RacerX The 1320 challenger did a high 11 sec q mile stock. That’s as fast as a Corvette stingray so wait and aerodynamics have very little play in the grand scheme of things. It’s a way less powerful cars are marketed to us. When you look at results of vehicles it’s almost ironic to talk about weight because the heavier cars are typically faster. Not to mention the difference is only a few hundred pounds between most sports cars and the Nissan GTR which weighs over 3910 LBS without any options is the 4th best track car ever made. Because of how the weight is centered it hugs the road way better than most track oriented cars an is a 10 sec car with under 600hp

Dodge is fine. The problem is the builders do not match the cam to the car. This car is not bad . The area under the the curve is nice. Tighten the Lsa add some lift and put the duration in the 230-235 range on the intake. You can run a single pattern but stretching the exhaust out a little will help the top end carry. The Tomahawk 2.0 is probably the best street cam for a 392 with a noticeable idle. The Titan II is the biggest stock piston but i dont like the 116lsa which gives up 3-4lbft per degree under about 3800rpm. Should make more peak though. If you flycut the pistons or use after, the Trident would be a max effort cam but should be ok on the bottom end because of the LSA staying fairly tight at 112. 232int 244exh 635lift with 108-110 LSA would be a monster.

Very impressed with the HP gain, for a cam that is slightly larger than stock. I’m a bit interested in why he ported his intake without porting his heads? Not a lot of people take the time to study camshafts. A lot people like to assume that slapping a larger cam into a car would give them large HP/TQ gain in return. Unfortunately it does not work like that. I understand why he chose the mild cam that is a tiny bit larger than his stock cam. If he were to put a larger cam he’ll need larger heads to accommodate the larger cam. As well as needing a larger stall converter if he’s running an automatic. And after all that is said and done will the transmission hold up with the transfer of power. There just so much one would have to consider when buying a camshaft. Of course there’s always the group that says “with that amount of money you can get a hellcat”. I would honestly prefer to build my car the way I’d like to build it. Than to buy one. But that’s just me. All in all I love all of your videos racerX keep it up bud!
@quickbrick25944 жыл бұрын
@kevin chaparro... Hey brother, thanks for the reply. We talked about porting the heads, and the main reason we didn't is because the factory heads are already badass as cast. The factory ports are huge and already flow more than enough to support just about any amount of HP you can make Naturally Aspirated. Also, if the heads are ported, you gain volume, but you lose velocity, which is paramount to torque production and throttle response on a street driven car that weighs what these things do. On the factory 392's, the limiting factor is actually the intake manifold. That said, in a car that weighs 4600 lbs(with me in the car), it was imperative that we maintain torque to get her big ass out of the hole at the track and to maintain low end throttle response and that fun to drive factor on the street.👍👊
@kevinchaparro46104 жыл бұрын
Quick Brick I honestly never knew that, the stick heads definitely live up. Normally from what I know porting both heads an intake are definitely recommended. I’m very interested on the rest of the engine build. I know you probably don’t want to let all the secrets out. But all in all you have a pretty mean charger.

Nice 392! Im always on the fence about certain mods and someone’s intentions behind them. The 392 is the performance V8 and its setup very well from the factory. Theres not a ton of room for improvement without sacrificing drivability or going forced induction. If your goal is to make hellcat power out of a 392, just get a hellcat. Building a car is fun either way, but after investing so much in mods, you could’ve bought a hellcat. Based on the mods, the owner in the video probably hasnt sunk too much into the car yet.

That said it will be next Fall before I get that opportunity. The only time I've had a chance to run the car in 1/4 since the cam install, was mid May when DA was around 1300' with high humidity and a 10-15 mph headwind. Car went 11.61 @ 118.1 with a 1.70 60'. I cannot wait to see what she does when I have an opportunity to run her in same conditions she ran pre-cam best ET in. Just sucks I gotta wait a while before those conditions roll back around again. I think the car will go 11.30's/11.40's at 119 to 120 full weight(interior) on a Drag Pack. I am considering a conservative converter to help pull her 4560 lb ass(with me) out of the hole. The Cam makes more power & torque everywhere above 2500 rpm, and absolutely RIPS on the street, but when she dead hooks on a prepped surface, it takes that N-th of a seccond for the motor get "on top" of the cam on the stock converter. Just gonna tweak it from here because I am beyond happy with the responsiveness/mannerisms and overall performance of the car with the cam, especially how much harder the car pulls on the big end, where she used to peter out.👍👊

I would've opened up the air box and removed the filter - then did a pull on the dyno to see if it significantly changes. Intake vs. exhaust, the 6.4/394 stock is constrained on the intake. With a bigger lift it's going to want to breath more. He's got LT headers, high flow cats, and performance cat back exhaust so that seems plenty open - but the stock air box with Hellcat paper filter has me somewhat concerned about the intake (the experiment above would let you know if he's leaving HP on the table). He could also try ported heads. Better CAI and ported heads I'd wager he'd hit 500 whp.

