I would argue that's why the people in ANTIFA fear Daryl. For three reasons I think people on the left would fear and hate Daryl Davis. #1) Daryl does not play the part of the victim, which punches a huge hole in their entire narrative. If a black man can literally go and talk to hardline Klasmen and Neonazis, then maybe racism isn't anywhere near problem in this country that they would like everyone to believe. #2) Daryl renders Antifa redundant. Again, if Daryl can go and truly convince people who literally hate him based on the color of his skin that they're wrong, just by talking to people and hanging out with them, why would anything like Antifa be remotely considered necessary, or acceptable? #3) (and I think this is the big one) Daryl has the type of courage and bravery that Antifa wishes they had. Antifa are, as near as I can tell, a bunch of bullying children. They have what Susan Sontag called in her brilliant essay "Fascinating Fascism" the fetishism of courage. What that means is they want to feel courageous, that they're fighting this great fight against the evil rise of fascism in America, but at the end of the day they're blocking traffic and keeping walker using seniors from crossing the street (go look that up). Daryl, on the other hand, is literally out there speaking to people who claim to want to do him violence (and are part of an organization that has a history of committing violence against Black people), and he doesn't bat an eyelash. How can Antifa live with themselves if someone like Daryl is out there? So they have to brand Daryl the worst form of heretic possible because Daryl is what they wish they could be, but lack the courage to do so.

People look at Daryl Davis and hear a feel-good story about black/white race-relations, but I would caution anyone looking at this to remember that the way white people feel is not the same as the way black people are treated by institutions. Having friends isn't the same as ending or undoing racial violence at the institutional level. White people tolerate blacks more than ever, yet black people have become poorer over the last 2 decades. Today black people continue to experience the effects of slavery, Jim Crow, redlining, and segregation. Financial institutions still devalue black homes b/c of their owner's skin color, and try to give black people sub-standard loans which don't measure up to those given to whites with similar credit. The most egregious racism is the kind tied to money and Daryl Davis isn't fighting that.

I also had other bad run ins with black guys over my time, but those were the black guys that didn't mix with the white kids. Everyone in their silos with people on both sides preaching hate is what causes problems and the Left seems to want to keep that separation so they can count on black votes to win. Meanwhile blacks vote for them over and over again, for nearly 60 years and what have they done to help. That is almost 2.5 generations and the Democrats still have not helped black people.

What has the right done for African Americans?!?! Because I haven't seen them offering up a whole hell of a lot to help their community, other than figuring out ways to suppress their vote, but I'm willing to listen.
@TheHammerofDissidence4 жыл бұрын
@@mariannecontrino6297 that's because Republicans treat African Americans like normal citizens, not handicapped children. I'm not a Republican but it's obvious Democrats only utilize race for votes. If they actually fixed the problems they'd no longer have racial problems to campaign on. For example, when the right campaigns for the 2nd Amendment, they want it to apply to inner city African Americans as well so they protect their homes. Democrats want to strip away their ability to do that.

Marianne Contrino before I answer, and I will answer, what has the left done in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Baltimore the last 4 or 5 decades? Lord help the regular folk living in those lefty cities. 1) The right has been fighting to preserve your right to own a gun and defend your family and property with it against the kkk, BLM, or anybody else that that would do harm. 2) The right wants to keep this country strong. When I was in Iraq the USA paid $800 a month to non USA citizens to work 84 hours a week, every week, every month with no days off. We would fly them in and out at no cost. If something isn’t done then this can start happening in our own borders. That is cheaper labor than folks crossing the border illegally. All for big cooperation benefit. Republicans AND Democrats will do it. 3) The right seems to be overall, the “sane” people. Women are men and men are women!?!?! C’mon. If you wanna act like the opposite sex fine but don’t make it criminal to believe that they aren’t. That’s nuts. 4) If you want a capitalist society you need to be on the right. The left for whatever reason just doesn’t seem to love it. Especially the extreme leftist’. They want communism cause it fixes all social injustice. If you just look at the number of dead, capitalism in the USA has killed way fewer people than communists have. China killed 40 million in their county in just about 5-6 years during the great leap toward. In all our history from before we were even a country, 1492 to now, we have killed maybe 20 million in 500 years. Capitalism ain’t perfect but it’s a lot better than no freedom and no choice so we can be equal and politically correct.
@JoelCaseyJonesMusic4 жыл бұрын
Marianne Contrino the fact that you are asking what a political party is going to do for you means you still believe the lie. The republic guaranteed in the constitution - yes it says republic not democracy, please read it if you haven’t (also not tied to “big R” Republican Party) - protects you from the government trying to take away your right to the equal opportunities as everyone else. Nowhere does it give you ANYTHING. Stop wanting someone to give you a handout and take what is rightfully yours. And for the record I am a disparaged mixed minority that is taking life by the horns. woke leftism in a nutshell: accuse daryl davis of being a neo nazi and feeling righteous and virtuous about it
@ElTigreDelNorte_4 жыл бұрын
TheyCalledMeT Woke ideology happens on the left, the right, and the center. Extreme self righteous leftist views and extreme intolerant right wing views. On one side a person might wrongly call anyone who has an interaction with in this case a kkk member and label them a neo-nazi. On the other side, someone might call any person of different skin color, clothing, religion, creed, etc as illegal, terrorist, gang member. Both individuals see themselves as being “aware” of an underlying subtext. I’m a leftist and I hate “woke” culture bc it’s driven through self-righteous narcissism on the left and intolerance on the right. If you’re a true leftist or even just an ordinary person politics aside, you’d see that what Daryl Davis did was he crossed boundaries and created a genuine interaction with people who never would have considered giving him an opportunity. It’s really something that few would even have the courage or integrity to do.

@@TheyCalledMeT he said because people on either side see themselves as being "aware" of an underlying subtext. So not woke, specifically, but same idea.

Everyone's fears and concerns matter. All of us are wrong about stuff, but the root of what we feel strongly about, but are potentially wrong about, is a fear or concern. That's why what helps is just treating each other like human beings who matter. Whose concerns matter. Whose fears matter. Then we can hear each other and correct where we're all wrong. As long as we want to stand outside and judge and yell at each other, no matter which side does it, it doesnt work.

I once saw a Ted Talk video by Daryl Davis on KZbin about his experience with the Klan. I was really blown away by his story and experience. I really like his charisma and his character. Kinda wish I could meet him to hear him tell me his story in person.

Mr. Daryl Davis is an incredible human being. And an absolute genius foremost. Secondly, I feel Social debate and intellectual conversations are becoming non existent. With the exception #JRE👍 We have to get back to listening and interacting with one another in person, in a civilized manner people. Stay positive, question everything, knowledge is power.
