Neat vid bro, I see things are looking up with your hobby and the infra red camera is neat. Was good to see you catch up with Damon and Austin for a bit of vanping. I have watched their vids on this get together and enjoyed both. Had a giggle about Austin putting his foot in it. Hey all the best.

Great to see you out and enjoying the new hobby, Rick! I still use an old eos 450d for some deep sky shots, alongside dedicated ccd cameras. You might have already found it, but the polar scope illumination intensity should be adjustable in the handset options too. Nice to see a campsite near me which looks promising for astronomy, will have to check it out sometime! Great video :) Cheers, Chris.

Chris H cheers for the tip regarding the illumination of the polar scope, I didn't know that :-). Yes Bracelands seems ideal for stargazing, I'll probably be back there at some point, hopefully when it's warmer :-)

Looks like you had a great time!! I'm so glad you had at least one clear evening. I'd love to see you incorporate some meal prep in your van if you are up for it. We all love watching your cooking at home videos, I can't imagine we wouldn't enjoy watching camp cooking in the van videos as well. Looking forward to seeing some of those smudges on the telescope

Hello Rick, a nice old dslr for astrophotography is a eos550d, it has a video crop mode 640x480 which effectively gives you a 7x magnification ontop of your telescope magnification. Geat for videoing the planets then stacking the seperate frames to get a great image.

Here in Spain is also so cold that the price of fruit and vegetables have been multiplied by 2 or 3 times because of the hard frosts. It's awful and farmers guess it will be the same for about a month. We have to eat frozen and bad quality food. Nice video Rick, as always. You both are wonderful. I really enjoy your channels I like that funny ending on your videos.

LOL Great very entertaining video Rick. I had a telescope once upon a time. A 4.5 inch Newtonian reflector that I brought from Peter Gilbert in Havelock street. I saw a lot of objects with it but without astro photography the images you see with the naked eye are din and misty. You will get some stunning photo's through the telescope I can assure you of that. I lent my scope to a so called friend and when I asked for it back a while later ( a year or two) he denied he ever had it!! ATB Sandy

Interesting chat there with Austin. I thought his pictures were pretty good. By a strange coincidence, I have just bought an infra red LED cluster with the intention of making a night camera. I have a few cameras that I can use. After watching so many of your vids I do feel like I know you and Austin with Sandy and Damon following closely. It's just a shame I am so far away (Norfolk). One of your best vids yet Rick. I've got to get a better telescope because I find my Celestron Powerseeker a right pain in the backside. When I can align it it's great, but more often than not it's a complete waste of time. Saturn blew me away when I first saw it. And Jupiters moons are an awesome sight.

Rick it's not the 'gaseous edge of the milky way' it IS the milky way, which is comprised of billions of stars! It's just that there is so many it looks like a white cloud, but it's actually stars. Pretty much everything you see with the naked eye is within our galaxy..

Cool. I miss my telescope after watching this. Thing is, for me, part of the fun was learning the night sky, and finding where these awesome sights are by looking for them yourself. Your telescope does all that for you, so you will never learn the map of the stars, if you just type in a co ord and it moves there for you. Know what I mean? Anyway, that is one cool as telescope mate, and that infra red camera thing is pretty impressive too..:)
@instrumentenfreak8 жыл бұрын
Hi Rick :-) If you want really sharp images, look up "image stacking". You can have great pictures just with a webcam instead of the eyepiece. Way better than a webcam or a dslr is a "monochrome ccd". Less noise, longer exposure, better sensitivity; even in infrared (very important!), and you are able to use filters (also important). A dslr is a bit easyer/quicker and you can get good images in 10 minutes, even without photoshop. But I never met someone who went back to dslr for this kind of photography :-) I think I know your preferences :D

Hi Rick, Great video as usual, if you want to go to a top campsite try Kelling heath, its a black out site that is used by Astronomers from all over the uk.. Google it and see what you think, another thing to think of is a dew heater, very cheap to get hold of remembering all the good clear night are cold nights, Rick you like your facts so get this one... there is no such thing as light pollution! Light lights the pollutant......Take care you three camperteers......Ellery
