Hey guys, that is my car in the vid. One thing I want to clarify is the car picked up 35 WHP with the cam (on Peitz Performance Mustang Dyno)over the baseline dyno which was Full Bolt-On on 93, so the total gain with FBO and the cam on E85 is between 60 to 70 WHP over STOCK. The car was making 456HP/467TQ SAE Corrected on Dynojet, FBO on E85 before the cam. The car made 428HP/432TQ on that same Dynojet when stock, 4 years ago. I have not made it back to that dyno since having the cam installed two weeks ago, but would anticipate around 485-490-ish WHP on that same Dynojet with the cam. The car went a best 11.56 @ 117 FBO(w/stock cam) on E85 in +400 DA at 4555lb race weight. I am expecting the car to pick up .2 and around 2 mph with the cam, which would put it in 11.30's at close to 120, which may not set the world on fire, but is pretty good IMO for a full weight SRT 392 Charger. Should surprise some folks none the less.

Ok this makes more since I was figuring there is no way this car isn’t putting down at least 490-500 whp with those mods. Usually 392s with full bolt ons and a cam put down that much power to the wheels.

I can tell you the car low 12.'s @ 114 to.115 when the car was stock on a 20" Drag Radial. With FBO(stock cam) on 93, the car went a best of 11.62 @ 117.2. That same set up on E85 went 11.56 @ 117.8. Just got car back with cam less than 2 weeks ago, but am going to track this Saturday unless it gets called off due to all the Coronavirus stuff. Last time I ran X's Cat on Black key(stock cam) he put about 1/2 car to 1 car on me. As you saw in the vid, with the cam, I put a full car on him every time, so the car picked up about 2.5 to 3 car lengths over the stock cam with FBO, which should translate to 2 to 3 tenths and a commensurate MPH gain in 1/4. I can tell you the car is considerably faster with the cam over the car FBO w/ stock cam, and I have already pulled Mrs X's Scat Pack Shaker by about 2 cars on the same night I initially ran X's Hellcat in Black key mode(when he pulled me). @@clauderatliff697 I got the cam through Peitz Performance Tunes in Cypress, TX. They also handled the install and tuning. Name of the cam is CD-01 and is ground by Comp Cams. It was Spec'd by Brian Mason(BMason on KZbin) and is loosely based on their Comp 270 grind but with more aggressive lobe profiles and tighter LSA and LCA. Cam was designed to retain driveability as well.as the low end and mid range TQ and HP production that is the 392's calling card while significantly enhancing top end HP taking better advantage of the capability of the Apache cylinder head flow. You said it yourself being out on the street or track is the true way to test these kind of things rather than going off of Dyno numbers and what not. @@ryanfuelling1983 Hey brotther, we actually ran my car against Mrs. X's car when my car was FBO on 93 prior to the cam install and I consistently pulled her by about 1 to 2 cars. Those races are actually in the same video I raced X's Hellcat in Black key mode where he pulled me by about a car(this was in March last year). My car with FBO(stock cam) on E85 and Drag Pack at 4555lb race weight went a best of 11.56 at 117.8 in +400 DA back in January. Mrs. X's Scat has gone a best of 11.79 @ 116 in -500 DA on my Drag Pack at race weight of around 4350lbs, weekend before last at Demonology Call-Out. Against X's Hellcat in Black.Key mode, after the cam my car picked up about 3 cars total...going from a car behind(FBO/stock cam on 93) to a full car ahead(FBO/cam/E85). Keeping in mind that X's car in 500HP mode is making more than 500 HP by virtue of its supporting mods. He also has 3.09 gear(vs stock Hellcat 2.62) and was on his 17" Racestars w/ Mickey Thompson.305/45 ET street R's which are shorter than the 20" 305/35.Nitto's I was on. That said, I would gladly run Mrs. X's car again so.you guys can see the actual real world difference between a.stock 392 Challenger on 93 and a FBO/cam 392 Charger on E85... I would also love to run a stock 392.Charger to see real world difference weight to weight.👍👊

Did this to a 6.1 SRT8 Challenger. Granted it's not the same as a 392 but the principles are the same- you want more air/fuel in, a hotter cam, more exhaust out, and absolutely a tune to tie it all together and map the curves to your liking and use. It has ever thus been.

