In July 2019, I walked the Camino del Norte from Irun to Oviedo. I walked this same route in 2015 and loved it so much that I was eager to return and see how a second experience would compare. Here's a recap of the first three days!

Loving this! I’m not sure I would dare walk the Norte again because (unsurprisingly) I got horribly lost a few times 😅

Headed to the Norte April 2022 to celebrate the beginning of semi retirement, it will be my first Camino. I'll also attempt the Mont Blue while over there. Thanks for the video and perspective really looking forward to it!!

Hey Nadine, love your videos. Very informative. One question, does Albergue Juvenil mean that only younger people can stay there?

I was there on the 3rd of May this year. The section coming into Zarautz seems to be the alternate route along the biking road 3 kms from Orio. Wish I had taken that one instead of going down the Romana "road"... wrecked knee and quad tears... but went as far as I could before considering it would cause permanent damage. You look like you enjoyed the Ruta de Coasta a lot. Buen Caminos

Ahh, very helpful information! I guess I didn't realize there was an alternate route! And yes, I really loved the Norte so much, there's something very special about it!

Hey. Very nice video and cute toes/beer at end! I am still torn between del Norte and Frances for my first Camino/September. Something about del Norte is pulling me in and I like a bit more remote and quiet. But I also think the Frances experience could be awesome. I hike tons so not concerned about the physicality of either. Ugh!!!! I think del Norte! Thoughts?
@NadineWalks
@NadineWalks Жыл бұрын
This, to me, is almost an impossible question! I usually recommend the Francés for a first Camino, but in this case, I'm not sure... and it's mostly because. you say there's something a bout the Norte that's pulling you in. The experience on the Frances IS really special, and it's more obviously "Camino", if that makes any sense. Like, you don't have to work hard to find the feel of the Camino, because it's really everywhere on that route (plus, so many others are also walking for their first time). But I think the Norte is just so special, and I've met great, great people when I've walked. It's a route that I imagine myself returning to, time and time again, throughout my life. So, maybe give it just a bit more thought but then don't overthink it and just go with your gut. You'll love it, whatever you decide!

@@NadineWalks Thanks Nadine. It's a tough decision. Probably will do the Frances first. Maybe the Norte second.

beautiful video, thank you so much! i'm walking the Norte in May 2023 and am concerned about getting lost! are the options for routes pretty well marked?
@NadineWalks
@NadineWalks Жыл бұрын
Yes, the route is pretty well marked! There may be a few confusing spots (I can't remember specifics, though), but I really like using the Buen Camino app, which has GPS marking the route and you can see exactly where you are and where the path of the Camino is. I don't tend to use the GPS much, but it's helpful for the rare time that I lose the path or feel a bit confused. But, generally, the Norte is a well traveled Camino and has good markings!

I noticed that you had done all the Caminos I intended to do next year. I'll do my third French, second Portuguese (but last time in 2019, I started in Tui after the French), my first North and this time I do intend to also do Muxía and Finisterre. I have a few questions: What would be the best order? French, North, than Portuguese? Best moment to do Muxía Finisterre? How long I will need? At the Moment I am planning to do from June 20th to September 20th... . I CAN start earlier. This year I done the French from April to end of May and flew back to Brazil in June. The French was very cold on the first 2 weeks and I did not have the proper outfit for the extreme weather. The day after I passed Saint-Jean-Pied there was a snow storm and the path was closed from Orisson to Rocesvalles a few days yearly a Brazilian had died 5 km frm Zubiri.

Your plan sounds really wonderful, and hopefully will be a good, LONG walk! I'm not sure how well I'll be able to answer your questions, because I think the answers depend on many different factors; also, every person is different so I might like a certain 'order' of Camino's, and someone else might suggest another! But, in general, it makes sense to me to start with a physically 'easier' route- like the Francés, before walking the Norte (which is a little more challenging). This way your body will be used to the walking and can tackle some of the ups and downs of the Norte more easily. And, to finish with the Portuguese also makes geographical sense, in a way. When to do Finisterre/Muxia I think might be best left to how you're feeling! When I walked this summer, at first I thought it would be the VERY last Camino route I would walk- I loved the idea of finishing at the end of the world. But when I reached Santiago I still had about two weeks to walk, and I wasn't ready to get on a bus/train to go to the Portuguese route, so I just kept walking and did Finisterre/Muxia first, and then took a train to Vigo. So maybe think about how you're feeling in the moment! And the length of time is too difficult for me to answer- but you might be able to judge about how long these routes might take based on your past experiences/length of days, etc. Good luck and Buen Camino!

@NadineWalks
@NadineWalks Жыл бұрын
When I first walked (way back in 2015), I used the Cicerone guide for the Norte/Primitivo, and I liked it well enough. Now I tend to use apps more than guidebooks- Buen Camino app and gronze.com are my go-to's!

@@williamgiovinazzo8523 I still like having a guidebook in my hands, but I've definitely gotten used to using the apps in the last few years. Gronze is actually a website (no app that I know of), so maybe that will make it a little easier??

Hi, so if you walked the Del Norte, to Oviedo, and then went to Santiago, did you get 2 certificates one for the Del Norte, and one for the Primativo?
@NadineWalks
@NadineWalks 10 ай бұрын
Just one certificate! You've got to walk the last 100 kilometers into Santiago for the compostela, so technically, my certificate would have been for the Primitivo.
