today we dive in to what is apparently the future of blockchain / web3 gaming. if you've ever dared to peak your head around the corner and take a look at web3 / blockchain games you're probably allready aware of a lot of the issues it faces, today we pull back the curtain to see what web3 games REALLY look like, and what this means for the future of our industry, crypto scams are common and this seems no different!

And the fact that they STILL haven't found anything should be all we need to know. Blockchain seems to be only "good" for people to "invest" in/gamble with bitcoin. Everything else just seems like an attempt to get more people into their coins to make them more "valuable". That's why you can't trust anything crypto bros are saying: They are always incentivized to get more people into crypto and will financially benefit if gaming get's invested with this stuff.

The way you describe the crypto and web3 shenanigans as “infiltrating” the gaming industry is great, but honestly, the word I would use is “infecting.” Crypto and web3 are like parasites in the biological sense because they latch onto a host, don’t provide any benefits to the host organism, and the host suffers for it. It is in no way a mutualistic or even a commensalistic relationship.

I'm already in Web4 Side note: it would be so easy to focus on a great game and then add on crypto whatever into it. Instead, they design a crypto and make a game around it. Focusing on the "making money" part and not the "playing" part is doom to fail your "game" Thirdly, how are these multiplayer games going to function? If their Web3 is decentralized, who's paying for these servers and updating them/moderating them? I also have NO DOUBT the required specs are for mining 100%, using your machine to help the developer

You could make a good game and add NFTs to them, but the backlash usually prevents the NFT part...for now at least. On the other hand, you have tons of shovel ware games build around predatory microtransactions, and those rake in the cash. We're not talking about passionate devs here. One of the most annoying tropes less intelligent people latch onto these days is "hurdur crypdo minor in da softwur" when the incredibly simple and absurdly obvious answer to anyone with two braincells is just that the game is horribly programmed. You don't need 8k textures to make a game taxing, that's a huge misconception. Have none of you people ever played freaking java minecraft? Brooo java minecraft totesmagotes has a cyptduo manur!!! Jfc. There are dozens of ways to make a game taxing, the simplest being loading and keeping loaded an unecessary amount of game objects. That's an EASY way to spike RAM usage. There was no web 1 or 2 and there is no web 3. It's a stupid term cryptobros dreamed up alongside their fake money to make it sound like blockchain was somehow the inevitable future of the internet. They say "web 1.0 was backend only, 2 was frontend and 3 is decentralization" Any knowledge of how the internet came to be shows this statement is deranged. So when was 1.0? When the internet was a private prototype at MIT? When consumer grade dialup connections became a thing? Whoops! There was already messy frontend infrastructure there, unless we idiotically decide anything pre-google was "just backend". The problem is that crypto morons have no idea what they're talking about and repeat this nonsense like a mantra. And decentralization? In what universe is the internet centralized? There is no master server, no one entity controls it. The internet isn't developed in static versions, as it is no one piece of software or hardware, it evolves over time as people and companies add to it, trends come and go, and technologies are introduced.

In order for some players to "play to earn", a lot more players must "play and pay". And when you can play2earn, the value of ingame work will be determined by the value of time of those who can play the game, which is not in first world countries and no one will become rich with that. Diablo3 was "play to earn" as you could sell real items. Nice job, if you live where 5 dollar a day feeds a family.

they're not even a good cash grab, you've got to pay tax when the crypto comes under your control at market value (even if it's worth almost nothing the next minute) then pay gas fees to cash out, THEN pay capital gains... That's three times you're paying just to get paid, maybe more if you transfer it into eth or something else. I don't know how other countries tax crypto but I can't see pay 2 play getting very far here, there's no way young dudes want to pay a CPA or pay for specialized software to square away their gamercoins with the IRS. I don't know about you, but I don't want my sales on a game marketplace to be a taxable event. In game economies are one of the most fun parts of gaming to me, this stuff is awful for those of us tax averse. I give away my handicrafts because I don't want to deal with hobby taxes ffs.

The system requirements give it all away. Something like 5-10 percent of your system's power will go to running the little game, while the other 90-95% mines crypto for them in the background, and your "payment" is actually just a small portion of whatever you earn for them. I never got the whole "play 2 earn" scheme. From my point of view, you are at best very very very unlikely to earn more money than you put into it (either directly or in time) if you did, the developers would be hemorraghing money which, as we now, is not a feasable business model. Especially when there is no fee to entry. Also the wording "in our next wave of f2p p2e games" ... that screams that they are aware that these programs are shovelware at best.
@Temperans
@Temperans Жыл бұрын
It works if it comes about naturally via the players trading as opposed to forced by the devs. Same as collectible card games IRL. EVE does it by effectively having an in game economy that justifies people using real world money to save time. Similar things happens with other MMOs where you have a dedicated group of raid groups. While you also have a dedicated group of farmers selling mats to the raid groups. While also having a dedicate group of bots selling mats in general. * P.S. Also yes the fact that they can't even make 1 decent game speaks loudly about how they aren't actually gamers. Any competent gamer would know that the key to success is making a game fun, and then earn money via marketting deals.

I mean, there's not really anything differentiating a "good" or "successful" NFT project from a rugpull, and none of these "projects" ever reach fruition. Those minimum specs on the first game prove, beyond any speculative doubt, that this entire venture is nothing but using your machine to mine. Also, can we take note of having the minimum GPU more powerful than the recommended one LOL!

I doubt the requirements are for mining. Most likely reason is because they just dumped a ton of assets into scenes without doing anything for optimisation. The ram as well, most things now list the total ram you should have, and honestly nowadays 16 is kinda the minimum required for doing anything as windows takes up far too much.

I wouldn't be surprised if the listed specs for those "games" are just a facade to disguise the game doing some mining. Given that Crypto Clowns can't see far enough ahead to know that fad is dead, I wouldn't be surprised.

I remember playing flash games like Stormwinds lost campaign way back in the days and having an absolute blast because the music was great, the steampunky look was great and the gameplay was fun as hell. This doesn´t look like games from 10 years ago, it just looks like a soulless modern prototype of what may could have become a good game if those people would actually care. BTW wtf is going on with those specs? Somebody should tell them that they have left some game assets in their crypto miner. lol
