Wild Camping in RAIN with my Dog - Why I Had to Move

I love solo camping, but over the summer holidays it can be hard to find a place to go where you have it all to yourself. This camp, between Christmas and New Years, was always going to be a challenging one. The busiest camping season in New Zealand. It took hours and many failed attempts but I finally found a perfect little spot alongside a river. I got the tent up just in time for a snooze in the afternoon rain. With just the mesh inner of my Pomoly Hussar 2 tent and a tarp I could look out at the gorgeous rain and remind myself why it is worth persevering rather than giving up. I was so close to calling it a day and going home, but I am so glad I didn't.
This was just the break away that Indi and I needed.

Really enjoyed it. Very jealous of your tarps. I've a smaller Vango one, which does, but I've been checking to see what larger ones you can get in NZ. Indie is such a lovely, calm dog.

Thanks for another great (and different!) video! The snow is deep here, so watching this is a treat. I wonder about not allowing dogs in national parks in NZ although I think I can understand why. Seems a shame though. Here we can have our dogs with us as long as they are on a lead. Glad Indie could join you for this one 🙂.

Brrr 🥶 sounds chilly where you are. Yes it’s a shame not to be able to take Indi everywhere but then we live in a very unique ecosystem with some very fragile species and it’s good to preserve and protect them, so I do understand the reasons.

Hi from Dallas. Looks like you were barefoot walking around brushing your teeth. Does your area not have grass-burrs or stickers? Or nuisance items like ticks, fleas, etc that could bite or sting your feet in the tall grass?

Winter here in South Western Pennsylvania. Always lookin for your next adventure. They are very inviting. I watch several KZbinrs that provide camping content like yours. As a new camper, seeing how you set your equipment up in various configurations and locations is informing.. I just retired and will begin to camp more than the 5 or 6 times a year that were available in the last 2 years in my previous "productive member of society" role that I was forced to do for 42 years. Thanks for your efforts in recording your adventures. I will be patterning mine similarly.

I think about 15min, or there abouts. We can grow passion fruit in the north of the north island. It’s hit and miss further south, I’ve always failed due to frosts 😭

We are lucky here too, no snakes. There were bees in that grass but I ran the gauntlet none the less.

@@adventureot Oh I didnt know I have only been to Australia and the outback. We were at the Anglo Australian telescope and they warned us about the little black snakes that like to lie on the hot road surface lol

Yes, I recall the same warnings in South Africa. If you are out walking in the early evening or early morning the snakes are often curled up on rocks trying to draw warmth from them.

An incredible video!! I so liked your comments at the end about the coffee ritual in the morning when you’re camping. I always have those. My heart ached with your conversations with Indi at the end and you’re getting ready to pack up. I’m in the States so it’s Winter for us now but come Spring I’m going to miss those conversations with my Lab mix who has crossed over the rainbow bridge. Indi gave me my dog fix tonight. Thank you!
