Regardless of PS5 or Series X you're still getting insane performance for the dollar. Prior to launch many people thought the RT would be RTX 2060 S/2070 tops. Here we are getting 3060ti/2080 S perf. It'd be like PS4 or XB1 having gpu equivalence to an R9 280X/GTX 770. *Edit:* I don't want to gloss over the 8c/16th Zen 2 cpu either. So, it'd also be like PS4 and XB1 having the equivalent to a decently clocked i7 4c/8th instead of the ultra cheap Jaguar cores.

Did you watch 13:10? This isn't a like for like comparison... PC is using g higher settings causing it to be hit harder than the PS5 who's settings is lower than PC can get to. Its weaker than what the chart showed, and ge pointed that out multiple times.

Firstly, the 3090 is an absolute BEAST. It’s crazy how it chews through that workload like it’s nothing. Secondly, it’s crazy what the PS5 is able to do at that price. $500 for that kind of performance is unreal. I’m excited for this gen, and how these consoles are going to allow gaming to look and feel so much better. *Edit* I recently purchased the $500 disk version. I never would have purchased the digital version due to my collection of PS4 games. I’m aware that there is a $400 version, but $500 was fresh on my mind.

I'm just happy the consoles have SSDs for once. Maybe in the next 2 years engines will no longer need loading screens. Hard drives on the consoles has really been holding that progress back. I remember when I bought my PC and started over Just Cause 3 which I just beat on PS4. On PS4 loading screens were 30-1:30 in length. On PC, I never had a single one over 10 seconds with the average being only 3-5 seconds. SSDs really make a world of difference.

To be honest, I can run the game at 4K 60 with ultra ray tracing on a 2080S (DLSS is just the future) Users who just need to upgrade the gpu, the RTX 3070 seems like a better deal, pc is always a better option if you can go the extra mile

I haven't seen the 3080 in stock for more than a minute and it gets restocked a tenth as often as the 3090, so I got a 3090. At least Final Fantasy 15 at 4K utilizes that 24GB of Vram.

Seriously though, I wouldn't see those burning shadows and missing icicles or that slightly lowres fire effect when the game is in motion. It's already difficult to see in the freeze frame zoomed in view. Definitely wouldn't notice at normal tv viewing distance even if standing still. It's good to see a relatively cheap console getting so close to pc high settings which need a beefy system to run the game at.

You will "FEEL" the difference when the framerate drops....I guarantee it. I moved up from a 60hz monitor, to a 165hz monitor on my PC, the difference is incredible.

Thank you so much for going back and covering this one. My family owns the game on both PS5 and an RTX 3080 PC. I was genuinely impressed with the visuals on PS5 even in the 120Hz performance mode. Consoles will never look as good as a top-of-the-line PC, but the PS5 is an impressive piece of tech right now at the $500 mark.

The PS5 is nowhere near the 3070. Lol As said in the video the GPUs were performing lower than they should of due to particle effects and such being higher on PC than PS5, causing them more hits to fps than theps5 since it doesnt have those effects. (See 13:10-13:30) The PS5 is weaker than a 3060, and around a 2070. Less with DLSS on. The 3060 build would be under 1k.

A separate test with assassin's creed valhalla with more comparable settings found the ps5 in line with a 2080, and that makes sense here too. In this test a 2080 super would be a little bit behind the ps5, but assuming the high res transparency effects have a 5-10 percent impact then we would be at, or just above the 2080.

@@russellfox5877 They said in the Assassin's Creed video that the game is very heavily favored in AMD, and Nvidia cards are underutilized. Also here he brings up that these are alpha particle resolution difference which is a setting that could cause major damage to fps on PC far mroe than just a 5-10% hit (also 10% worse than a 2080 super is less than a 2080), and there are multiple settings on PS5 lower than what PC can reach. The PS5 was under the 2080 super. Both AC and this benchmark shows PS5 is most likely at 2070s range, not counting DLSS which put the 2070s above the PS5 even with that hit to fps.

The prices of computers vary wildly based off of pre-built or building yourself. Prebuilt being more expensive sometimes by hundreds of dollars.. Mine cost about $1300 2 years ago (prebuilt) and still offers generally better performance than the new consoles. I can also overclock it and add more memory at anytime to increase its performance even better. I also use it for more than just games. PC is just for people who prefer options. I don't think I'm superior and am glad you guys are getting more options.

