really sour or tart. Let them cool a bit before blending.
