also as a little tip, its good to stick a piece of blue tape on the high spot you're working on so you don't lose track of where it is. And on the bike, use a zip tie as an indicator, so you don't have to hold a marker.
@julengarmendia5 жыл бұрын
Nice video, as always!! Being one of those cheap bastards (Im still studying, don't really got money), I ve found that a couple of zip ties around each side of the swing arm or each of the fork legs work pretty good for truing the wheel. The plastic that sticks out rubs against the high spots and doesnt touch the rest of the wheel and makes it very easy to pick where to tighten the spokes.

Up and down wobble: Hop; high and low, not out of balance, Side to side wobble (not high and low) . Eventually you can ping each spoke to listen for a very high or low pitch( ping, thunk . . .) and tension more evenly. "Balance" is finding the heavy part of "frictionless" rotations and offsetting with weights, might be with stem and rim lock(s) and then add tire and tube

@brentfaulkner19804 жыл бұрын
Ive seen on other videos where they 1/4 turn on the final torque in pattern all the way around until spec is reached, even on the RMATV video. You just torqued one spoke to spec then moved to the next in the pattern. Which way is proper? Obviously in your video you rotated the wheel after torquing it and it stayed true. Just curious, as I have to do this

When you did the truing on front wheel, instead of looking for all spots that needed truing, couldn't you just have tightened all spokes to the recommended factory specs in the supposed sequence and therefore have a true wheel? I noticed when you went back to set the torque specs on the wheel it became much more even, than just finding which spokes needed truing. Or am I just stupid idk lol.
@CameronNiemela5 жыл бұрын
Nope, just torquing the spokes will not true it. It needs manual truing

Will, this process work for an electric hub motor and rim? Basically, the hub is a motor and the wheel is a 26 x 80 mm fat bike wheel, beach cruiser lowrider kinda e-bike. I'm getting my frame powder coated and wanted to powder coat the hub and wheel but they require me to remove the spokes, do they need to be numbered so you put them back in the original spot? This video gave me the confidence to true my wheels and they came out butter thanks! But I'm worried taking them completely off would be hard right? Any info you can share that would be awesome. if you're to busy to respond no worries you paid it forward enough as it is and I respect you for that! If you want to see pictures of my 72 mph DIY E-bike give me your email, it's pretty awesome looking has taken me 8 months, and your videos helped so much on doing finish work it's not much different other than the power source. I bought a spoke torque wrench and figured that would really help get the spoke torque correct. However, after torquing my spokes as described, my front wheel went really out of round. Loosened and re-trued, got it pretty straight, then re-torqued and again it went crazy. I don't know where I got off the path. I torqued no more than 1/4 turn per time around the wheel, doing every third spoke as shown. Frustration.
