I'm currently going through my 5th bout of kidney stones its nice to hear someone who knows how bad the pain is speak about it. I wouldn't wish them on my worse enemy.

It is incredibly comforting to have someone describe exactly what you have been through. Even though it doesn't help when you're going through it, just knowing someone else has been there, and known what you are feeling is comforting in itself. Seriously, I used to be afraid of many things but after experiencing Renal Colic, the only thing in my life that scares me (even more than death or dying alone) is having to go through the Renal Colic pain again. It was the most unbearable pain I have ever felt, and I am extremely glad my parents despise guns, because if we had one in the house, I may have very well ended up shooting myself. The part that really sets the pain it in its own league and makes it 100 times worse then any other pain I have felt is the fact that it is constant, and there is not a THING you can do or a position you can shift to that relieves it in any way at all. I literally have ended up just writhing in agony for hours, looking like a Croc doing a death roll on my bed, in a desperate attempt to find a position that relieved the pain. No luck... That is what makes it the worst pain, the fact that it never gives you an inch, or lets up. I have had pain that was momentarily worse, but it always faded after a few minutes. Renal Colic lasts until you get IV Morphine in my experience, and even then you can still feel twangs of pain and spasms, but you can actually breathe normally again and relax from tensing every single muscle in your body over the last few hours. There was one episode I had that was not nearly as severe that ended on its own, but without fail, the other three episodes lasted from morning to night, and all ended up with me having to be driven to the E.R. around 1 in the morning when I realized it wasn't going to stop. I now have a greater respect for Renal Colic than any other sort of pain, short of cluster headaches which I luckily have yet to experience for myself. It was simply unbelievable how much pain it caused. You can probably tell how much it affected my life by the length of this rant!

I don't know how you managed to last from morning to night before going to the ER. I lasted only about an hour and a half of constant pain before I called an ambulance. Like you said, no position offered any relief. I had a Penthrox inhaler and IM fentanyl in the ambulance and they didn't touch the sides. It wasn't till I got morphine in the ER another hour or so later that I started to feel comfortable.

Ive been dealing with this pain for the past two years , they’ve done all the test you can possibly think of and it just comes out of no where. I think taking out of my gallbladder will stop the pain.

Could not have described it better. I have been suffering from kidney stones for over 30 years now, passed about 70+ naturally, and had at least 10 operations. Laser, ultrasound lithotripsy, manual removal. Most with full, some with local anaesthesia. These days with anything under 10 mm I don’t even bother to go to the doctor’s or the hospital. Hot baths, plenty of liquids, over the counter painkillers. Sometimes it’s a day, sometimes weeks at a time. Became part of my life.

I'm currently in hospital, have been for 4 days now. That's exactly what how I feel and described the pain to the nurse's and Dr's exactly the same way as your guest. I too had visible blood in the urine. Today (day 4) I've been taken off intravenous drip and on oral antibiotics. I can't believe how painful and uncomfortable this is. I only just came on KZbin to see if your channel had any information about what's happening with me and this Podcast came up straight away. So I'm not crazy or being a baby regarding the pain... Thank God for your podcasts Dr. Campbell as I knew nothing about this. You're channel is my favorite now. I've been following you only since early January 2020 for CoVid-19 information but now I follow you for all things medical ⚕️🏥🥇

I had this before. It sucked. Had it one day for a few hours, then had it the next day for a few more hours. Then it went away. No "stones" or anything were passed.

My best description is a combination of back spasms, stomach flu & getting kicked in the balls at the same time.

Dear God this is the WORST pain I’ve ever experienced in my almost 40 years. I don’t even remember the trip to the hospital, I just remember screaming for help. I was delirious. It was nearly 5 hours straight until I got Torodol for the pain.
