Thanks for comment. I absolutely respect the old ways, but This is definitely an updated way to do it with things I learned in culinary school, trust me, you get the same results easier with the updated version.

Thank you so much for putting up food that represents the Virgin Islands. We can cook it, too! Can you please make videos on how to make saltfish and beef patties, those large Johnnycakes we eat during carnival time, fungi and fish, dumplings, Ducana, etc.? P.S. You can even throw in some red pea soup, too. Thanks!

It looks delicious! I can’t have sea food, so I will use saltfish, pork and smoke turkey! I don’t have a pressure cooker, can I use a crockpot to soften my pork?

Actually this is a bootleg version of kalalloo. There are many different types of bush(greens) that go in kalalloo. Find the authentic recipe.

This is my version of kalaloo.. You can find the original of the many versions you are talking about, and send me the link to watch your video 👌🏽… let us see your bootleg, authentic, whichever version you do , so we can judge your take on it…

I think the U.S Virgin Island is completely bootleg..Their dishes don't seems cohesive.Seems they throw different island staples together

@@ardithb3856Hater. Stop spreading your negativity. Just take pride in how your culture makes. The Caribbean and those of Caribbean descent are not a homogeneous group.

@@ardithb3856 That’s because a majority of the born and raised USVI people have left the islands and now the islands are overrun by immigrants from other Caribbean countries who put their own spin on everything USVI. Yes, I am one of those that left the moment I completed high school and only return for vacations, funerals and to look after my property.

Which Virgin Islands are you referring to, USVI or BVI? First of all, Virgin Islanders don’t make kalloloo (callaloo) soup, we make kallaloo. You’re missing ingredients that you can very well purchase from grocery stores on the mainland, if that’s where you now reside, not chopping the okras seems like foolishness. Born and raised Virgin Islanders aren’t claiming you nor your method, furthermore, your accent doesn’t sound like ours. Have a good day.😊

I normally don’t respond to ah you, bad minded, internet, key board gangsters, but I got time today. Moreover, this dish doesn’t originate in the Virgin Islands, but in west Africa where they make it different ways, with smoke fish and never any pork, they don’t eat with fungi, but with fufu. This came with the slaves when they were stolen from Nigeria and other west African countries. Before you past judgment and act like the JUDGE & Know it all of Virgin Islands cuisine, learn your culinary history of your CLAIMED people dem.. Chups… and Please, show us your culinary background and chef skills, so we can judge you.. smh I was taught by 2 of my 1st cousins, one who is known for her soup skills on St Thomas, and the other who had a restaurant on coki point and still cooks on deh beach to this day. If I told u who she is you would shut your azz up immediately. Callaloo or Kallaloo whichever way you spell it, bc it’s the same shit, is a soup, DUMMY. I was born, raised half there and half in the states, Family very well known, there is a school name after my moms sister who just past. I’m a land owner in the bvi and in st Thomas, I graduated from UVI, bf leaving to go to culinary school in the states. I was carnival princess on St Thomas and so was my daughter… ive been hated on most of my younger years by several of my own VI women ppl dem, I’m never VI enough for some of you, or your man dem liked me and that was a problem, so I’m used to hate like this, it’s still very annoying. yes I’m a little different bc I’ve lived in the states and St Thomas, I’m not backward or ignorant, nor small minded, seems you are. I’m a classically French trained chef and bring my training to a lot of Virgin Islands recipe bc there are other ways to do things not the same old backward slow way of people like your mentality level who bl the only way to do anything VI is the way they old ppl did it donkey years ago. Please grow up, there are several ways to do things, your no authority, and if you are try being respectful and offer your teaching skills 🤷♀️… Additionally, You don’t like it? Well DONT WATCH ! Please keep your BS hating azz of my page … And please, don’t claim me, bc I don’t need claiming … I’m happy just being me.. ✌️