Correct. Name of the cam is CD-01. Not a heavy chopping cam in terms of sound, but the drive ability and performance was fantastic. Would do it again.

So many ramble and leave out cost fact etc. I love the 'what does xxx do to a 392' vids, because my 2013 Daytona is MY creation, with a 392 stick non MDS crate motor, FTI 3500 stall, JBA long tubes/cats, 3.73 Getrag, Brembos, 4 point braces, sway bars etc etc All done a piece at a time - so, no, I'm not just getting a used hellcat to swim with the common fish. i want a cam now, not boost. Don't need that much street power and don't want to blow it up. Please do a vid on cammed 392 cars - cam specs, mods, results. thanks for your help in the community!

Yes it’s really worth it. I did crower cam, afe gt momentum, hellcat fuel injectors (running e85), ported manifold and tb kooks long tube headers and made more power than what he did.

Hey Ken, it picked up a little over 20ft.lbs. TQ across the rev range and carries it further, which really surprised me. I didn't want to lose the low end throttle response that makes the 392 so much fun to.drive. i wasn't really expecting to pick up much down low, so I was pretty stoked when it picked up.over 20. The 3rd gear roll you see in the vid, I was only at 3000 RPM while X was on his 17" Race set up and the cam stayed with him on the initial hit and pulled away up top, even at that low RPM👍

In my hellcat "black key mode " feels really unnatural. And what I mean by that is that the engine is made for 707 hp and tuned for such and detuning the engine (electronically via computer) to 500hp is in no way, shape or form a tuned version of that engine. My stock scat pack Challenger I had felt faster then that. That being said, this is the most tasteful 392 upgrade ive seen on youtube thus far!

@Ghostmee Main reason we were running his Hellcat in Black Key mode was that we had done it previously before the cam install, so we just wanted to see a true apples to apples comparison vs when we ran before. Last time my car was FBO w/stock cam on 93 and the race was close but he was able to put about a 1/2 car to a car on me. Keep in mind, his car even in Black Key mode is actually more like 530 to.540 HP mode due to his supporting mods and he also has the 3.09 gears vs stock Hellcat's 2.62(which makes a huge difference on the Cats). All in all, it was encouraging for me to see my car pull Xcesiv this time, especially up top where the stock cam 392 runs into a wall.👍

Its not a mind thing either, when I went to test drive my Hellcat my initial thoughts were my scat pack is faster why would I spend all this money on this car? Then i remembered the whole black keyfob/red keyfob thing. And 500 hp mode is still more Hp than the stock 485 on the scat pack.

I saw a 392 with a cam at 443 RWHP on the same dyno my stock 392 hit 425 RWHP - that is not enough gain for me considering the cost - especially since I already have MDS delete and upgraded rollers.

Great video again RaysirX! I’m thinking you’re the best for this question. What tires should i get for my 2020 Daytona Charger WB Hellcat? It has the 305s all around. I was thinking of going 315s -Trying to decide on a brand from all these youtubers but it’s hard- most go to track. Now i won’t be going to the track. This is just for the street to get the most traction with the most traction in the rain? I know those 2 are very hard to accomplish in these cars, but if you were me and want to hook and still have a little rain traction which tire would you pick? Also, do you drive your car in 500hp when it’s raining or any other tricks? I’m in Florida so the summer rains are unavoidable, they pop up in a second and bomb you for an hour & then they’re gone.

Meat Ball .. I would run the same tire that both Rob and I run.. the Nitto NT555R in a 305 👍. It’s a drag radials but still does ok in the rain. It is your best bet to hook. It’s not as sticky as the Mickey Thompson but those are not good at all in the rain ..

If you ever get a chance to drive these new Widebody chargers you’d be surprised on the handling (with the whole new suspension) and they even hook better on these stock Pirelli tires somehow. Hopefully GM doesn’t close for this Corona and stall your vette. Fingers crossed 🤞 Streetspeed717 and TJ hunt are putting out some cool content on the vette. TJ has set up to put twin turbos in it soon. Stay safe brother!

