Camino de Santiago 2018 with music

Heading for Santiago in Spring 2018. I hadn't planned to make a video, as I wanted to concentrate on the pulgrimage, so only started filming after about 2 weeks on the Camino (around Grañon. Six years later, when a friend invited me to accompany him on part of the Camino, I returned and did some filming between St. Jean and Grañon, and here is the link:

We left SJPP on April 30th - the same day your friend Stephen did. When we got past Orrison there was some snow on the side of the roads. Stephen was pretending to ski through it and having his picture taken. It's really funny the things you remember! Great video, it really took me back :)

Various people have asked about the dates. I started from St. Jean April 29 and finished June 6. The early parts of the journey are under-represented because I did not plan to make a video - in fact I deliberately planned not to make one, in order to concentrate on the journey without distraction. However a moment came when I thought it was silly not to, when familiarity allowed me some spare brain-capacity. Also during the interminable days of the Meseta (Burgos to Leon) it helped to have a project!

Thank you for sharing your excellent video. I would be interested to know the dates you started and finished. My wife and I also walked the Camino last Spring. We left SJPdP on 21 April and arrived in Santiago on 28 May. 35 days walking plus rest days in Burgos and Leon. We were incredibly lucky with the weather. We could see and hear thunderstorms in the distance on quite a few days, but we only had rain on one day. That was the day we walked out of Leon and the wet weather added to the misery of that section. Walking into and out of Leon were our least favourite parts of the walk. I am thinking of repeating the walk and, if I do, I would be tempted to catch a bus for the few miles either side of Leon. We heard from other people who started a few days before us and some who started after us and they had encountered heavy rain, so it appears that we were extremely lucky with our weather window. I too suffered from shin splints. It was a new experience and when the first one hit me (my right shin went first and no sooner had I recovered than my left shin went), I was in agony and was convinced it was the end of my Camino. Thank goodness for ibruprofen! Our Camino was a wonderful experience. We met friendly and interesting people from many different countries. We tried to list the different nationalities we met just on one day. It was a very long list!

Did you cross El Rio Duero in Burgos? I'd have to have a lot of vino to put up with the group noise and highway traffic. I'm very hermit-like. I don't like walking on pavement. I've been to Santiago De Campostela the easy way, como una turista, no como una peregrina. Not sure I can do bed bugs. The interior of the Catedral is not what I imagined. The Way seems more commercialized than I had thought. Did you have medical insurance in Spain? Where did you get your map?

Donna the map was from the tourist office at Roncesvalles, the first stop. There's a story associated with that, described in my book 'Jesus of the Edges' available on Amazon. I came across no bedbugs - heard the Spanish govt have come down hard on that. If the river you mention was on the Camino, I crossed it. Several bridges on the outskirts if Burgos - the scene of another story in my book. W

Aleksandra it's an insulation mat for sleeping, in case I didn't find a bed. I used it the first night in St Jean when I arrived late and had to sleep under a tree, but afterwards I didn't need it. The full story is in my book - see www.captainw.com
