I'm so concerned about losing the ridgeline stored with my tarp, I'm ready to sew one on to my tarp bag. But maybe inside. And add mini-biners to all the rest. I'm starting to get into having all the hardware for each element to store with the item instead of one big hardware dope bag and individual soft goods in separate bags. But what then to do with the bags? I begin to think about having a length of daisy chain webbing hung up. I saw a camp kitchen at last week's PSH hang where all the utensils were hung that way. Zip zip in and out of storage slicker than owl poop off a wet limb.

Not sure why insulated hammocks haven't caught on more. Like Shug says, they're perfect for people that don't want to fiddle with underquilts, but I think they're also perfect for cold weather camping when drafts are more than just uncomfortable.

Can I ask a serious question? (I know, I rarely do) Why do you melt snow for water when there is a stream or lake full of already melted snow (water) nearby? Since snow is mostly air, it takes a lot to get significant amount of water and you have to burn a lot more fuel from your stove to melt it and bring it to boil.
@shugemery3 жыл бұрын
I did mention why. I would have had to backtrack a good way to get to a safe spot to get river water. River running hard..this ice...steep bank. I wanted to melt snow as it is right there.

Are those 3 finger gloves store bought or DIY? Because I’m looking for a warm an durable version of those.
@shugemery3 жыл бұрын
No they are a pair of Minus 33 merino gloves. I cut the 3 tips off.

Shug, Great video. I didn't see mentioned but what layers did you sleep in that allowed you to take the 30 degree built in UQ and the 20 TQ down so low?

Often add my orange down jacket when I get up to pee at 4am or so. That way I am sorta mainly dressed to pop out of the hammock and go grab my food bag.

I don’t think mother would claim that concoction. Lol

Everytime I roll around in my hammock, my under quilt moves on me. I then have to unzip my bugnet and adjust. Is this normal? I am really considering getting a superior hammock so I'm not spending all night adjusting my under quilt.

UQs are tricky to set up correctly. I do have a lot of videos on the subject....kzbin.info/aero/PLahaAdtfX9ZKzSYSBm3mBYSPGHjdyGqsL But the SG hammock solves the problem.

I live in the sub tropics, and have to filter or boil every bit of water.... Just wondering if anyone knows, can you just drink creek water when it's so cold?
@shugemery3 жыл бұрын
I still boil it. Could be a dead animal upstream. One never knows.

@@shugemery Yep, I've seen that one too. However, as I recall it, there is (expired, I hope) a patent, which covers hammocks like this one, and which has kept insulated hammocks from being sold commercially.
