Quality bit of editing there Karl and when you start singing I was cracked up! I'm gutted it was so foggy when we went because the view is breathtaking. Will definitely go back there at some point because I can get there in about 3 hours from where we are. I told you yesterday about our upcoming trips so I'll probably be up to about 45 provinces done by the end of he year. Our trees are flourishing too. Maybe I should start uploading videos again and create a serious channel? Oh yeah - it's good to see you showing your mastery of the lingo more often. Now that your editing is starting to get more sophisticated and you can translate what's being said it definitely makes your videos more entertaining. Speak soon bud.

I travelled down to renew my visa in 2008. Was surprised by the stunning view once I had cleared into Cambodia. Was such a contrast from the forested drive to the border in Thailand, how it opened up and Mountain View in the distance. Got a stern ticking off from the Thai’s as I entered back into Thailand, as I was a day or two over my visa entitlement. From memory was a resort just into Cambodia with 1 or 2 Casinos. If only I had known. Another great video Karl.

Karl, I saw Preah Vihear Temple in 2001, and a monk in the temple on top did a water blessing, and I walked out to the view and had an out of body experience. Meaning "I" did not exist, it was all made up as we go along. This started my Buddhist path, and in 2009 I ordained for a month in Fang. 2001 is also when I met my partner as well, and we are married and still together. But with anything wisdom comes slowly, but usually at the right time for one to digest and use it.

In early 2003 I was in Cambodia during the anti-thai riots. A famous thai actress had said that this temple was thai iirc. Oowee! A happy side effect of the unrest was a distinct lack of other tourists when we got to Siem Reap. Wandering the near-empty temple complex was marvelous.

People from Sisaket love a photo with a farrang 😂I remember when I first went to Thailand I was on the morning ferry to Koh Chang and a whole big bus full of them lined up to take a picture with me one family after another, I'm a pretty shy person so it was an odd feeling but also very wholesome. It made me realise how famous people or animals in a zoo must feel 😂after that I had trouble explaining to the men that I had a bad stomach and didn't want to drink whiskey at 8am and so ended up having to do shots with them at 8am sitting by the bus on the cargo deck of the ferry, it is an interaction I will never forget lol

Was very fortunate to be the very first farang foreigner allowed in to the site in the mid 1900's after the United Nations awarded control to the Cambodians after a long running dispute with the Thais. On arrival at the entrance hut on the Thai side with my Thai mate and his retired general dad I was asked to hand over my passport to the Thai officials and was told that they would need it to identify me if I fell foul of the ruthless Khemer Rouge and didn't make it back, I refused btw. As we walked up the mount Khemer Rouge soldiers with mortar launchers sat in dug outs facing the Thai side during the day but dropped over to be with their Thai opponents at night time to hit the piss and play cards. On the way up the mount my Thai mate wanted to 'shoot a rabbit' as the Thais would say (have a pee) but suggested we wander off the path out of respect for the temple precinct. All done and heading back to the path up the hill we realized we had walked into a land mine field. The Khemer boys managed, at a distance, to direct us out. Arrived up the top to be faced with a spectacular wild thunder storm rising up from the valley below. Raced into a little military personal box to find the KR heading out the back door as it had a bloody big steel metal flag pole in the back of it.We thought the same and bolted. Managed to get back down the mount by the 4.30 pm closure time... relieved.
@karlsthailand4 ай бұрын
What a great adventure. You say mid 1900’s…..do you mean mid 1990’s? I visited Cambodia a few times in the 90’s while the KR were still active and they put us on a big, Russian military helicopter from Siem Riep to Phnom Penh because they said it wasn’t safe for us to travel by road. It’s incredible and good that it has changed a lot since then. If only we had KZbin back then eh. Your story would have made the best vlog ever…cheers

i love to see signs of dirty modern😅 living around monuments. in european cities, it seems to always be smog and air pollution doing the damage. it does get scrubbed off ocassionally, as all.photos over time do not display the grime. in this case 15:25, it looks like somebody tried (and were successful) in burning the place down. that certainly matches with cambodia history.

This is a good example of the ignorance and political stubbornness. Why can't we all live together peacefully? Why are we fighting over a few hundred square metres? You could make the temple accessible to everyone from both sides and share the entrance fees. Then everyone would have won and there would be no quarrelling. I visited the Preah Vihear Temple about 18 years ago. Then it was still possible from the Thai side.
