It’s so refreshing to hear his story and know I’m not alone. I haven’t spoken to my mother in over 17 years. This is a woman that is never happy of my achievements and constantly comparing me to my siblings. I remember buying her gifts at Christmas and she wouldn’t even open them. Years later the unopened gift is left on her dresser. She would give me the silent treatment for weeks because I wanted to be a Christian. When I graduated from College she said she wasn’t going to attend because I invited my biological father to attend. When I got my first corporate job she asked me if it’s a graduate job because my sibling has a graduate job. When I told her it wasn’t, she didn’t even say congratulations. Toxic mothers are draining and it’s only by God’s grace that my mental health was not shattered.

She let her brothers molest me. Fast forward I'm a college graduate and do a lot for children, homeless, etc. I never had children because I was afraid of what would happen to them. I'm 50 now and grieving her, finding her, her not loving me and I was never enough. 2 degrees with a 3.8 GPA just NEVER ENOUGH. I forgive her, I even took her Dvds she borrowed back to the Library. My mother was mean and very abusive, and when she found out that my stepfather had SA me, she blamed me... the child. She chose him over me. I joined the military after graduation, served 20 years, and never looked back. My stepfather recently died and guess who showed up at my door? She claimed that she missed me but within a a few hours she asked to move in, I said no. She abused me as a child and chose the devil over her own daughter, now that the devil has died she expects me to open my arms to her. I come from a close-knit southern family and there are several who are upset with me because they feel it's my responsibility to take care of her, simply because she's my mother. I dont agree. I am the victim of her cruelty, abuse and took the blame for what my stepfather did to me. If I am wrong...I pray that god forgives me.

We are all in this together. I'm 41 found out my father wasn't my father last November. I haven't spoken to my mother since then. She did the same thing Kirk's mother did. She said the test was fake and all that dumb ass shit. Then she had the nerve to try and convince my son the test was fake. My father said that the test was real and she needed to tell the truth. She still hasn't told the truth and never will. The sad part is an aunt made mention of it and the man's name who was supposed to be my father about 10 years ago. I didn't act on it because my cousin had just passed also and I was grieving. My father said he wasn't going to change me because we were both lied to and it was not our fault. The same aunt mentioned it again last year and I asked my dad again this time I said I wanted a DNA test and he agreed. Sadly, they allowed my father to pay Child support knowing he was being lied on. They act like they are scared of her because she does all that cursing etc the same aunt became a closed lip and she dropped the bomb and it was verified. I'm not scared of her so she doesn't play with me. She has always favored my sister but I was the one she ran to for money. I cut ties with them all and I have been at peace enjoying life. What I learned is this, if you condone that type of behavior and deal with a person who has messed over so many people you are just like her so I let them devils have each other.

Now my dad did the same but he eventually got clean and took accountability. Not her. She continues to lie and act like she did nothing wrong. And like yours will give the world to my sister who basically uses her while slandering me to anybody that will listen. I've had to cut mine out of my life also and my only regret is not doing so years ago. Praying for your continued peace and prosperity, and all the good things you deserve out of this life!!

Her sister told me everything but didn't say what she said it takes two to talk. I cut everyone off they weren’t helping me in any way nothing at all. I was beneficial to them so I don't miss the mess at all. It was mess seems like every other week something was said and that's been going on all my life. Our mother is at the point of dementia and I'm trying so hard to pull the family together to assist with taking care of her while she's in her final stages. I can't help but understand their , ( my siblings) dis- connect when it comes to prioritizing, and sacrificing for our mother the way I do. Please pray for my strength as I remove her from the Nursing home for her to spend the rest of her days left at home with family.❤ P.s.. Kirk is correct when he stated he wasn’t the only one I’m a witness to that true statement. My mother hated me to the point she tried to have me killed I was 19, I was 27 when I received a phone call from the man that she hired. He said that we needed to talk, we spent two hours on the phone and he told me every detail, he told me guilt ate at him when he left our house he shot himself and still carries that bullet in him to this day. The hate that my mother had for me she spreaded it to my half sister and brother. When she died I felt nothing I tried to cry but I couldn’t, I stood by her coffin and said all I every wanted was a huge and to hear her say I love you.