That should be average pick up. Don’t know why the other guy only picked up 35whp with his cam. The 392 is a big engine with two spark plugs per cylinder. Lt1 with I picked up 140 whp from stock with long tubes , ported msd intake , ported Tb, e85 , ported heads and a small barley state 1 stock converter cam if I had went with a stage 3 cam and max effort heads could have make 600+ whp plenty of 6th gen ss and grand sports make that n/a with the right cam and heads and still drive well.

Is a cam on a 6.4 worth it? Well, you're eventually going to have to delete MDS and replace the lifters, so you might as well do a cam and lifters as "preventative maintenance."

Hey brother, that is my car in the vid. Thanks for the kind words man. With the tune, bolt-ons and cam, the car picked up right at 63WHP over stock. Keep in mind that chassis Dyno's can be a little finicky with numbers, but it's safe to assume 60 to 70 WHP over stock. So I would assume the car is making somewhere around 555-560 at the flywheel. Once again, not earth shattering, but the car is a blast to drive and fast enough to catch some unsuspecting Mustangs, Camaro's and even Mopar brethren off guard:-)

I have a 2019 widebody challenger scat and in 2 years I will either do something similar to your build or trade up to a hellcat.....I go back and forth in the better option

Mike Reeves Love those widebodys! 🔥 I’m in the same situation with my 392 but I love it so i’m trying not to sell it. I would recommend on deciding whether on how much power you want to make. If you want crazy power then get the hellcat. But if its just going to be a stock hellcat then hell with that. My 392 charger is also cammed and making about the same horsepower as quick bricks. You will not regret camming the 392. You can build up your car and make it just as badass as a hellcat. Just depends on how much power and how much money you want to spend

@Mike Reeves Well, main reason is the car is paid for(bought new in 2015). I knew the Long Tubes, exhaust, Unlocked PCM and assorted bolt-ons I've accumulated over the last 4 years would work well with a cam and while the cam upgrade isn't terribly cheap, it's a Hell of a lot less than going into debt on another vehicle, even taking into account the equity in my car...plus I get to stay married😉👍

Can you give the specs on the B Mason cam? I am going to do a stage three kit with National Speed within a year or so. I like that low end and mid range torque and hp increase. Not to concerned with top end, just want a harder pull like that appears to have. And by the way, welcome to Florida Racer X. I'm outside of Tampa. Once I am done with my build we will have to meet up.

@RacerX I absolutely love the videos you put out on the scat packs. I bought a widebody in Jan 2020 and all your videos helped me come to that decision, while I would love a hellcat right now, wasn't in the budget. Living in CA I'm very limited to what I can do to the car. The best investment I've done so far is I've installed AE delete plates and cut out the mid mufflers, couldn't be happier with the way it sounds now. Recommendations from my mechanic were cold air, throttle body and tuner. Couple questions: how important is the intake porting and how much do you think roughly? I did a bolt on CAI and tuner on my 8.1L Suburban, made a world of difference, this car is a bit different as you well know lol. Also would you happen to know where to start to find the right tuner guy in my area. Live in Northern CA, just not sure my mechanic is the right guy for that portion. Keep up the great videos, I enjoy every single one of them, also Mrs. X is rocking it!!! Thank you for your time in advance...

Anthony Gomez .. thank you my friend. The tune is critical and most really good tuners can tune it remotely. My guy (Peitz Performance) is out of Houston but can tune remotely as long as you have a dyno available in your area. In porter intake will help but will likely not pick up a ton .. perhaps 8-10hp .. the mid muffler delete is a nice mid and cost is minimal 👍

@Ghost - As the car sits it is probably between a Stock 392 & Stock Hellcat in terms of power production. The 392's are factory rated at 485 Flywheel HP, while Hellcats are of course 707/717 Flywheel HP. My car is likely making somewhere just shy of 600 Flywheel HP. Stock Hellcat Chargers typically trap 124-ish(give or take) in the 1/4 in good air. My car should trap around 120. That said, if I catch a Stock Hellcat asleep at the tree, my car is fast enough that he will have his work cut out for him to catch me. All that said, the short answer to.your question is...Yes, a stock Hellcat is faster. There is however also something to be said for a stronger than average running N/A, 4 door sedan IMO. 😁👍👊

