The Prince got the nickname Bonnie Prince Charlie the day he entered Edinburgh, before that he was know has The Young Pretender or The Young Chevalier(Knight). The Women from the city were the ones that gave it to him. They were really infatuated with him and he liked to tease them for example one time a woman in Edinburgh asked permission to kiss him in the hand he conceded it and another more daring woman asked permission to kiss him in the mouth he then grabbed her and kissed her all over her face she instantly got red has a tomato.

Bonnie Prince Charlie was an entitled, implosive, man-child who screwed Scotland from independence for his own selfish gain that he wasn't even able to get. Had Johnnie Armstrong led the Jacobite's, Scotland would be a free country.

@@TheRamblingRoundhead-c3i I personally think it was a doomed enterprise from the start. He wouldn't had made a difference under the same circumstances. Bonnie Prince Charlie was the best possible figurehead for the rebellion, but they didn't really had any possibility at winning and it shouldn't had happen. 2. He wasn't implosive or behaved like a man-child during or before the rebellion. He did became that, but a few years latter.

Prince Charlie wanted to push on. Apparently, some double agents managed to convince the war council that there were more forces between them and London than there actually were. The only professional government unit was the Black Watch, which was in disgrace for a mutiny a few years before, in addition, there were some hastily thrown together militias. If they had known this, they almost certainly would have made it to London, now holding it is the question. The Butcher Cumberland was already on his way back to deal with the Jacobites, and unless George II surrendered the Royal Navy would probably still have been in government hands, making it difficult for French more support to arrive. But, considering how the story ended, they could have done no worse than to press on.

@@River.E.M not really, jacobites wanted the stuarts to rule over all the British isles not just scotland, and I guarantee charlie wasn't planning on giving them independence after wining, it was a dynastic claim backed by religion. The only people conflating this movement with Scottish independence is the the historically illiterate, had charlie succeeded initial clashes on the border of England and Scotland, he would have hopefully rallied English Catholics to rise up and make up the bulk of the army marching on London.