And who knows what happened. I've talked with a lot of older women who say they had no say-so when it came to their bodies. That's where the saying she's in the family's way' come from. I got into a car accident and had to walk around on crutches. My mother went from saying I shouldn’t sue the woman that hit me to wanting some of the lawsuit money once she found out I was going to court. When she found out I was going to give some money to help my gf’s mama out because she did a lot for me, she told me she was going to kick me out the house. I came back home one night in the rain on crutches and she was with her friend inside the house laughing as I’m knocking on the door. This was a suburban area so someone ended up calling cops and when they came I told them my mother wasn’t letting me in. Soon as she opened the door she broke into a crying fit and lied saying I abuse her and she got her friend and my sister to co-sign the lie. Throughout all things she did, never once thought she’d lie to the police on her own son. That night I cried and knew I really didn’t have a mother that cared for me. That’s a dark place for a child man. She would value money over her own blood.

This is so heartbreaking, I couldn't imagine being rejected by my mother. The bible says, Psalms 27:10, If my mother and father forsake me, then the Lord will take me up. Praises to the Most High for being faithful of His word! Many blessing to you Bro. Kirk.

It's so many hurt people in this world and when you don't know how to deal and what to do with that trauma and pain. We get the world we live in today and then you have people who have found a way to mask all of what they have been through almost like a functioning addict. My kids where mad a me for putting them in therapy when they were younger but I just didn't want my kids to grow up with any hurt pain trauma and didn't have a outlet to figure out what to do with anything pertaining to everyday life. This was a very good episode actually to close for comfort💚💚

This episode really made my cry fr fr. I have never felt so connected to Kirk Franklin until now. My mother broke my heart as well. It's painful to the core of a man. I appreciate this man for sharing his pain. It's an ashame because our mothers dont realize that we are natural mama's boys. However, when your mother chooses a wordly man over the man that God gave her, it is truly sad. Like Kirk, I'll never wish nothing but best God's best for my mother, and I will always be in debt to my mother for giving me life. With that said, I've never been whole

@@ChristopherInTexas the verse in the Word saying honor your parents, that applies to parents who take care of business in the parenting roles, that doesn't apply to parents who don't do it, despite having the title of parent and they're not going beyond the title as well as those who are absent, abuse, abandon, and neglect their offspring.

As someone going through something similar, I honor my parents by living an honorable life. When others see how I live my life, they assume my parents raised me well. My parents think that honor means “obey” them, even as a married adult. However, if obeying them results in disobeying God, then I would be idolizing my parents and disobeying God. So while I am always respectful to them, my boundaries are in place and I protect my peace at all times.

I can deeply empathize with his pain and the hurt in his eyes. I grew up with a toxic mother. A mother so toxic she ran all of her children out of the house before we were 18. She chose her boyfriend and accused me of lying about something terrible he tried to do multiple times-you can imagine what he tried to do. I had to leave home for my sanity and safety when I was 16 when I figured out she became jealous of me. It made me stronger to work hard to finish high school while working 10 hrs per day, college, and graduate school. We didn’t speak for 20 years. Despite everything, I was there to help care for her when she developed Alzheimer's, and I made sure she looked her best at her funeral. I’m grateful to her for giving me life. I respect her for at least trying to raise her kids after her husband died, she just did a horrible job of it. I know if my mom were alive and in her right mind, she still would have hated me. One day, I pray that I can find that small piece of forgiveness to give her. If you have a toxic parent, take care of yourself, surround yourself with a positive role model if you can, and remember, it is not your fault. The beginning of your story may be hard, but this is your book to write.

I never understood why my mother treated me different and ppl used to tell me she was jealous of me. As I was getting older I paid attention and I noticed that’s what it was. She was jealous of me and my dad relationship, me and my grandmother relationship, me and my kids relationship. The hardest thing was she came in between me and my kids father’s relationships and destroyed those so now I don’t bring anyone around. I love my mother and have never disrespected her no way shape of form even though I wanted to. I just had to let go and love from a distance. Toxic mothers definitely need to be talked about more it’s not just the fathers that’s toxic and hurting us kids 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

The DNA test reveals the he is in fact Kirk’s father. Still Kirk’s mother lies and denies the DNA results and demands another test. Kirk then retakes the test. Test comes back results are the same. She still denies the truth. His mother did nothing, but birth him. He was adopted and raised by someone else.
