Thanks to the land owner for giving us permission to raid the cool cave (on private land)! We had so much fun, saw quite a few creatures, and had to escape thick smoke from a nearby fire. This all happened here in one day... many places in Oregon and California are still burning. Our area was spared the worst of the fires, but has been filled with unhealthy, smokey air for weeks and now months. @@CalvinHikes This is an unexpected (but pleasant) surprise. Hell Hole is the one that I’ve heard most about, as it’s local and I’ve heard the Birthing Canal is a nasty squeeze. It’s too bad there’s so much graffiti inside. Gotta hate it when some punks desecrate the natural beauty of the cave.

Beautiful cave! The water feature is mesmerizing, as you said. I’m always impressed by the maturity of Mr. Jacob. I admire and teenager who learn by doing, understand safety, and use critical thinking to solve problems. He’s a credit to his parents and uncle! Thank you for your time and I look forward to your next adventure!

Jacob is a monster. ; D Thanks for the kind words.
@CalvinHikes4 жыл бұрын
There have been fires in that area many years ago where some of the firefighters had to take shelter in another nearby cave for 3 days. That was before good roads were developed they just had no way of escaping. So as long as the smoke isn't too bad the answer is yes. Hiding in a cave would certainly protect you from the heat and the flames. And it would provide you with water. The problem would be the smoke and some of that would get in the cave. And if the fire was truly raging a could suck the oxygen out of a small cave. That's much less likely. In all likelihood, you could ride out a fire in a cave... because most fires would pass over in just a number of hours.
@Cagebreaker4 жыл бұрын

From dangerous cave to dangerous forest fire, unbelievable! The latter you’re very lucky to have gotten away safely. If you’d been caving any longer you could’ve been in serious trouble, the clip where you could see the fire through the trees was nerve racking. As an Australian I’ve lived through a lot of deadly fires, they travel terrifyingly fast, often impossible to outrun. I know in our bushfires the animals that have burrows underground survive, their lives are only under threat after the fire as they have no food, after big fires we airdrop food in the affected areas to keep them alive - it’s certainly something I don’t mind our taxpayer money going towards. But if the fire had been right on top of you when you exited the cave you’d probably have been okay if you went back underground, the smoke wouldn’t go down that deep. Of course, you could end up stuck there for a long while if emergency services can’t tame the fire but that’s preferable to getting cornered by a fire, getting consumed by flames is a truly awful way to go. I’m glad you got out of there safely!

We might add it to a video. But the odds of it happening are astronomical. I've never once seen another person in a cave. These are extremely remote locations to begin with. Great vid again! Always wondered, in the middle of a tight squeeze, have you or anyone you known pulled a hamstring or something? That must be a pain!
@CalvinHikes4 жыл бұрын
For sure, I'm old enough where I pull stuff. I usually get a good stretch in before I go caving. Mostly, I'm sore the next day. And it's exhausting. Just super tiring. You have to quit before you run out of energy.

I consider myself very colostraphobic however I find it fun to crawl through very very tight rock formations. I've even created a cave system out of cardboard boxes. But the thing that freaks me out the most about those rock formations is that they are kinda like the birth canal of nutty putty cave but with more sharp rocks stabbing your stomach and digging into your legs. the thing that freaks me out the most is the question "what if there is a dead-end?" I know that they are just a bunch of rocks piled up so if I did get stuck It would be fairly easy to get me out but still. and I go into all of the caves I find head first so If one of these days I do find a dead-end I'm going to have the worst panic attack of my life. You guys are underrated and your kids are extremely brave. 100% earned subscribe!

We also Suffer from a little bit of claustrophobia. But that's also what makes caves so thrilling. We come to dead ends very often. You either after backup all the way or if there's space, turn around. The nightmare is the few can only get partly turned around and get jammed up! Glad youre watching let us know how you're caving goes.

Seeing other people face the fears I have makes me want to do it even more. Sure I don’t particularly want to go into tiny caves but I feel as though I would be better in tight spaces now. So thank you for that :)

I am mesmerized by this whole video! The pools, the small fish, everything. Amazing. How long did u guys were inside the cave?
@CalvinHikes4 жыл бұрын
Not too long. It takes a lot longer because we are filming. And we,re trying to avoid falling in the water. But a couple hours. We loved this cave! It was so Interesting and pretty. And no one will ever go in this cave due to its challenging location and difficult entrance.

@CalvinHikes4 жыл бұрын
Yes we did thank you very much. And do the first person do reference that period we went in the cave with fresh air and came out to the smoke. We were only inside for maybe 2 hours. Fires had started much earlier but the winds had just shifted.

Thanks. We were legitimately concerned. The hill that burned nearest to us was only about a mile away. That's REAL close when you're on foot.

Remember driving from Portland to Eugene through that smoke. Visibility was sometimes well under a 100 feet and when visibility allowed the sky was a weird mix of purple, orange and yellow. It was genuinely uncomfortable to breath and creepy to be in.

It was awful. Even our summer times have clouds. Was so dark for so many weeks. And a lot of people lost homes.

Amazing video great work and videoing. (Btw the next paragraph will be a rant that has nothing to do with this comment, I just want to share this with someone) I find it extremely disrespectful that people are treating people’s deaths like a freaking comic book or cartoon, I keep seeing these comments on videos of people DROWNING on tape and. There’re like oh this “person drowned haha haha big funny joke” and it’s so annoying to me. Ex of this happening was someone saying jokes ab John Jones death. I’m sorry for going on this rant for no reason in your comments, thank you for reading my comment, also I apologize for my grammar and if this comment was hard to understand or read.

Thanks for the comment. It was fine. At first we were shocked by people's reaction to various things on our own videos. But we've learned, just to let it be. I don't know what people are thinking or why they are thinking it. I can barely figure out my own life... we stopped trying to figure out others. We just out here having a good time!