I’m a noob when it comes to car mods. Isn’t there already a cam shaft in the car so what are you changing ? Also do putting a cam on it increase horsepower if so how ?
@bluephoenix3834 жыл бұрын
Yes it already has a camshaft they changed it out for a bigger one. It lets the valves open longer to let more air and fuel in the cylinder to make more power short answer

NA engine would be better to own for the long run. Fewer problems. I'd rather have the scat. What I'd like to hear about here are lifter/cam issues. Is it a real problem?
@quickbrick25944 жыл бұрын
@James L...The lifter/cam issues you hear about are primarily on higher mileage 5.7's and are due to an oil starvation issue that is inherent in the design/operation of the MDS(otherwise known as DOD) lifters...The 6.4's paired with the automatic share the same lifters, so they are susceptible to the same issue, but you don't see it as often on 6.4's as 5.7's because there are far fewer higher mileage 6.4's out there as opposed to 5.7's. One advantage to upgrading the cam is that it eliminates the oil starvation issue because the DOD lifters are not utilized with an aftermarket cam. (Most common lifters utilized with an aftermarket cam are the Hellcat lifters). Also...If you are tuned, you can disable the DOD feature, which will help because it prevents the DOD lifters from being starved for oil. Just my .02.

@@quickbrick2594 I just watched uncle tony's take on it. I would think if he's right, it wouldn't matter if it's a 5.7, 6.4 or 6.2. It also seems to happen in vehicles without MDS, like earlier trucks and manual transmission vehicles. That said, I think MDS is a bad idea. AFM on the LS engines was and is a disaster. For me, I'd buy either a 5.7 or 6.4 and keep it stock. I am not going to modify anything I am making payments on and/or is under warranty. According to uncle Tony, it's an engineering flaw where the cam gets insufficient lubrication splash from the rods/crank. The cam sits too high and is blocked by an oil gallery. If that is the case, there's no real fix. Not a cheap one. I'd like to hear more about it before I pay a lot of money for a car.
@TheBb6prelude4 жыл бұрын
I'm with that same mindset. I prefer simple stock bottom end setups with head work and bolt on parts. That's a reliable setup that works.
@xnbk-yotiex52474 жыл бұрын
Hi Racer X, do you think it’s possible to make close to 500 rear wheel hp in a scat that is still really reliable without have to change pistons or the rings or modding the trans?I heard the rings are the weak spot for these engines. My goal is to get this motor to around 500 to 550 rear wheel hp on natural aspirated. Thanks . Love the channel!
@joshreynolds7292 жыл бұрын
I’m not racer x but maybe I can help. You can get close to 500whp but 550 is a stretch fbo e85 tune full exhaust. However, you can use nitrous but then you still run into ring and piston failures. What many guys do on the cheap for boost or nitrous is grind the ring gap to except more expansion with the extra heat but then the wrist pins and piston skirts tend to come apart if pushed to far but with a small shot you should be fine. But in all reality yes you can make close to 500whp with good head work and porting, cam exhaust/headers hellcat air box on with trans tune and motor tune which raises the rpm up and optimizes fuel and ignition timing. Got to take the heads off to do cam anyways also throttle body helps. My point is to get everything out of this motor you going to be paying a lot of money in parts and labor and your already heavier than the competition so at that point you might as well just build the motor you don’t even got to boost it to make the numbers you want if you fully build it. then you just set it up for boost in the build to run low compression higher displacement by punch it out to a 426 ci with cam, rotating assembly rods, then add boost later and kill hellcats. Another option is to just buy a new motor alleviate the labor crap with shops. Pull yours and sell it then turn around get a loan for another 10k buy a boost ready motor that’s built from say people like Steve white ect. Drop it in get it tuned with supporting fuel system and your good. Although I don’t own one but I do own a hc and have driven scats. All and all it comes pretty well equipped from the factory and truthfully if they weighed 3700 lbs they would eat everything out stock but they are not. Personally man it’s to much money just keep it stock as a fast daily and buy cheap light car and mod that for much cheaper needing less hp to compete as weight is less which translates to reliability also the trans in these cars are expected to move 2 tons plus with mods. These transmissions are rated for a certain tq number after that you got to upgrade and even more so when the car is a tank. So my advice to you is save your money buy a old school car that weighs 3400lbs and is actual muscle then drop a new motor in that for cheaper and will turn more heads holding value unlike a scat. Remember you don’t get a return on mods unless it’s a true muscle car as in old school and the mods are tasteful but get really performance mods don’t net cash people see them as a head ache because they question the quality of work done and then they question the existing life the motor has in it based on the fact you probably beat the shit out of it. Sorry a bit late probably just looked at the time frame 🤣 sorry for the late book. Hope it helps.

@PatrickScottlxw4 жыл бұрын
It was a oiling issue which destroyed cams due to lifter failer
@quickbrick25944 жыл бұрын
@willbreaker 21... The cam failures are actually due the Disolacement On Demand lifters failing(Displacement On Demand is the feature that enables the engine to run on 4 cylinders when not under load). The DOD lifters are prone to failure due to an oil starvation issue that is inherent in their design. One of the "Pros" to doing the cam swap is it does away with that feature in favor of Hellcat lifters which do not have the oil starvation issue. 👍

Have you dyno your cars see what they actually make not what dealer says cus by dealer saying the 392 is 485hp

485 HP is a representation of what the engine makes alone (crank). Once powering the wheels it’s referred to as wheel horse power. What the engine transmits to the tires after drivetrain loss.
