Hi,,, fishing guide from Tasmania,,, sorry to be one of those keyboard experts but,,,,, if you move your left hand forward on the fishing rod and hold it where the reel neck attaches to the rod, (neck goes between the middle finger and ring finger) the rod will be balanced and it will be easier to handle :-) sorry for the mansplaining,,,

Thanks for sharing your adventure with us, So awesome you went and did this regardless of the weather and with the doggo too! I love taking my dog 🐶 out kayaking and this video of yours has me reminiscing a bit on those paddles with my boy and feeling excited for those yet to come which may now have to entail an overnight island stay as well! Keep getting out there and doing what you do, it’s truly inspirational.

If I can offer a suggestion. While holding your fishing rod place the reel seat between your pinky and ring fingers. Takes a little bit to get used to but you will have more leverage and control over the fish. Also, it places your pointer finger in a better spot to grab the line before casting. ***just saw someone offered basically the same advice****

Madison, I highly recommend the Jerven dog bag! I'll post a link below. I have dogs in Norway and we hike in the snow/cold etc and we found out that the bag I mention (especially if you throw in a little micro fibre towel) is AWESOME. Within 5 minutes the dogs - we have a GSP and wirehaird dachs - are very warm with the reflective inside, with waterproof padded seat and easy fitted wrap. I love our dogs so it's lovely to see Kyro out with you - try the bag out if you can get it!!

The proper way to hold a spinning reel/rod it to put the metal piece that connects the foot to the reel body in between your two middle fingers, not holding the rod at the very end. Holding it the way that was explained gives a secure hold, good feel of the rod/line for a biting fish, and a large fish is less likely to yank it out of your hand. Also, if you are right handed, you hold the rod in your right hand and reel with your left and vice versa. Hope this helps

Great video! Your fishing skills are definitely improving, but you need someone to show you how to hold a spinning rod. You must be in really good shape to go camping when it is cold and rainy! Keep these videos coming. I think one of those fish that you couldn't identify was a (mountain) Whitefish. I don't think I could get in or out of a drysuit!

Hi Again Madison. What is the name of that lake? Also, I think Parker's fish may have been a Dolly Varden or bull trout, almost the same thing. That's kinda why I asked what lake you were at. Yes, it was a Dolly as people call them. You can tell by the whiter flesh when it's just about to be cooked and enjoyed. Brook trout flesh is darker. I'm in Williams Lake. You passed through here on the way to Bella Coola. Beautiful part of the province!!!! KEN