I did a supercharge (maggasion kit) on my 2016 6.4 menual challenger srt392. I did a comparison with hellcat. I feel my 6.4 it's way faster and snappier then the hellcat for the first 4 gears. Hellcat 6.2 it's way too smooth and lack of the antibiotic rage for the first 4 gears 🤔🤔.my 6.4 gets seriously responsed while I switch gears. 🙄 Whats the point to buy a hellcat. 🤔 🤔 🤔

A cam is not usually bought to try to fix the power. They're usually bought to fix the sound of the car that the company screwed up when they built the motor these Factory muscle cars should come from the factory sounding like the cars from the 60s

You are correct...Car picked up 35 WHP with the cam over and above FBO baseline(w/ stock cam). I apologize I didn't do a better job of explaining that in the vid. My bad:-)

5k for a cam swap and probably another 5k in bolt ons. At that point why not just go Hellcat? The warranty is voided anyway on the Scat.

Racer, I gotta tell ya, the chargers are really really growing on me. ( I just bought my first dodge 3 months ago, SP Challenger, love it!). Wanna ask ya why you went charger over Challenger for a hellcat? Mostly because you already had a chalky in the household? If it weren't for that, would you have opted for the Challenger? Curious.

(I am just generally curious, can't really do anything to my 392 Charger here in Commiefornia, but the Charger is just my daily driver, the Barracuda is my go-fast toy). @1968 Barricuda - The wheels are BC Forged HCS 35//2 piece Modular Construction//20x9.5F//20x11R//Brushed Dark Black Rims & Barrels//Matte Black Face//Exposed Stainless Steel Hardware. The cam is called CD-01 and was Spec'd by a good friend of mine(BMason on KZbin) and ground by Comp Cams. Being that the cam is a propietary spec, I am not at liberty to give specifics but can tell you that it is sold through Peitz Performance Tunes in Cypress, TX. and is similar to the Comp 270 grind but has a more aggressive lobe profile, utilizes a tighter LSA and is ground on different LCA. Brian designed the cam to maintain driveability and low-end/midrange power production while acting like a longer duration cam up top to take advantage of the Apache cylinder head flow capabilities. This cam picked up Power and Torque everywhere, and didn't lose power anywhere. Cams are typically a compromise of driveability/low-end TQ & HP for top end HP, but this one really seems to be a Win/Win. I am really happy with it.👍

I can also tell you that with FBO w/stock cam on a Drag Pack, the car's best 1/4 slip was: 1.64 60'//7.38 @ 94//11.56 @ 117.8 at 4555 lb Race Weight in +400' DA... Was supposed to go.to track this weekend, but the f@cking Coronavirus got it cancelled... I am expecting the car to run 11.30's at close to.120 in similar DA(+400'-ish) as her best before the cam. Car is discernibly stronger with the cam. I was actually not expecting the difference to be as stark as it was. At this juncture, it looks like it may well into the summer before tracks are open again. 😥

i decided to cam my charger since im a dodge tech and can do the work myself. the car has never seen a dyno so i have no clue what numbers it produces and i really dont care to know. lets just say im the current record holder for fastest cam only charger scat right now. unfortunately i dont have recent track videos on my youtube since i cant find anyone to record lol. remember, trap speed and et matters :)

The reason the scat pack won is because his tire/wheel setup is better. It looks like the hellcat is running winter or all season tires.

The hellcat had race tires.. 17” ET Street R’s in 305x45x17 .. that should have given the hellcat the advantage

Been over this video and the one from the 1/8th run vs MrsX' car, so many times as just love the view as you start walking the challenger. So you have 17" rims on the track setup, what tire size? I just bought a 2020 Charger Scat Pack in white and watching/listening to your car makes me want to run out and duplicate your FBO and cam setup as it's just as perfect as it gets in my mind. Make sure RacerX keeps us informed and shows you in more videos.

Still the stock air box even with all the other mods. Bound to be a good bit of power to be freed up without the restriction. Get a JLT
