Mainoo is a possession player who looks to pass, move, combine, and lure opponents in before breaking forward on the attack. The problem for him is he’s playing in a side that doesn’t have nearly enough possession players to complement him and bring the very best out of him.

@b6pablo Mainoo is smoother on the ball than Pogba and plays a much simpler game. As great as Pogba looks on KZbin mashup videos, he played a very physical game and frequently lost possession because he was constantly trying to body players physically instead of keeping the ball moving.

@Tdoggg The problem is the likes of Maguire, Wan-Bissaka, McTominay, Rashford, Casemiro, etc can’t play a possession game in tight spaces under sustained high pressure. It doesn’t matter who the manager is, United will never be able to dictate and control matches unless they recruit the right profile of players to compliment a player like Mainoo. Otherwise, he will look good in moments but he phased out of most matches and not have the maximum influence that he can really have on matches.

As an arsenal fan I have to say Mainoo from the small amount of games ive seen him in has a high footballing IQ for this age and will no doubt be a baller as a 8 going forward . He has great ball carrying and passing ability and he can dictate the tempo of the game knows when to slow things down and retain the ball or go forward and creates scoring chances for his teammates. He has great vision and fairly precise distribution.On a defensive contributions level he is timely with interceptions and tackles. His adaptability to different positions is also on a ridiculous level and has bags of agility in tight half spaces as well as amazing composure for this age. I cant see him failing at united he seems to be getting better and better in every game I see him in and doesn't shy away in difficult games and big games . United just need a certified 6 really like Amadou Onana which I hope arsenal can get.

Can someone please explain how Sky Sports give Mainoo man of the match on their player ratings? Scored a great goal but was fairly average apart from that. Mac Allister was head and shoulders above anyone on that pitch yesterday and Liverpool totally dominated the game.