That's what I like to call intelligent cuts. They made the cuts in a way that makes it hard to see at all from a naked eye. So the game looks Super close to the PC version because of the Raytracing being kept and the cuts being in certain elements of the technique. I hope more devs use this and tweak games to retain as much Raytracing as possible without hitting the Framerate as much because raytracing off and raytracing on is night and day but an in between method like this is hard to notice unless you are sensitive to it. PC is still best by far though but I love how close Consoles are this time around. The PS4 was no where near as close to PC when it launched so seeing PS5 and Series be so close is a nice change.

I’m a ps5 gamer and am enjoying it, but you shouldn’t have a problem all gen with a 2080ti with just dlss feature. That’s what really future proofs the Nvidia graphics cards, and is sorely a missed opportunity from amd and the consoles. Seems like more games are supporting it now too. We’ll see if checkboard rendering is improved or amd’s super resolution is worthwhile.

@@V1CT1MIZED I think it’s very real that the ps5 will perform at 2080ti levels in rasterization when they get better optimized. But I can’t see it in terms of ray tracing / dlss. Nvidia is far ahead in that area, much more than amd. The cards that came out during the PS4 era were vram limited hence their performance woes on modern games. But these cards don’t have that limitation. Either way, you’re still getting good value with the ps5. The 2080ti card cost was triple the ps5 cost alone 6 months ago. And games always differ. The series x is running at much lower clock speed than the 6800xt, and even here you can see that the 6800xt only performs 30 percent better than the ps5, when it has more than double the CUs. Sony integrated dedicated Shaders to the GPU, other GPUs do support mesh shaders but Consoles will always be better performing for the same hardware because of the fine-grain optimization that develop do. No one is going to optimize for a specific GPU, from a specific vendor with a specific hardware configuration on PC, on consoles you can. In fact, Sony launches many games on a single device which allows you fully utilize it. 100%.

They used this scene as kind of a worst case benchmark scenario. Most of the time the game won’t be as intensive. I used to have a 2070s and at 1440p RT on and high I got around 70-80 fps with no DLSS

I should also mention that DLSS is basically a defacto setting on 20 series cards and up. With how good DLSS 2.0 is, there’s pretty much no reason to not have it on. 2070s with DLSS commonly stays in the 90s for fps

Could you guys do a review on the xbox one x and series x, showing how 120 hz mode doesn't work on all monitors that actually support it. This has been an ongoing issue for years now. Huge forum on reddit and Microsoft help pages. Its something to do with the way Microsoft is coding the system. It won't recognise some monitors correctly. Many of us hoped that it would be fixed on the new consoles, but it isnt. Maybe you shining a light on this would get them to fix it. I was told a update would fix it on the One X, but it never came.

@@DickieBeard There is no point 1- this video was PS5 because of a Bug in dynamic resolution , the cutscene was stuck at native 4k causing the FPS to drop , making it ideal for comparison against pc 2- the Valhalla video ? The scenes they were comparing were the ones running at the lowest Res which 1440p on ps5 , to match 1440p on pc Those scenes are 1188p on series X so what's the point. Pretty much every other comparison video has both consoles

So the buggd airplane crash sequence of the PS5 version was due to DRS failing to work, which was what caused the Series X version to lead in FPS. Did DF mention this before or have they found out later? Resolution is the first thing I would be checking during sections where framerate drops. And it seems to me that this game is better optimized (or better fit) for nvidia chipsets as evidenced by the poor performance on the RX 6800 XT, which the PS5 is surprisingly close to, even with the particle effects reduction taken into account.

It's funny how little the difference is between all the various visual settings. Except for a couple big ones, I was hard-pressed to catch the difference in many of the examples, especially the volumetric lighting. I mean, I definitely could pick each out but it took a few seconds of really parsing what I was looking at to finally spot the difference. Something you just couldn't possibly do in actual gameplay. They did a decent job optimizing the look of this game. I don't usually care about the technical aspects of a CoD game but Cold War is the rare exception. They got a lot of visual bang for their buck out of the new generation.

Nah it happens the same every console generation , as devs learn the ins and outs of a console, usually 2 or 3 years down the line, they peak out on the consoles max performance then it will start to trail behind PC a lot in terms of power but the value of your money when buying a console isn’t going anywhere anytime soon

After I beat it, I just uninstalled the ultra hd texture pack and turned everything down to low/medium because I'm literally not going to notice the difference running around on MP but the framerate boost definitely would help.

@@Damstructions-funny Thats the problem. Sony did not use any part of RDNA 2 from AMD to make this possible. But Microsoft did in the XBSX. DLSS is not a cheat code from software. It uses the extra tensor cores in RTX cards that are designed for AI and ML. AMD does not have this in there GPUs. That is why ray tracing on AMD cards and these consoles are so taxing on the system. I dont see a pro version coming out any time soon about 3 years from now maybe.
